1.
Thanks! Having a good photographer take it makes a massive difference though.
Yes, I've noticed that someone's mate with a mobile phone doesn't really crack it.
 2.
Bollocks!!!
Great pic.
 3. I like this band a lot - got introduced to them by Christmas gift from my son.
 4.
It doesn't matter where you stand. However you should always be facing forward looking at the audience. They are the reason why you are on stage in the first place.
Yes, this. However, also, in my case, being right handed and assuming a right handed drummer, stage left if I am playing bass guitar, but stage right if I am playing upright bass.
 5.
This thread has had me raking through my stash of plectrums. I've been quite taken with my fatter picks, but i've only got to about 1.3mm. Has anyone tried a really FAT pick? Like 2 or 3mm?
There's been several of us stating in this thread that we use 3mm Big Stubbies.
 6. For me the marker would devalue the bass. In fact I just wouldn't buy it.
 7.
I've started playing on my fretted bass, but with my eyes closed and in the dark, driven by some insane idea that this might be lay some preparation for playing unlined fretless? What think ye of such science?
What everyone else said plus play it as you normally would. Don't set out to play fretless bass, just play bass like you usually would and listen carefully and adjust appropriately.
 8.
For guitar, maybe?
For bass guitar too, maybe? I had thought it was a matter of the physics of the recovery times of flexible materials. But as I'm not a physicist, I'll keep out of it.
 9.
No controversy intended! I just can't play faster with a thicker pick, is all.
Yes, I realise that but I meant that I thought it was common knowledge to associate thin picks with rhythm/chordal strumming and thicker picks with soloing and fast jazz licks/shredding ... and having a bit of a Google round t'interweb, it does indeed appear so.
 10.
Believe me, I am desperately resisting taking it out of the case now.
Get the Decade out instead.
 11.
I beg to differ. I can play much faster (when necessary) with a flexible Herco .50 than with even a .73 pick, an experiment I conducted only yesterday with a Dunlop Tortie, which doesn't flex as much. But I suppose it's what you're used to.
Well, I don't deny your experience but I thought I was merely saying a standard and uncontroversial thing.
 12.
Some very thick picks here! I'm wondering just how hard you people dig in!!
It's not always about digging in. Attack is different with a harder pick and the recovery time of the pick is faster so you can, if needs be, play faster with a thicker pick.
 13.
Photobucket link: http://s1342.photobu...p?sort=3&page=1
I cant get that link to work.
 14.
Hey guys I bought some Johnny Cash and Buddy Holly piano vocal and guitar books and I'm trying to convert the piano bass to electric bass as I can't find any specific bass books. I'm noticing a lot of double stops, chords and very low b , c and g on ledger lines below the bottom line. Is it best to just play just the lower note of the stops and chords and how do you deal with the very low notes. Easy on a 5 string but if you've got a four, play them as low as you can on the E string and move everything else up onto the D and G strings within say the first 7 frets? I'm trying to keep the notes there as I guess that's where they would have been played on an upright? Read somewhere that Larry Graham I think started playing bass to piano bass? Any advice about converting the lines to TAB appreciated. Thanks.
If I had the piano left hand notation, I would take good notice of it but I wouldn't necessarily try to play it exactly - indeed, as you've noted that's not always possible anyway. I'd also listen to any recordings for the actual bassist. There can be plenty to be learned for a bassist studying piano left hand. I recommend Ray Charles left hand.
 15. I've never had a problem like this when hanging basses and music shops do it all over the world. However, sometimes the material of the hanger interacts with nitro finishes leaving a mark. That's a different problem.
 16.
... some notes that are 2 frets and/or 2 strings apart ...
I would use 124 (Simandl) for that especially on the lower frets. OFPF is just going to cause damage. But anyway needing to move your wrist or hand is normal.
 17.
You're not the first to wonder that. It's a bit like having a Cheryl Cole signature range of hair care products including a beard trimmer.
Not really like that, a beard trimmer can have several uses.
 18. No pictures for several of the colours including BMM.
