I try to look after my equipment and don't really understand why anyone wouldn't look after their equipment. I'm not precious about it and if it gets a dink so be it and I'm the same with other things in my life. I also carry spare batteries and strings and leads.

I'd say from the pics that it looks fairly normal. However, that's irrelevant, so if you're not happy then send it back.

I think it's called an extended arpeggio. The intervals between the notes are alternating major third and minor third. As you build the chords you go C, Cmaj7, Cmaj9, Cmaj9#11, etc. But I'm right at the edge of my knowledge here so I could be talking rubbish and I'm definitely not explaining why.

I don't see anything wrong with changing basses if that suits the song - I do it often, fretted, fretless, upright.

I expect someone with more expertise than me will be along soon to explain it but all the sheet musics for the song seem to give the key signature as G#m (i.e. five sharps).

And where your tab says Abm it should say G#m.

Take a 34" scale bass and tune it to Eb-Ab-Db-Gb. Put a capo on the first fret. You now have a very close to 32" scale bass tuned to E-A-D-G. It should give you a feel for what you are going to get. Of course the dot markers won't be in the usual places.
