  1. I had a Bass VI tuned in fourths - EADGCF - for a while, but soon went back to B and E on the high strings.
  2. Were The Heavy Metal Kids .. er ... heavy metal kids? Just asking for a friend, obvs.
  3. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heavy_metal_music#Etymology
  4. Why Black Sabbath hated being a 'heavy metal band'
  5. What about the halfway house of the beat group, or, daringly, the beat combo?
  6. I had no idea of the death, due to I never heard of the band before.
  7. It is great but it's also indebted to the history of rock and roll ...
  8. If I were going to do that, which I never would, I'd get a luthier (or at least a guitar tech) to preprepare a bass for easy smashing. Maybe even with a few hinges so it's not really broke but just unhinged and easily folds back together like a Transformer.

  13. They were wrong wrong wrong but still never more than half a tone away from a right note.
  14. Play the root notes with solid timing = get hired. Over playing = get fired.
  15. Trust me, I have tried but it really doesn't work.
  16. Very nice, although I can't say I like the pickguard.
  17. My 2008 Precision American Vintage Reissue had a V serial number. You need to see the neck heel for an actual date but it looks more 2000s and very little 'original 50s'.
  18. I had an antique ivory one when the first batch were released three or four years ago. No neck dive and it sounded huge with EB Cobalt flats.
  19. A punter once told me I was too short to play bass. So, if you are 5'9" (175cm) or under, sell your gear.
  20. To me that reads as ... 6-22 '58 Just as the other pic shown reads ... 8-5 '83
  21. For a band that were progressive even by the standard of other prog bands, Gentle Giant surprisingly managed to retain a certain funkiness from the early Shulman days as a soul band.
