1. La Bella 760N - no idea what the gauge is, I rarely take much notice of gauge because it seems to me it's the style of string that matters more. But I've also regularly used TI Jazz Flats.
 2.
Ah...right. There is a thread on this site called "Trying to understand the lingo? Acronyms explained!" ....but its about internet-speak. Surely there should be a thread for bass references??? I mean the whole "bottom string"...which is actually the top string on the guitar thing confuses me still. And there are lots of references on here that make no sense to me at all
That's 'bottom' as in 'lowest pitch' not as in 'nearest the ground' and 'top' as in 'highest pitch' not as in 'nearest to God'.
 3.
ah right. Steinberger NXT... if not something of a similar price.....?
My NS Wav4 didn't have a bevel - I don't actually recall a bevel on any EUB. Only some double basses have them.
 4.
Well Herb says he bought it in late 59 if I remember.
.. and he's got the receipt.
 5. They don't all have the E string bevel. What EUB was it?
 6. Well, maybe your decision is made but I still say Cachao - and you write his story set within the history of Cuba and Cuban music and so sell more copies. Anyway, too late now.
 7.
just type "daguet" and guitars on gogle...
So are all the basses now your own version of the Dark Star pick up?
 8. So what did BGM say? Does anyone know?
 9.
Hello from France, I am this guy and I can't get these pu's anymore... so. I did them for my basses first , improving, if possible, their mounting but I've keep all the essential part of the "darkstar" same magnets, bobine, laminated core and pole piece sizes. and it works! (some new pictures on the site) have a nice day. DR
Very good. Do you have a link for the site? I couldn't find it.
 10. I don't read BGM but I like the albums a lot.
 11. With that choice, I'd say the Bronco definitely wins.
 12. Check this thread too: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/123001-late-60s-beat-pop-bass-stylesound
 13.
It sounds indeed like a Fender Bass VI, but you can get in the same vibe with a P-bass, strung with flatwounds, use a thick pick, and mute the strings with a piece of foam. I do it all the time. Qua amps: amps weren't really used in the studio, the bass just went "straight in the wall", maybe via a tube compressor. Here you see a lipsynch from that song, and here a jazz-bass is used. Herbie Flowers, the British recording artist is known for it's tick-tack sound, and he uses a 1959 (yes, it's a prototype) jazz bass, strung with thick flatwounds, and a pick:
Everlasting Love is Russ Stableford not Herbie Flowers but otherwise, yes, Jazz bass, flatwounds, heavy gauge pick.
 14.
No - Wayne will have to grow some of these:
I expect there will be a photoshop ....
 15.
Wayne - your bass is like a stream of Bat's piss - - - - - It will shine out like a shaft of gold when all around is dark
... but will it have echo location facilities?
 16.
I've measured my bass and it's kind of about 30.5" but the link below says otherwise: http://www.njaz.com/...rs/starfire.htm I measured from the nut to the twelfth fret and doubled it.
That website is wrong, your measurement is correct at 30.5"
 17.
Sorry to hijack, but how do you fretless guys monitor your playing in a live situation? Often as not I struggle to hear myself playing fretted bass in the band where intonation isn't an issue (as long as you hit the correct fret )
You've got to be able to hear yourself or all is lost so, if you really are having trouble hearing ... ... get a powered PA speaker on a stand right next to your ear.
 18.
Why would I want an amp?
... because it's not a double bass sized body, and even if it was you'd want an amp.
 19.

You need to actually speak - it's not enough to point at other posts. I stand exactly by what I said.
 20.
That's the thing. How much amp work is that opinion based on? Ever been inside it? Got gutshots from when you did? Opinions don't gain validity without basis.
He was just talking about how it sounded to his ear. That is a valid basis and whether he's been inside it is irrelevant.
 21.
There are such things as tube bass amps but are they the only way you will reach quality tone to it's highest level...
There is no such thing as 'quality tone to its highest level'. There's only the many sounds that people are happy using for the music they are playing. And if you play with more than one band then that sound can vary.
 22. Find a guy with a van who wants to be your roadie. Pay him an equal share and get him to fetch and carry as well as drive. Easier said than done but there you are.
