1. Roger Miller - King of the Road - on the upright:
 2. It's on the Warwick website:

Available as 4-, 5- and 6-string
4 & 5-string available as fretted, fretless, left-hand* and fretless lefthand*; 6-string only available as fretted and fretless version*

3.
What about a nice bit of Level 42 for one of the 80's ones?
... on the upright?
 4. I know we can't afford it but surely this fetches more than $16,000:
1952 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop (Est. $14,000 - $16,000) No serial number, Trapeze tailpiece, tuners have been changed to Grover’s, pat. Pending with original case. This is one of the very first Les Paul guitars produced. The back of the headstock is hand signed, “Les Paul.” The guitar is pictured on page 238 of Paul’s autobiography Les Paul In His Own Words.
5. http://www.juliensauctions.com/auctions/2012/les-paul/index.html Some of the estimates look on the low side.
 6. Now what this makes me think is the gold Casady ought to have the black pickup and pickguard.
 7.
IMHO the best acoustic sets are where you don't just rehash your electric versions with acoustic instruments but revisit the whole arrangement and instrumentation so a djembe instead of a full drum kit, a mandolin instead of guitar in some places, that sort of thing. It's also fun to do but then I'm an old folkie rather than a rocker.
I agree with this. My amplified acoustic band (which has never been an electric band) mixes acoustic guitars, jazz bodied electric guitar, lap steel, mandolin, ukulele, harmonica, kazoo, and our drummer (who unfortunately has recently left us) had a small kit but would mix things up by playing, for example, only kick drum, snare, and maraccas, or using beaters or brushes. Meanwhile I mix up fretless electric, fretless acoustic, and upright, depending on the gig. But one way or another you will need to amplify at least the bass.
 8. I play in an acoustic band and we all use amplification. So, that's my recommendation.
 9. As best as can be said from that pic I'd say it could be genuine. It looks to have the correct tuners for a 97 US Deluxe. Definitely worth a look if you're nearby.
 10.
Don't Dean Markley produce their own strings too?
Probably. I'm guessing that the general rule is string companies make their own strings (e.g. D'Addario) but guitar companies get a string company to make their strings (E.g. Fender strings are made by D'Addario) - or something like that.
 11.
Didn't mean it could only do one sound! More the fact that it is very difficult to make it sound bad in a mix
Ah, then we agree.
 12. The Precision is not a one stop shop. It can do everything from dub to JJ Burnell - just move your hand, use a pick, change the strings, roll off the tone, use the eq on the amp, there's a massive variety in a P bass and that's why it's been used by so many people in so many genres on so many recordings.
 13.
Actually it's not the Hellcat VI, but the Ultra VI that I've played. I didn't think that Schecter would make more than one VI model!
It is odd that they make two of them. I played the Hellcat VI in the old Sound Control in Birmingham a few years ago. They only wanted £250 for it but I dithered and went away. I went back next day and it had been sold.
 14.
Most people who buy an Eastwood guitar do so for the looks. If looks aren't important, based on my experience of the Schecter Hellcat VI and having played both Schecter and Eastwood guitars, I'd go for the Schecter every time.
I've played Schecter Hellcat VI and it was a very nice instrument.
 15.
There's been baritone versions before, but AFAIK this is the first 30" scale 6 string ...
Ah, ok, that would make sense, I must have been looking at the baritones.
 16.
oh they have just been announced: http://www.ultimate-...idejack_vi.html
This might be a new version but I'm sure they have been around for a while because I remember looking at them a couple of years ago. Never tried one though.
 17. I thought Sadowsky strings were La Bellas.
 18.
+1 for Thomastiks, I've a set of their flats on a fretless and they sound good. I don't think they're tapewound as it looks like there are thin dark lines following the winding so possibly ground wounds? I've nothing to look at them close up, but that's what they look like...
I think Thomastik Jazz Flats are flatwound. To me they look and feel like tape and the TI website describes them as ' Nickel Flat Wound Roundcore'
 19. Any of you engineers built some Dark Stars yet? If so I'll take two.
 20.
Calling songs 'numbers'. It upsets me way more than it should and I don't know why!
It's been around a long time:
A number in music is a self-contained piece that is combined with other such pieces in a performance. In a concert of popular music, for example, the individual songs or pieces performed are often referred to as "numbers." The term is applied also to sections of large vocal works (such as opera, oratorio, or musical) when the written or printed score for such a work designates the titles of the pieces with sequential numbers, hence the aptness of the term. The use of numerical designations in extended vocal musical works has the practical advantage of facilitating rehearsal plans, especially when their designations include assignment of characters. 21.
We've had that conversation recently. That might have been Leo's intention (point taken from whoever made it so eloquently), but no it isn't, not any more. Its function in a band is nothing to to with that of a guitar, and physically you can't play it like one. It's an electric bass so get used to it!
In fact we've had that conversation several times and it's still a bass guitar so get used to it.
 22.
I bought one of these 'Muflers', I don't recommend them as they damp the strings far too much. I might try squashing it under something heavy for a while to reduce its size!
I've got a Mufler and I'd say it works rather well.
 23. Very good, I bet they'll sound even better once they've settled in, perhaps in about six months.
 24. Roto and D'Addario flats are both relatively bright for flats and Thomastiks are strong in the mid-range. Maybe try those if you haven't already.
