Is this in a residential house? In a residential area? If so, I'm surprised you've not had a problem before because if I was your neighbour I'd probably be complaining too and suggesting that you rented a rehearsal room.
I was thinking about not getting the black nylon ones, i heard theyre mainly used on acoustic basses?
I've got TI Jazz Flats on my fretted acoustic but La Bella black nylons on my fretless Precision and on my fretted Jazz. The black nylons don't have to go on an acoustic bass; it's just down to what you like the sound of and the feel of.

Very nice Wayne and a shock to us all I'm sure.

The Postman Knocked Twice Today

All looking very nice. -
I've used mine with several amps, valve and ss and hybrid and had no problems. You might want to adjust the settings but then of course you'd want to adjust the settings.

I've just been alerted to these basses by an out-of-the-blue (pun intended) PM from PhilW. Very nice indeed.
I've played fretless versions of both while I was on my quest to find my ultimate fretless bass. In all honesty I couldn't get on with the Shuker at all. It just didn't feel right to me and I could get comfortable playing it. That's not saying it's a bad instrument - just that like all the Shukers I've played, it didn't suit me. The Rob Allen felt a lot better but I still couldn't get on with the amount of handling noise that my playing style generated. I'm quite a "physical" player and every piezo equipped bass suffers to some extent from this problem when I play them. These may not be problems for you, but the only way you'll find out is the try one for yourself.
Thanks that's interesting to hear. I strongly fancy a Rob Allen but of course I've never been anywhere near one.
I would hesitate to call it 'acoustic', i mean, it's hollowbody, but there's no unplugged volume.
I hesitated to call it 'acoustic' but I didn't have a better word. (Quotation marks now added.)
They are nice and light, and the tone is loverly. The typical combination of a composite fingerboard and nylon tapewound strings give these basses a very unique feel and sound. Not a million miles away from a double bass, but then it's not trying to get there. Not an easy sound to describe... warm yet zingy... zaney??
Thanks for that.
pay £850 and you get a gigbag, a GIGBAG?!?! i payed £125 more for the full scale and got a lovely hardcase, even the faded series sg gets a hardcase
Besides which a Gibson in a gigbag is not necessarily a good idea. -

Gibson Thunderbird Short Scale - Limited run of 400
There is a picture here
From bridge position and number of frets that looks like a pic of a standard long scale to me. Probably no short-scale pics available yet. -

Rumours too of a reissue of the late fifties version of the EB0 and a Flying V bass and an Explorer. -
Just found the sound clip on the Shuker site, so that's a start. Sounds pretty good.

Anyone got any experience of the Shuker Artist 'acoustic' basses? I'm most interested in how they might compare with a Rob Allen.
I have been going thru Ed Freidlands method books and come across something that's puzzled me. Major sevenths are simply the 7th added to the chord so 1-3-5-7 Dominant seventh adds a flat 7th so 1-3-5-b7 OK so far....then Minor sevenths are built 1-b3-5-b7 according to Ed. But a flat 3rd on a minor scale makes it just a normal minor 2nd doesn't it, so why say flat 3rd? maybe I got scales 'n chords messed up or something? I didn't get a lot of sleep eitherlast night!
Are you mixing up the ordinary flat third of a minor scale (e.g. Eb in a C minor scale) with a further flattened minor third which would in fact be (and be called) a second?

In my experience, it's definitely got tougher in the last twelve months. -
yep, but not the Fender, it was the original Gibson EB1 which was violin shaped, so he went for the cheaper copy.

Yeah I know about the EB1,but I seem to remember an old interview where he says that Fenders were too expensive, and that was why he went for the Hofner, because he wouldn't buy it on tick.

I remember reading the same but about the Gibson IIRC he liked the Gibby because there were no left hand basses available and the EB1 wouldn't look too bad played left handed. Sir Paul, if you are out there and are one of the 'famous bass players on BC' can you please set us straight?
I've read the Fender version of that story but also that McCartney thought Fenders were for 'proper' bass players and, being left-handed, the symmetrical Hofner would look more natural anyway. McCartney bought his first Hofner in 1961 in Germany when the Gibson EB1 had been discontinued since 1958 (or thereabouts); so it would seem unlikely that he had an immediate choice between buying the Hofner or the Gibson.

Nice collection. With Jaco in the background the picture has a certain shrine-like quality.
