You may LOVE the thunk sound, but that is all you'll have and you'll be stuck with it.
No, wrong, because there is something called EQ and also you can move your plucking hand from end of neck to pickup to close to bridge for a wide range of different sounds. Anyway, you call it 'thunk' but I call it 'bass'.
If strings are full of gunk, then your limits are what the string can produce. Now you may not want to..and that is fine... but you can't clean that sound up...it is what it is.
My flats are clean and not full of gunk at all.
 2. I can speak for the whole of Basschat when I say "yes". Next topic please.
 3.
... Unless you insulate the room, there is no way to stop bass frequencies travelling next door ...
I think this is about right but it's also the case that older houses are better at insulation of sound. My house is 1890 build and never hear neighbours.

 5.
PM's style was laid down in the 50's listening to rock and roll. There was only a brief crossover between The Beatles recording their major creative works and JJ entering his creative period, so that introduction seems like wishful thinking on McCartney's part.
I think you underestimate the opportunity for Jamerson to influence Macca. The crossover, after all, is most of the 1960s. That seems like plenty long enough. Although I agree that 50s RnR was a big influence e.g. bass from Chuck Berry's Talking About You.
Bass players who are singers, inventive song writers and piano players will usually have a much better melodic sense than plain old bass players. If you want to emulate McCartney get a piano.
Agreed.
 6.
On the CD that comes with the "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" book, McCartney admits that Jamerson was an early influence on him. AFAIK, Jamerson seldom played above the fifth fret, and used open strings a lot, which he brought with him from his double bass playing days. This may have something to do with McCartney's style of playing.
Staying in one position also helps a little if you've got to sing as well.
 7.
Another belter of a Basschat thread. Just read through the remaining 5 pages I missed since the other day. I'll never get that time back.
As long as you're not offended it will be ok.
 8. It makes no sense, don't listen to them. If you need to change anything then get a smaller amp and a smaller cab.
 9.
I'm sorry but I find little offence in your position
Damn ...
 10.
It seems that you did, because I said nothing the intention behind your post, only it's likely interprepation. If you brand a piece of music as 'dire' then you're implying that anyone who happens to like and enjoy that music has dire taste in music, which if not offensive is certainly a tad on the rude side.
But actually it's OK to offend people, I'm strongly in favour of offending people. It's more than OK to offend, it's essential for people to be offended sometimes. Your freedom of expression is my freedom to be offended and my freedom to say so. And vice versa. Long live offence.
 11.
made some adjustments for intonation and it seems ok
I'd say you're happy then, at least I would be.
 12.
I will be biding my time from now until I get the oppotunity to use that gag on someone else . In the meantime , I've got a coat you can borrow to put over your head to hide the shame ...
I just used it now on someone else, it worked well.
 13.
... certainly offensive to accuse people of having 'dire' taste in music.
But what if some people do have dire taste in music and I am offended by that? What shall we do then?
 14.
Species is a singular and a plural.
That's correct and maybe I could or even should have read it that way. Dinosaurs however is still not a species.
 15.
Cheers for your replies, it does play nice no fret buzz etc, so do you think I would still need to tweek the truss rod
With higher tension strings you would expect no fretbuzz as the neck will be more bowed. Higher action is fine though especially with hollow body. How is the intonation?
 16. You shouldn't need to worry about neck damage but you may need to tweak the truss rod, that's what it's there for, and do a setup.
 17. Oh no, Teasie-Weasie-Cheazie-Weazie. Definite conspiracy.
 18.
Thought you might like a pickled onion with that cheese...
You're surely not suggesting Pastorius could be cheezie-weazie are you?
 19.
Note the spelling variations: Teasie-Weasie / Teazie Weazie. Bit like the Pastorious / Pistorious thing. Two leading 'stylists', both with commonly mispelt names. Bizarre coincidence or dark conspiracy? You decide.
I've never seen them in the same room at the same time.
 20.
Mr Teazie Weazie was one of the great hair stylists but you don't get mass fanboi attacks when his name comes up.
Ah yes, the great Raimondo Bessone: He taught Vidal Sassoon everything he knew.
 21.
I'm always amused when dinosaurs are used in a disparaging manner. Remind me how long they were the dominant species on this planet compared with our own blink of an eye? Or perhaps I'm mistaken and you really meant that such classic rock will rule the roost for millions of years?
Dinosaurs is not a species.
 22.
Advice? Never trust a fart and never waste an erection!! Happy Birthday mate!
Isn't that forty not fifty.
