Will markbass be appropriate for rock?
EssentialTension replied to bassickman's topic in Amps and Cabs
I used a LMII with a 4ohm Ampeg 4x10 very successfully in a loud rock blues band. -

GAS For A Lakland Decade... Please Help
EssentialTension replied to Billy Apple's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks for that. I'd come down this weekend, but it's the BC'ers London meet on Saturday, and it's my mates turn for the kids. If I understand correctly, yours is a USA made model, but with Indonesian spec? I've looked up 'Plek', is this done to all Laklands, or is it just a USA thing? Plus, after having her for 4 years, how is she holding up?(and the cooker too!)
I'm probably tied up all this weekend anyway. PM me if you want to try to arrange something. The 'proper' US models are over twice the price and everything is US made - Jas (Legion) has one of those - but the Skyline, like mine, have bodies and necks that are machined etc in Indonesia and then the electrics and setup are done in Chicago. All Laklands are Plekked I believe, certainly mine was. She's pretty much as new, unlike the cooker which has done more gigs. So I'm off to a rehearsal now and I've decided to take the Decade. -
Oh Gibson, what have you done? (fugly guitar warning)
...but they are very much a niche bass. OP beware...they are awesome, but not an easy thing to sell on. Maybe they break the mould a little too much for some eh
I think there's some truth in this and I do tend to use my Precision much more, especially at gigs. I'd really like to play it in a 60s psychedelic type band - there it would I think be ideal. However, they are fantastic and slightly unusual basses. -
Not that I'm really in your area (if I was you would be welcome to try)... I did buy & sell my passive Humbucker here. Both the single coil and humbuckers are a great sounding bass. Personally I preferred the single coils (and the dark star one I had even more). The necks are awesome, as long as you like that "slim-jazz-neck-thing" although the US laklands have a different feel to the skylines. This has been relisted and still didn't sell..might be worth contacting the seller? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item20c58afe4a
Oh yeah, it was you Jas - the passive humbucker one was your first wasn't it? The neck is ultra-slim and ultra-low action on mine - in fact, lower than I would normally like. -

I've got one in Brighton too with single coils and no preamp. You're correct that humbuckers version comes standard with preamp. If I recall correctly, the passive humbucker one was a special order direct from Lakland - I can't remember who it belonged to and couldn't find it with a search. Mine actually came direct from Lakland too, it was one of the first batch in November 2008. Anyway, if you're keen to try the single coil version you'd be welcome. -
All this talk of valuable basses .. makes me wonder what Macca's original Hofner would fetch

Really? Didn't know that, thought he still had his 61 and 63 models.
He still has the 63, I think. Its possible value at auction is discussed in this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/108172-maccas-hofner-on-jools-holland -
First in the diary gets the booking.

3mm Big Stubby - mostly play with fingers though.

I have a couple - they are fine as long as the fixing to the wall is fine.

Do you consider yourself an "expert" bass player?

No. -
I really should be banned from Basschat for commiting the hideous crime of typing too fast, not checking my spelling, and then having the audacity to post up. Can there be a worse crime?
If people got banned for that then we'd all be banned.
Another nomination would have to be Pino Palladino. His vistuosity is not in doubt. Thomann - How long to sort a problem?
Slightly off topic, but do you get charged import taxes on things ordered from Thomann?
No import duty within the EU. -
Pasting the comment for visibility: Do you have preference between 4 or 5 string bass’? Paul: I do think 4s usually sound better. The E on a 5 doesn’t sound as good. Period. However I like playing 5 and enjoy having the option of the extra range of low notes without detuning.
Not exactly 'ruin' then.
separate from the button issue, but on the whole strap lock subject...... has anyone ever had issues with the hex nut loosening itself? this has happened with my warwick and schaller locks any remedies or is it just a fact of life?
I just always check they are at least finger tight when I put the bass on. If not then finger tight will get you through the gig and then get the spanner out later.

I'd say this is a situation where you either have to leave or you have to say something and see what happens but you can't do nothing at all.
