1.
I think "Basschat Recommended" rather than "Basschat approved" but I definitely like the concept.
Bad idea, bad concept. I've had regular excellent service from dealers slagged off on Basschat. And I've had very poor service from dealers glorified as top customer service on Basschat. Basschat approved (or not approved) would tell me nothing.
 2. This one might come in handy too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8qFpcsg-0A
 3.
Interesting bass, E to E tuning, E, A, D, G, C.......E? knowing nothing about 6 strings.....normally that top E would be F?
E-A-D-G-B-E its regular tuning is one octave below 'normal' guitar, same as normal bass plus B-E
 4.
What are they selling for?
Apparently £600, if you read the thread.
 5.
Find a bass you like and forget names and image.
Yes, I did exactly that and it's a Fender.
 6.
Shall we lock this one too?
I hope so.
 7.
GAK?
I've been using GAK for eleven years and in my experience GAK gives excellent service.
 8. It happens the other way around sometimes: Punter: Hello, I'm a drummer. Me: Hi, how you doing? Punter: My friend's a bassist. Me: Oh yeah, that's good. Punter: He's a proper bassist. Me: How do you mean? Punter: He's got a five-string and everything. Me: Er...ok
 9.
You see, Lynyrd Skynyrd haven't been a band for a while now ...
Not many of the original line-up but didn't they have an album out earlier this year? Ooops, beaten to it.
 10.
Creationists like to use the use of the word Theory to claim that Evolution is just a theory, not a fact. But they are wrong, they're just cherry picking the bits that help their cause. ...
Well, according to the definitions you provide, and quite rightly so, Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection is exactly a theory in your sense number 1: 'a coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena: Einstein's theory of relativity'. Other examples would be Newton's theory of gravity, quantum theory etc. etc. etc. Creationists really have nothing to do with it (and I suggest you pay them little attention) but best not to fall into their game and also be a cherry-picker. The key phrase in the definition is 'commonly regarded as correct'. Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection is a theory and not a fact. BTW, in avoidance of any confusion, I am an atheist.
 11. Theory as opposed to practice.
 12. I've never been able to hear a difference between maple and rosewood fretboards but if there is any difference I can't believe it's not over-ridden by whether you play with a pick or with fingers, do you play by the neck or by the bridge, what kind of strings are you using, how is your eq set etc etc etc. I've got a rosewood P and my son has a maple P. Whichever we play we sound like ouselves.
 13.
Ok so I'm toying with this idea in place of adding a regular split coil p bass pick up to a jazz neck position. I'm guessing some routing would be needed regardless but what's folks opinion? I'm presuming the neck pick up on a jazz and a 50's style p would have different values in terms of output abt 8.5k on the jazz to a slightly lower 6-7k on a 50's style p. Love to hear your thoughts!
When you say a 50s style P pickup do you mean the single coil like this: ... or do you mean the later split coil like this:
 14. For those who might be interested, Simon Hattenstone's interview with Scott Walker for yesterday's Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/nov/23/scott-walker-interview
 15. This is a bargain - I've got the cream coloured one and paid more than this price about two and half years ago. I use mine with a Plat Pro and it works fine for DB.
 16.
haha I guess its horses for courses, or in this case decisions for Precisions
Exactly.
 17. When I had a Tony Franklin Precision, the one thing about it I would have liked to have changed was get rid of the switch and replace it with VVT.
