I always wonder about the guys using the smaller single 12 cabinets how you get on with them. You ever struggle for level or monitoring on stage?...

With Mesa Scout 1x12, I've never had a problem up against drummer, guitarist, and uke/guitar/harmonica/lap steel but then it may depend on the kind of band and musicians you're playing with because my guitarists are using semi-acoustic guitars and small combos and the drummer knows the meaning of 'dynamics' - sometimes it's only one stick and maraccas in his other hand, for example.
Also the Mesa is a 1x12 but also has a 1x10 radiator.

I grew up round the corner from there.
My first job as an aprentice -1968-was above a West Indian Cafe on Dudley Rd, Blue beat juke box running all day, rumbling up through the floor. Spent a lot of my time repairing Blus Spot radiograms. Always blamed me getting into Bass on that job.

I was born in Dudley Road Hospital in 1952 and lived in Spring Hill until 1957.

+1 BUT be aware that they are currently as scarce as hen's wotsits. I couldn't find any in the UK last month and ended up sourcing them from Thomann in Germany at an outrageous £35 a set.
If you want to try some but don't want to splash too much cash, I can let you have a pre-loved set for £10.
Nowt wrong with 'em, but they have been on two different basses already.

Just broken in nicely then.

You from round there then ?

Born in Winson Green and lived in Northfield, Erdington, Moseley and, washed up in Brighton via Leeds, Lancaster, and London
Mesa Walkabout Scout 1x12 Combo which sounds fine.
Before that I was using Markbass with Ampeg cab and before that Ashdown, which all also sounded fine.
I've got a Phil Jones Bass Briefcase too, which also sounds fine.
Some Epiphones, such as the Casino, never have had Gibson on them as they were never Gibson copies but Epiphone originals. Epiphone SGs are Gibson copies and did, at one time, have Gibson on the TRC.

The ultimate 'keep it in the mix' instrument. Few instruments sound quite as bad soloed as a banjo

I love the banjo!

I don't think I'm that interested in bass players so I don't know who is rated highly and who isn't. I generally like bass players who play interesting parts in good bands, and dislike bass players who play at trade shows.
Ah good, I'd nearly forgotten why I don't go to trade shows. Thanks for the reminder.

Fender Precision / Ford Escort of yesteryear - millions of 'em!

I thought they were more of a Ford Transit myself

With you on that. Squier Precisions are Fiestas.

Fender Precision = Ford Cortina Mk2
If my memory serves, which it may not, I started the 1970s with Selmer amp and Laney cab and, via Hiwatt, Marshall, Fender, finished the 1970s with HH amps and Electrovoice cabs.

The 5 String set of these has a "136" low-B.
How are these big hummers fitting in the nut, is everyone having to file a huge slot or you getting by without nut surgery? "that sounds bad don't it?"
When I had a G&L 2500 the TI .136 fitted fine without filing.

Don't think he was asking about the rights and wrongs of doing it. Just some advice on how to do it.
