1.
3mm pick?? That's thick! I mean physically. I like a bit of flexibility.
2mm is also available.
 2.
A fair comment, but I would bet money that 99% of songs written are governed by what key the singer wishes to sing. ...
That may well be the case and it's also the case that the massive majority of those songs were recorded with a 4-string bass tuned EADG.
 3.
The Hofner Sir Macca plays now is often assumed to be his first, bought in Hamburg for less than a Fender cost. How about the Hofner with " Cavern " pickup spacing? Didn't Paul play it first? I read it was restored around the time of Revolution and then stolen.{?} I think his 'backer recorded better.
I wasn't assuming it was the so-called Cavern bass, which was stolen and never recovered, it was the second.
 4.
Shoulda got a 5 with 'proper' string spacing e.g. Lakland at 19mm (bridge) versus MM (17mm I think ?). Won't help with the 'extra width' thing though. (if that's not going even further off-topic)
I had a G&L with 17mm, I wasn't happy.
 5. That was great, made me want to play (better than I do).
 6.
I mainly play with a pick and in my experience the thicker the pick the better. I'm currently using 3mm big stubbies and they do the job very nicely indeed. Am currently trying to learn more fingerstyle though---want to increase my repertoire a bit!
I mostly play with fingers but I do like those Big Stubbies.
 7.
Proud new owner here... Really good to deal with Bob, everything went smoothly and he seems a proper gent.
Good buy, Jake. I've got one of these and it is a very handy bit of kit.
 8. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170728570933 Does it come with a set of strings?
 9.
P.S. Forgot - the "other thread" was pretty much someone else with the same problem as me and the respondents were all suggesting flat wound strings or half rounds. I`m getting better responses here, so far! Well done guys.
At least two of your respondents here are flatwound users. I'm surprised we haven't suggested them yet.
 10.
And something which hasn't been mentioned yet, EQ. You may have an issue if you have the tone all the way down. I have never used my precision except for Vol/Tone both on Full.
EQ on the amp could be a factor too, although that's more likely to take out a note or range of notes rather than whole strings, which is why I was asking about that above.
 11.
Beginning to wish I hadn`t asked - so embarrassed.
No, as others have said, don't be embarrassed.
 12.
In fact the USA equivalent of this forum right now has a discussion going on over exactly this.
Have you got a link for that?
 13. Are the D & G strings weaker whatever note you play on them, or is it just some notes or range of notes?
 14. I've had a few Precisions and not had this problem. Do you need to adjust the pickup heights?
 15.
... I tend to stay away from open strings as much as possible as I prefer to fret the note which gives me more control over it.
Foam.
 16.
"I'd rather go BEAD if really necessary." Whaaat-everrrr...
What?
 17.
If you hover over someone's name above their avatar, you can see how many total likes they have. I can see Monckeyman has 36 likes & daz has 14. I think the like system is fun & if anyone takes it serious, then a life would be required
So you can. You've got 28. EDIT: 29 now.
 18.
Oh no! I was just trying it out and I've added a neg. I'll go and find some other stuff you've posted and give you two likes. Edit for: and a bag of mint jujubes.
Just +ve the same post to even it out.
 19.
Great, now someone has 'Negged' my post #5. Working well already this, don't you think? Not likely to have any effect on what people post or anything, is it? If it's going to be like evilBay's feedback system where one is in constant fear of being negged by idiots then I'm out.
Negative for that one too.
 20. So did we lose the 'likes' we had already?
 21. The Tony Franklin is excellent. Wide range of tones available - even more if you have different sets of strings available.
 22.
Ah, fairy nuff. I never cut the strings, so they are shoved right to the bottom of the trees. As a result, my A's have a nice healthy break angle. Angled headstock? Schmangled Schmeadstock.
That's the way to do it.
