1.
Both the top 2 are in favour of the system. Therefore together they outweigh the neggs
But the top two are in favour of different things so can't be conflated.
 2.
I'm heartbroken.
Suffering is the loom on which character is woven.
 3. On the earlier 'like' only system there was a notification if you got 'liked'. With this later and present system there are no notifications of who 'liked' your post or who 'negged' it.
 4.
My "Like" number has gone down - is it possible undo a "Like" after you've given it or does that mean some lowlife pondscum has negged me?
You've been negged, bro.
 5.
Bollocks - I used the wrong "Hear", didn't I? Still think it's a great idea though.
Hear! Hear!
 6.
Yes - let's say "Here Here!" instead. We're not bloody Americans.
Hear hear!
 7.
Anybody else like cheap strings ?
No.
 8. Despite the birdseye, I prefer the [s]rosewood[/s] pau ferro
 9.
Choosing between fingers and pick is all down to sound, feel and the ability of the bassist. I choose what ever I (and the band) thinks sounds best for each song. Also IME EQ'ing is not a substitute for a different technique. It might get you close enough in a gigging situation, but it will never be an exact replacement. If you do choose to experiment further with a pick there are plenty of things that you need to consider. Firstly the material and thickness of a pick make a difference to the sound. Go to your local music shop and buy a selection to try out at rehearsals. Remember that what sounds good when you are playing by yourself may not work with the full band. IME harder picks sound great on their own but the attack (which is what you are after) can blend in too much with the guitar sound in a band setting which defeats the object. Also you need to consider up-strokes and down strokes. An all down-stroke pattern has a completely different feel to alternating up- and down-strokes. You need to find the combination that drives the song along in the right fashion. Finally some of the attitudes on this thread are rather closed-minded and seem to exhibit all the bad things I see in complaints about "guitards". There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism and suggestions. In a band context it's all about listening to the song and making it sound as good as possible. It may be that an EQ change will do the trick, but it's good that someone else is listening and has noticed that there could be an element missing to the tone that would improve the overall sound of the song. A band is all about individual musicians locking together to produce something that is greater than the basic sum of their parts. If you can't see that then you are probably best off sticking to your bedroom.
Despite what I said above about sticking to fingers if you want, I agree wholeheartedly with what BRX says.
 10.
As I say..all in context. but yep..SERIOUS..!! Some keys have great sounds and some don't, some piano players insist on playing a bass part with their left hand through the bass players scope... and they are piano players first and foremost...and haven't spent much time in the studio. Depends how you rate that keyboard player.. depends how much credence I would give this or their suggestion.
Are you sure you're serious?
 11.
The puppy is sad now. Vote 'Keep the reputation system but likes only' for a world where nothing horrible ever happens.
This is wanton use of emotional manipulation to sway the electorate. Very nicely done.
 12.
I think the like thing is a bit of an ego thing. But it's handy on threads where someone makes a good point in a discussion or says something funny - people can identify with them without the need to post a response with something like '+1' which is a waste of a post. If it could be done that way without it having to tally total likes on someone's profile I think that would be ideal.
This is a good point. It should be the post that is being 'liked' not the person.
 13.
Can the Mods like and dislike folk though even though we can't do it on their posts??
Yes, because they are better than us, that's why they are mods. But they don't have to like/dislike because they can delete and ban. It's a bit like the police, they can arrest you but you can't arrest them.
 14.
Hi Guys, I'm new to this forum. My name is Lee Ferguson been playing the bass for over 20 years now. Im a full time musician and teacher. Look forward to chatting with you all
You'll need a TLA for this thread.
 15. I'd always avoid soloing but that doesn't at all mean that the bass can't be melodic, can't play harmonies, and can't stand out from the rhythm section at the right moment.
 16. If you got the job as a finger player then so be it. There's plenty of attack from fingers with the correct strings/EQ/right hand position.
 17.
So fellow bass players....... Do you think bass players should take lead roles in a band like lead guitarists or should a bass playing stay very much as the support/foundation in a band?
People can do whatever they want (or the band wants) but I'm in the rhythm section.
 18. I've never had anything to do with slapping and know nothing about doing it. I expect it requires an equal amount of discipline to fingers or pick. But when I hear slapping I almost always wish people would stop doing it.
 19. Some of this applies to tempo changes too. Change the tempo and you might need to change the bassline.
 20.
Is that pic actual size? Maybe I'll try one.
The picture might be slightly magnified but Big Stubbies are still large enough that they are more difficult to lose than those flimsy floppy things that some people prefer.
 21.
3mm pick?? That's thick! I mean physically. I like a bit of flexibility.
2mm is also available.
 22.
A fair comment, but I would bet money that 99% of songs written are governed by what key the singer wishes to sing. ...
That may well be the case and it's also the case that the massive majority of those songs were recorded with a 4-string bass tuned EADG.
 23.
The Hofner Sir Macca plays now is often assumed to be his first, bought in Hamburg for less than a Fender cost. How about the Hofner with " Cavern " pickup spacing? Didn't Paul play it first? I read it was restored around the time of Revolution and then stolen.{?} I think his 'backer recorded better.
I wasn't assuming it was the so-called Cavern bass, which was stolen and never recovered, it was the second.
