Gauge on its own tells very little. But if you're meaning the same make/model of strings in each case then the heavier gauge will have more tension and the action will perhaps be a little higher with no truss rod tweak. Bear in mind that, especially on acoustic instruments, higher action might be associated with more volume and improved tonal performance.

[/quote] That sounds correct. For example: a 30" version of a MusicMan can be approximated by tuning your 34" to DGCA and putting a capo at fret two. That is in effect a 30.3" scale length. But the pickup stays in the same place.

I was born 1952 and so a teenager through the 60s and 18 years old in 1970. I always reckoned that 1945 was a better year to be born because then I would really have been old enough to enjoy the 60s completely. However, you get what you get.
