A sure sign of getting older for me is that 99% of signature models released are made for people I've never heard of.
That's usually my experience but I knew this one: Mars Volta, Pink, Moby and her father was Kim Gardner of The Birds, The Creation, and Ashton, Gardner & Dyke etc.
I thought she just used a fender copy of her dads 62 precision ?
I thought she had her dad's actual Precision(s).
Any advice for swapping between basses / string gauges. I run a P with flats and J with rounds (predictable I know) and feel comfy on either one, but always struggle swapping from one to the other between days - never mind between songs! They are similar gauges and both basses are set up to be as close to each other as possible, but when I swap I'm pretty sh*t until I get used to the change. Any advice from nutters that happily swap between different basses during a gig appreciated!
I swap a lot (including upright and bass guitar of two different sizes). I've never found a problem just a few seconds for the relevant muscle memory to set in.
By the way, how does the balance feel? I tried a Gibson Midtown the other day. Great playability and sound, but hte neck felt a bit heavy even if it didn't dive. I guess this easily becomes an issue on hollowbodies.
The Midtown is 34" scale so, compared to the Coronado at 30" scale, it is more likely to be neck heavy. The Coronado is surprisingly heavy for a hollow body - the centre block must be quite substantial - but I didn't play it on a strap.

Upright = nothing Takamine B10 = Boss Tuner Precision Bass = Boss Tuner + Tech21 VTBass BassVI = Boss Tuner + Boss Tremolo + Boss Fender Reverb '63 The only other pedal I've used with any regularity is the Electro-Harmonix Black Finger Compressor but don't have one at the moment.
Bobbins = a bit crap
Ah, sorry, I must keep up more with the youth lingo.

That's great.
I've just got the bobbins soft case it came with from Wunjo. There's a pic on TB of a chap with his Coronado in a Jack Casady, but the ones I've seen online have an Epi logo, and that don't seem right in my head!
I had in mind a spray can of matt black for the Epiphone logo. ... and what is 'bobbins soft case'?
I'm getting bad gas for one of the Coronados or maybe a Starcaster - but I really don't know how I'd get on with the short scale. I'm happy with whatever nut width but have doubts about getting to grips with the scale length
I never find that a problem. Or, at least, no more problem than moving from upright to bass guitar or from 1.75" P nut to 1.5" J nut. A few minutes to get the muscle memory lined up usually does the trick. Or think of it as a 34" scale tuned down a full tone but with a capo at fret two - that's a 30.33" scale.
I know! I came home from the shop annoyed that they didn't have a case for the Coronado. Much to my surprise it fitted perfectly in this gig bag. It doesn't fit the Fender gig bag in which my P Bass came in, so it won't fit in any electric bass gig bag. And it's not pink. It's beige and black.
OK, I'm going to have to sell something.
I've been using this gig bag from Thomann. Well padded and it fits like a glove. http://www.thomann.d....html?AR=243807
Deceptive, because I would have guessed that didn't fit at all. Is that slightly pink and black or does my screen need adjusting?
Once you get the crap rounds off, it's a completly different beast
I knew that really. Have you got a case? Soft or hard? Apparently Jack Casady case fits but £99

I had a little go on one unplugged in GAK this afternoon. Very nice, but, of course, it had roundwound strings which was bit of a passion killer for me. Still .... we'll see.

2014 easier than 1951 to play Bass?
EssentialTension replied to Mr Fretbuzz's topic in General Discussion
Whenever this topic comes up I am reminded of the story of some Beatles - McCartney and Harrison I think - getting a bus across Liverpool because they'd heard of someone who knew how to play a B7 chord and they had his address. -
Fender Tony Franklin Precision Bass
EssentialTension replied to franzbassist's topic in Bass Guitars
Excellent Gareth. The only bass I've ever totally regretted selling is the Tony Franklin Fretless. So let that be a warning to you. By the way, how did the white nylons turn out? -
Dunlop Stubby 3mm
Yes, that's the one - that's 3mm guys - but I very rarely use one.
Fender Flats 45-105 on the Jazz Lakland flats (light) to go on the P (not yet on, going to get it set up at the same time)
I don't see why the Lakland flats won't be great on the Precision but they will likely feel softer than the Fenders. Whether you like that is a matter of personal choice. There are plenty of people playing TI Jazz Flats on a P bass and they are much softer in feel than either the Fenders or the Laklands (which are made by GHS by the way).
Do you guys use different gauges for Jazz and Precision basses ? I have a Jazz with 45-105 flats on and just about to put a light set of flats on my Precision. For some reason I have a bad feeling. The Precision feels like a much more solid bass that would benefit from chunkier strings? Or would the lighter gauge strings make the precision feel less workman like ? Or am I talking utter gash
Which make of strings? Gauge means nothing on its own - a 100 Chrome is nothing like a 100 Thomastik, whatever bass it is on.
Do you have any sound examples?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2_yifkUgss http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg9EKOplAng
And I think you're right about the 32" strings. The 30" ones are almost too short for this bass because of the tail piece.
I guess then that other flatwounds that will probably fit then are either the Pyramid Gold Beatle Bass or La Bella Beatle Bass.
-
I thought about it, but was scared to spend that 50 quid in case it wouldn't work. I might give it a try then. Thanks!
I'm seriously thinking about getting a black Coronado and if so I'll probably try the 32" Thomastiks so I'll let you know.
-
I've been using Thomastik Jazz Flats on my P-Bass and I love their feel, sound and versatility. Unfortunately they don't make a 30 inch short scale version of them, so I put on some Status Flats on the Coronado. They work really well for the kinda sound I'm going for with this bass, so I'm very pleased.
OK, thanks. Would the 32" Thomastiks not fit well enough with this kind of tailpiece? I've used them on other 30" scale semi-acoustics.

Which flats have you put on it?
