  1. That's one of my favourite albums. Chris White's basslines are lovely.
  2. Did you really have to bring up the subject of slapping?
  3. Yes, didn't he say 'just through the fader'?
  4. I never realised Gary Glitter was in the Shangri-Las!!!!!!!!!!
  5. There has to be a subjective element to this. Because I do not experience Labella Deep Talkins as 'extremely high tension' (unless you're talking about the Jamerson set) and I would describe D'Addario Chromes as quite bright rather than 'dull thuds'. YMMV, of course.
  6. IIRC ... the first Dudepit bass was a Sherwood Green Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn Jazz Bass with Lindy Fralin pickups. The second was an Olympic White Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub Precision Bass with a Hammon Dark Star pickup. Someone on here had one 'cos I rememebr playing it at a bass bash. The third, which fell through as a Dudepit bass, cos the Dudepit fell through too, became the standard model Lakland Skyline Decade in Translucent Burgundy with Chisonic pickups. There was also an earlier Fender 'Dudepit' Bass - can't remember if it was a P or a J - in Surf Green or similar.
  7. In his own words, 'I am the click!'.

  10. I used half a business card from from a local restaurant. Cost was zero. I didn't even pay for a meal. Worked perfectly.
  11. I was in a flamenco club in Sevilla. A British visitor (no relation) was clapping along to the show. He was quietly asked to cease & desist.
  12. You can talk but there may be consequnces, such as you looking like a tw@t.
  13. I too thought I knew only three of them but then I realised I knew who John Taylor was is.
  14. ... nor #1 in Los Angeles.
  15. Early Stingrays came factory-fitted with flats, as did all Fender basses until the mid/late 1970s. And not everyone wants a bright sounding barking bass.
  16. My son, when he was playing guitar in a 'gypsy dub' eleven-piece, was using heavy gauge flatwounds on an Epiphone Casino and on a Fender Thinline Jaguar - either Rotosound Top Tapes (cheap) or Thomastiks or Pyramid Golds (both expensive). But he was not bending notes and was more doing rhythm skanking and clean melody lines. He did have a very thick warm tone. I've also played with slide guitarists using flatwounds for a smoother sound.
  17. That was a good moment amongst many. I liked Billy Preston playing electric piano with his left hand while reading the paper with his right hand.
