1.
I've just realised the d'addario chromes I've bought are long scale, rather than medium will they fit onto my p bass, or should I send them back? EDIT: just did some reading on talk bass and apparently when d'addario say 'long scale' they mean 34"-36" so I should be fine
Through the bridge, a standard 34" P bass needs long scale Chromes in my experience. If you string through the body it might be different.
 2.
... Lennon ... asked about what the Beatles thought about their music.....'we don't analyze it, its not worth it'.
Despite which the Beatles often knew exactly where they were getting ideas from and Lennon himself was later able to apply a little analysis to the Electric Light Orchestra's 'Showdown': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzYDbtQM7Do
 3. Or here, in the USA: http://www.bassstringsonline.com/La-Bella-Black-Nylon-Tape-Wound--4-String-Set--NEW-GAUGES_p_250.html
 4. The 750N light gauge La Bella black nylons are new and aren't yet readily available in Europe. If you email La Bella they may sell you some direct.
 5.
Slightly OT, but a guy I used to work with was once booked into a Hotel in the States in the name of Terver Contninong. His real name is Trevor Cunningham.
Does he have a regional accent that meant the Yanks needed subtitles?
 6.
my only advice on choosing band names is never choose anything with any doubt over how it's spelled, as you'll soon get sick of spelling it to people.
Yes. I'm in a band called Barabajagal and we have been mis-spelled many ways. Perhaps the most feeble effort was Brabber Jack.
 7. If I was ever in any doubt, I'd take the Precision.
 8. It seems to me to be the regular claim of 'I don't like the Beatles and so they can't possibly have been of any influence or importance' that has its knickers in a twist.
 9.
Revolution in the Head? ...
That's an excellent book.
 10.
Also I'm subscribed to this (and many other) topic onBassChat but I NEVER receive email notifications of responses. Any ideas why?
Click on your name at the top right of the page. Go to My Settings. Then Notification Options on the left hand side. Set it how you want it.
 11.
... They were a staple favourite among many people when I was a teenager, and for precisely that reason I made a conscious effort to buck the trend and ignore them - I mean, that's what teenagers do, right?
What is it that you're saying teenagers do or did? Did they have the Beatles as a staple favourite? Or did they buck the trend? Or was it a mixture of the two?
 12.
Mongolian actually, Anda Union, on tour at the moment and absolutely stunning. Steve
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zzSVaX1Lmg
 13.
Fender American Vintage series. Either '57ri or 62ri actually Ive not heard a bad word about the pino signature P
I've played a couple of Palladino sigs and they are very nice but the bad word is a number and it's the price. You can pickup a used 62RI for probably less than half the usual new price. As long as you're happy with the 1.75" nut, then it's the one.
 14.
... I'd certainly rather the influences of some great bands came through because kids still listened to them, rather than them being lost forever and One Direction being the poster boys for aspiring 'musicians'.
Like many others I am sure, my aspiring musician son and his aspiring musician friends listen to (and play) all sorts of new and old music but not One Direction.
 15.
... maybe JS Bach should get credit for 'most influential' ...
That can't be true because some people don't like him.
 16.
Yeh mate I do understand your point, always read my comments in the tone of a stoned news reader lol But I just feel for the younger guys, these kids were not borne into a golden age of music, in most cases they were borne into an age where music is considered as disposable & throw away. They have a different approach to music, information & the world. Our generation have to stop judging these kids with our set of rules because they are not their rules. that's why we have now got a generation gap far wider than we had with our parents.
In my experience, the so-called generation gap is much much smaller now between myself (61) and my son (19) and his friends than it ever was between myself and my father (with a similar age gap).
 17.
Soapy tit w***.
I think you may have the wrong website.
 18.
I'm afraid it will take a lot more than TS Eliot to convince me that LZ were good
Yes, he was obviously a bit cr@p too.
 19.
No, I didn't
Then either you haven't listened properly or you don't understand Eliot - or both - but it really doesnt matter.
 20.
LZ were immature, mature, and bad all at once?
Yes, but you missed out 'good'.
 21.
That doesn't work - listening to previously unexplored genres of music soon leads to the whole "I've heard this all before" syndrome.
Which unexplored genres?
 22.
Lets not forget that a large part of led zeppelin's output was shamelessly "borrowed" from elsewhere in the first place!
'Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different.' (T.S. Eliot)
 23.
Who's being hysterical?
Probably that will be the Screaming Headless Torsos.
 24. If she's got a bass teacher, which presumably she has at her school, then the teacher could (and should) be checking out the bass in the hands of the student and then give hands-on advice.
