1. TI Jazz Rounds are also very flexible and low tension - and sound great too.
 2.
I used GHS flatwounds on two basses and thought they were great, and much less expensive than TI Flats. I would imagine TIs are good -- given their price, they should be -- but I'd simply be reluctant to spend that much on strings. Just thought the OP might want a second opinion on strings for the Casady.
The price may be higher but TIs have a distinctive feel and sound and they last for years. In fact I've never changed a set of flats because I thought I needed fresh strings. So the value for money is excellent.
 3.
Okay you all got me there I was really only commenting on how I'm amazed that it's only just happening. But y'know, we all know how amused / hacked off double bassists get when someone makes a [s]Violin[/s] banjo comment
Corrected it for you.
 4. Just had a look at the Galaxie, I'd forgotten about that one.
 5.
They have reissued a short scale, have a look for the Galaxie bass (its either blue or orange) I prefer standard 34" thoguh that's why I'm interested in the H185. I'd love a REAL Hofner like that one you posted but I doubt they're within a sensible price bracket The reissued Galaxie guitars have gotten some really good reviews but theres little to nothing said about the basses apart from the usual 'oh no its made in China aarrghg' etc
Taste_2000 was selling one here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...5&hl=hofner
 6. I expect Happy Jack will have something to say. Jack, are you there?
 7. My first bass was a 1960s 185 Artist 30" scale, like this: The reissue is 34", like this: I doubt that they sound very similar and I'd say it's disappointing that they didn't stick to the short scale. However the reissue may be a nice bass.
 8. Looks like you are sorted now but Nowhere to Run is in the R&B Bass Bible in notation and tab.
 9. ... and a harmonica was a trumpet.
 10.
Yeah something like that definately needs flatwounds, I hate a wooly tone personally and it was what put me off precisions for ages until I tried a bravewood. Only thing is, if you thinking of getting rid theres a dillemma for paying out 30-40 quid on some flats
If I had one - which I would like - I'd be trying TI Flats on it. However, Jack Casady himself is advertised as using roundwound Dean Markley Blue Steels.
 11. If it had strings, my old dad always called it a banjo.
 12.
Its also funny how there is always some subtle suggestions in these topics that a Ps are played by a picking 3 chord punk types and a J is played by a real muso does anyone really believe that to be true ?
I hope not.
 13. Come to think of it, I never quite got double necks either.
 14.
Yup.
I really liked the Zombies but never quite got Argent - even though that song was written by Rod Argent and Chris White (nice bassist) from the Zombies.
 15. Would that be Jim Rodford?
 16.
The main thing you have all missed is a P Bass is played with a plectrum ....
17.
But your test wouldn't address this issue because a P and a J are made of the same woods so of course it's going to sound really similar! And the pickups aren't really all that different either...
But the pickups are different enough - one humcancelling split-coil versus a pair of single-coils - to make the difference in sound.
 18. It was mid-1980s and I had hardly played for about two years. I got talking to a saxophonist. I said 'I used to be a musician.' He said 'Do you still have your instrument?' I said 'Yes.' He said 'Man, you're still a musician, you just ain't getting any better.'
 19. 2006 American Deluxe Precision - sold to Bass Chatter Bottlebassman:
 20.
Tony Franklin (one of two I've owned):
Ah, very nice Michael, and now in my possession - or is that the other one you owned?
 21.
I don't like the mini types that don't grip the neck, no good for heavy basses or ones that are have assymetrical bottoms.
I'd agree that a Jazz bass sits less securely than does a Precision bass on the Hercules 402B.
This lutherie article explains what's going on: Human Perception of String Tension and Compliance in Stringed Musical Instruments - http://liutaiomottola.com/myth/perception.htm
That's an excellent article as is http://liutaiomottola.com/formulae/tension.htm There are several threads on this and related topics already, for example: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=81825&hl http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=64841&hl http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=30385&hl

 24.
It sounds like you're holding the bass wrong. The "fix" you've employed is only going to cause additional problems down the line. Strap your bass on, and sit down with it sitting on your right leg. The headstock should be at shoulder level. Stand up... the bass should not move. The headstock should still be at shoulder level.
+1 on that method.
