1.
Oft quoted:- Chicks don't dance to the lead guitar.....
Neither does anyone else if they've got any sense of rhythm.
 2. It is very good but it always left me sounding like me and not like Bernard.
 3.
Double basses look cooler than all guitars and the chicks love it, "my that's a big one!" At my first gig just with the Stagg, the proper Gedo 3/4 should make for a guaranteed encounter with a hot curvy burlesque girl
A double bass is a hot curvy burlesque girl.
 4.
Go to the D'Addario website. Download the tension guide. Find out what tension a 45-105 set usually has. I believe you will find it is @ 40 to 45 pounds (sorry, don't have the kilos equivalent) per string. Then cross reference the notes you want to tune down to and follow the pitch line across to where a string has the same or similar tension, then across the chart the other way to find out what gauge that is. Then you will know what gauges of strings to purchase that have similar tension for DGCF as does a conventional 45-105 set for EADG. You can also then go one gauge heavier if you want even heavier tension. I surmise that a 50 will do for the string you want to tune to F, but you may have to go up to @ 115 to get good tension without getting floppy on the string tuned to low D, and in the middle probably 65 for the string tuned to C, and either 85 or 90 for the string tuned to G.
That's all very well as long as you are sticking to D'Addarios of a particular kind - perhaops that's what you mean. But the tensions won't apply to Fender or other strings even if they are the same gauge.
 5. I recall reading somewhere that Jones was on £50,000 per week when they are touring. But that was years ago and probably not accurate anyway.
 6. What problem? No problem. All electric basses had flatwounds originally, there were no roundwounds.
 7. It's in the Stuart Clayton book Funk and Disco Grooves for Bass. http://www.basslinepublishing.com/nile-rodgers-and-bernard-edwards-funk-and-disco-grooves.html
 8.
now re listed for a mere £99:99p + £28 postage, if it plays like poo it might make a reasonable paddle for a canoe.
That's good because the postage was £48 last time.
 9.
I only practise while watching the BBC Porn Channel.
Do you find that helps your right hand technique?
 10.
... What do people do when they feel too burned out to practice? The other problem is I can never 'fully switch off' even now I feel guilty about not practicing when I should be, how does everyone else switch off?
It's a hobby, I never practise. I do rehearse with my band and I will have learned anything I needed to learn in advance for that. Perhaps you call that practice. If it made me feel guilty I wouldn't do it. I would have a different attitude if I was or was hoping to be a professional musician.
 11. You'll have to try them, there's no substitute for it. I haven't used them for a while but those Fender stainless flats used to be definitely tense.
 12. I really like Ed Friedland's deadpan reviews.
 13. Never look at plucking hand. Most likely to look at fretting hand when moving position but, once in position, different fingers do different intervals, so no real need to be looking then.
 14.
... so to sum up then, everyone should just f*** o** Sounds like a plan.
Thanks for clarifying what I really meant.
 15.
1/ The band is something of a money pit, and I'm bearing the brunt of it.
BTW, the one and only time this might be thought reasonably to be true is if, and only if, you are the bandleader and musical director. It's your band so you pay but in return everbody else does as they are told and they get paid.
 16.
1/ The band is something of a money pit, and I'm bearing the brunt of it ...
Are you a bassist or a manager? Either way this has to stop and all costs are to be paid out of earnings or are to be shared equally. If anyone doesn't like it they can f*** o**.
2/ ... I'm quite laid-back ... I'm generally belittled ...
Sorry, but I am going to belittle you again. Are you a bassist or a mouse? Either way this has to stop and all band members need to respect what other members of the band do for the band. If anyone doesn't like it they can f*** o**.
3/ ... Goes against every fibre of my being ...
It looks to me as though you are the one who doesn't like it and therefore you should be the one who f**** o**.
 17.
I don't know what's up with you guys. I reckon it will look good in my collection next to my $2,500 Kay.
Well, it sounds funkier than a Precision bass but we never got to hear it. Very disappointing.
 18.
Just to go back to the earlier digression, the double bass tailpieces with variable or compensated length aren't about adjusting either the pitch of the playing part of the string or it's compliance. The afterlengths behind the tailpiece on a double bass vibrate a surprising amount when playing, and their tuning affects the sound of the bass, especially with the bow. On my own double bass, I had a terrible wolf-tone on one note, which was almost entirely tamed when I added a small weight on the A string afterlength, tuning it so that the afterlength resonated at the pitch of the dodgy note when bowed. I don't pretend to understand these interactions in great depth, but I'd guess that this acted to absorb some energy at that frequency to even out the response of the bass.
Ok, that's starting to make sense.
 19.
Sorry about that. Let's get back to bass. Since flatwound strings seem to offer the longest tone consistency are there any brands in this area that sit way above the rest? Also, which would be best flatwound replacements on an electro-acoustic bass?
Just like with roundwounds there is wide variety in flatwounds and wide variety in what people like. There's no substitute for trying them out - but can be expensive. I have two electro-acoustics - one with Thomastik Jazz Flats and one with Rotosound Trubass Black Nylons - both of which work fine for me. I've also used La Bella Deep Talkin' Black Nylons on both basses.
 20.
*moronic
Ha ha !!
 21.
I don't see the problem. It's obviously a Fender. You can tell by the iconic headstock shape.
Surely you meant 'ironic'?
 22. That's quite close to me, I could pop along and check it out if anyone was worried it might not be legit. The serial number looks alright.
 23. The programme was very good and Wilko was very good. Highly recommended.
 24.
Dusting has never been simpler
Is that because now you can afford a cleaner?
