1.
Yes but how many of you know what the tertiary dominant chord is in the key of Bb?
I figure it would be C#7 but I fail to see how it's of any relevance to what's being discussed.
 2.
All excellent stuff guys. That's more money for me to spend on Amazon...
And a little more tax avoidance by them.
 3. I lost track of what was being advertised but I must listen to some Shadows later.
 4. 'Semi-pro' is very often a euphemism for 'can't make a living out of it'.
 5. £200 in good condition is probably about right. Sometimes people confuse Squier in silver face script (not a Silver Series) with the actual Silver Series which has a transfer saying so:
 6.
... Ultimately a bass either sounds good or it doesn't and there isn't a "right" and "wrong" in this.
Yes.
 7.
Nirvana tribute band??
Very good.
 8.
So is there an actual justification for putting it the Fender way round (bass side further from the bridge), or is it just that it was done that way originally and most people aren't bothered enough by it for it to be worth changing?
Other things, like pick or fingers, playing by neck or by bridge, kind of strings, age of strings, EQ, etc., all make more difference than an inch in pickup position.
 9.
Oddly enough I know someone who took a Warwick Streamer Stage I and had the P+J pup routes filled and then just fitted the P in the 'wrong way around' (i.e. as per Leo)... and this guy is a bit of a Warwick fan!
... with a good ear?
 10.
... a bunch of curts ...
That really should go in the 'band names ... the hardest mission ever' thread.
 11.
Yep. Leo Fender didn't know what he was doing. I'm away to throw my Precisions in the bucket. Goodness knows why anyone would want to play one.
I'll have them if you don't want them because my Precision sounds fine.
 12. Some people are funny about 'other bands' but still a useless reply. You don't want to be in that band anyway.
 13.
Oh god, tell me about it! Here's me in Wales at 18 with my guitar, afghan, self embroidered bell-bottoms and a Flying Teapot-carrying friend The photo was augmented with paint by a fellow sixth form art student. We listened to a lot of Gong and consumed a goodly number of local flora of the genus Psilocybe semilanceata
Your mate hasn't even got flares. Useless.
 14.
... I was 3 when this was taken..
I was 45 when it was taken but it still feels like my lost youth.
 15.
I know it's been said before - but if you want a really great Fender bass, buy a Lakland.
I've got a fantastic Lakland but also Lakland have had a lot of criticism on BC recently for poor quality control.
 16. I remember seeing Kevin Ayers and the Whole World in about 1970. Kevin Ayers - guitar Mike Oldfield - bass David Bedford - keyboards Lol Coxhill - saxes ... and can't recall the drummer but might have been Robert Wyatt. But I was listening to some of that stuff only last week for the first time in nearly 40 years.
 17.
It's because of the association of the pick with guitar players and fingers with the double bass.
... but most of the guitarists I've played with use fingers and not a pick.
 18. I'd never expect a Fender (or any other bass) to be set up to my liking in the shop - wrong strings for a start - but I've never had a problem with a Fender once I set it up. Other people will have had a completely different experience and tell you how bad they are. The G&L I had was also excellent but they are quite rare in UK shops.
 19. So some musicians decide to play some gigs, I can't see why it riles some people so much. If you don't like it then don't go.
 20.
How do you know it's a guy? In this situation 'Their' is correct
I was not intending to correct your usage, which I took to have a clear meaning. I understood 'their', being plural in form, to refer to the rest of the band and that you were making a joke about the rest of the band also having a preferred key. Hence my rubbish joke about correcting it to 'his' preferred key. I did sexistly assume it was a male so, in this case, 'his or her' would be correct usage and 'their' is incorrect through ambiguity.
 21.
To top it off you are going to tell us they have a keys player and all the songs are in C which is what he has the gadget set to anyway? My dad had a mate at school whos mom hated making sandwiches so used to make them all at the start of the month then freeze them (fair enough not for me but ok) she used to label everyones sandwich and the date they were for with little labels which took hours, but they were all made on the same day so the date was pointless and even better they were all cheese and tomato!
I guess that's the origin of best before dates and use by dates.
 22.
And what's [s]their[/s] his favoured key?
Corrected it for you.
