Bought a pre-amp from Dave - neat, tidy, well-packed and straightforward. Recommended.
Interesting - I've tried all of the above except the GHS. I like the TIs and Pyramids the best so far.
I like the TIs and the Pyramids but it also depends on the bass and on the music/band. I used to have an American Deluxe Precision and I always preferred the TIs on that but on my American Vintage 62 I much prefer La Bella 760FS. The Pyramids work well on the Decade but the Lakland/GHS strings win I think.
The lakland flats are my favourites on the Decade as well - just ordered some short scale GHS flats to put on the new Shorty decade....excited:)
I started with Lakland flats, then Pyramid Golds, then La Bella760N, then TI Jazz flats, now back to the Laklands (actually GHS Precisions). They are definitely the best.

Just put some purple silked GHS flats on my Decade then had to put the sale thread on hold.
You make a fair point. In hindsight I can see the flaw in my logic on that post. I would assert however that I believe that I do have a good grasp of the thought process behind Fender's (very clever) marketing strategy...so strong that they have in fact a complete stranglehold on the current bass guitar market. It's quite a turn around. I remember back in the day when nobody wanted Fender basses, they were unloved and they were "uncool". I actually took a lengthy sabbatical from playing for a number of years (I missed the 90's) - when I did find my way back into it I remember how surprised I was when visiting music shops to find nothing but Fenders and Fender variants. There is an ongoing powerful placebo at work that has been carefully encouraged by what is essentially a VERY powerful business organisation with an extremely powerful marketing strategy....... Everyone is playing Fenders...because everyone is playing Fenders. Some may laugh - but the reality is it's a mild form of brain washing. Don't misunderstand me, I actually like a good Fender (poor QC..but there are good ones out there)...but I refuse to be a sheep.
There's a lot of people who refuse to be sheep.
Found on Google - Who's this? https://www.dropbox....n0/coronado.jpg
Definitely 1960s model.
... here where most people appear to change their strings fairly quickly.
Some of us rarely change strings, several years.

Fretless dalliance has ruined everything
EssentialTension replied to MarkW's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I'm sorely tempted Fionn! Just another quick question: where are people getting six string flats from? The only couple of companies I've found so far are charging silly money
When you keep the flats on for years the cost works out rather cheap. -
Lesbian scene involving bass guitar.... Ace.
EssentialTension replied to the boy's topic in General Discussion
So, where are the lesbians? -
The norm is buyer pays then seller delivers. If the seller fails to deliver for whatever reason then the money gets paid back. That's right and proper.

Country music recommended listening?
... I also agree with those who say lol to the past - Hank Williams wrote some absolute classics.
'I said to Hank Williams: how lonely does it get? Hank Williams hasn't answered yet But I hear him coughing all night long A hundred floors above me In the Tower of Song' (Leonard Cohen, 'Tower of Song') -
Ah right. Apologies for my complete cluelessness. I'm looking for a thinner string than my current 0.45 gauge Fender roundwounds, but with greater tension. Me no likey da buzzy.
If you've got buzzing then that is most likely caused by some combination of neck relief and bridge height. If you go to lighter gauge strings its more likely that you will increase the buzz rather than reduce it.
-
Skej, did you have heavier strings and then change down? What differences have you noticed with lighter strings?
A lower gauge in the same make of strings will have lower tension - so the string is likely to feel softer, floppier, under the fingers or pick. You may need to loosen the truss rod to even up the tension on the neck and avoid buzzing on the frets. If you are changing make or style of string then the lower gauge lower tension rule no longer necessarily applies.

Michael Kelly Dragonfly fretted 4-string 34" electro-acoustic bass with hard case and also soft case and at present wearing Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Flats. I'm looking for cash and not a trade as I already have plans. I'd much prefer a collection from Brighton or a meet somewhere in the south-east in association with the M25 and its excellent service areas. However a courier at the buyers expense might be arranged.

Signature Basses That Don't Exist...But Should
EssentialTension replied to Freddy Le Cragg's topic in General Discussion
There are so many signature basses out there, what happens when someone playing a signature bass they like becomes a famous player, does Fender just put a new sticker on the same spec bass ?
Yes. Here is the Jimmy Page Les Paul - although Gibson not Fender. -
Signature Basses That Don't Exist...But Should
EssentialTension replied to Freddy Le Cragg's topic in General Discussion
Surely one signature bass that should exist would have to be a Lakland Geezer Butler

Good call!

I'll second this - especially if it were to look anywhere near as cool as Iommi's signature SG.
