If he put you on every week then the punters would get bored after a month or so - the landlord is looking for variety so the punters stay interested, pass the word on to their mates and keep coming.
Yes, about four times a year is not uncommon. If you can guarantee a crowd more regularly then the bookings will be more regular, in my experience.
 2.
Fancy broadining my musical tastes and fancy trying out some solo bass music, anyone have any recommendations?? Looking for solo bass stuff, rather than lead bass with a group behind it
Possibly not what you are looking for but: Bottesini - Three Duets for Double Bass played by Ovidiu Badila and Wolfgang Guttler Bach - Cello Suite #1 played by Jeff Bradetich on double bass.
 3.
You sir are a frikkin genius - Valentines day pressie.....
Yes, I ordered [s]mine[/s] her's already.
 4.
Now that is kinky - Not for me you perv.... for my lady friend!
Well, I didn't want to jump to any unwarranted conclusions about lady friends. I recommend Be Cheeky.
 5.
Kinky........ Actually Dave do you have any...?
What size are you?

 7.
Me I'll have them pls.
All yours.
 8.
+1. Thunderous for their size and sound like a full on all-valve head. The quality is fantastic and the head removes easily so that you can use it with cabs. It's the sort of combo that raises an eyebrow from guitarists who don't think it'll be loud enough, then same guitarist asks if you can turn it down cos it's drowning out his AC30!
Looks like we've settled the volume issue then.
 9.
I'm horribly tempted by this. Been looking at these for a while now. Just a dumb question - how useable are they for gigs without the extension cab?
Depends on the band and the venue of course but these are loud combos (especially the 4 ohm version) so unless you were up against a bunch of Marshall stacks and a hit everything as hard as possible drummer you're probably not going to have a problem.
 10. GHS Black Nylons 50-105 long scale like this: I bought these from Clarky a couple of months ago but I'm not going to be using them just as he wasn't going to be using them. £23.16 +P&P at Thomann. I paid Clarky £20 posted. Yours for £18 posted. Come and get 'em.
 11.

I've made that joke several times and you're the first person ever to laugh. So 'Thank you very much'.
 12.
I had one of these a while ago,i really regret selling it, great bass for the money, going at a very good price too considering the additional endpin, shame im skint!!! bump
Thanks Lee, because I've still got your old one and it's still going strong. It's about to get some new tuners and a set of Obligatos. Someone buy this bass.
 13. 'Keeper' does seem to mean different things to different people and can vary from 'I've had it for two weeks and I have no plan to sell it before tomorrow' to 'My mother bought it for me as a first birthday present in 1951 and I could never part with it even though it's a dog'.
 14.
protect the main areas. card between strings and fingerboard (no loose strings flappin around scratchin pups and that), protect the back of the neck, pad around the controls, basic scratch proofing on the body, maybe some padding around the nut, gig bag, bubble wrap, box (homemade). failing that, a nardcase.;
Strange but true part 1: I used to know someone with the name Bernard Case. He was known as 'Nardcase'.
 15.
Speaking as a neutral in this, I think this is a reasonable offer from the seller and probably best accepted. Shake hands and move on. A lesson learned by everybody here. Steve.
+1
 16.
What I do find amazing is how the same information is interpreted in so many distinct ways by different people. It is good evidence that eBay is a place one should describe (or ask) everything up to the last detail.
Yep.
 17.
Would you ship this expensive Pro Level bass via Parcel Force (£28.00) with just a bit of 'sticky tape' across the catches of the case ?
First, I wouldn't ship any bass, pro level or piece of sh1t, with only sticky tape round the case. It needs to be boxed properly. Second, I read the advert (as you report it) as clearly including the case in the sale. However, even if the case were a 'give away' merely for protecting the bass during shipping I'd still expect proper packing. Third, as long as the bass is fine, I'd probably drop any complaint about the case and the packing as not worth the hassle. I'd satisfy myself with knowing I would write the advert more clearly and pack the bass properly.
 18.
... and a '71 Fender P/J (incoming) ...
Er ... weren't you selling on of those?
 19.
Pino has gone?!!!
That's what I was thinking.
 20.
What did they do on Last Waltz that needs forgiveness? (A straight question.) tg

The soundtrack recordings underwent post-concert production featuring heavy use of overdubbing and re-sequencing.
21.
Sorry Dave, Michael, and I may well be wrong, but from what little I can see of his bass playing on that video it's another of his post-production overdubs. I don't think we're hearing what he actually played on stage that night. I've never really forgiven The Band for what they did on The Last Waltz.
That'll be why I advised Big Pink and not Last Waltz.
