2.
This is what I've been adhering to for the last 6 months since I've started practising properly. However, I find my plucking hand feels restricted and hunched up. With the longer strap it feels much easier, especially for using 'floating thumb' to mute, that's probably just me. I've played a little more since posting this thread and must admit to being a little concerned about the reach of my fretting hand though. It is restricted and a little choppier. I may have to find a compromise height. It's OK at the moment as I'm not playing anything particularly taxing but I should imagine anything above plodding pop music may get awkward for me.
As well as height of the bass, the angle of the bass to the body is important. Parallel with the floor may make left hand more difficult when the right hand position is correct. Forty-five degrees to the floor (i.e. headstock raised) may make both hands feel more comfortable - but that means getting the balance on the strap over the shoulder correct as well as the strap length.
 3.
IMO, 99% of session bassists are merely going through the motions in most cases.
If that was true then I doubt many of them would still be working.
 4. I like my strap adjusted so that the bass is in roughly the same place standing as it is when I am sitting down but sitting up straight and the bass is resting on my thigh.
 5. I'm sure it's a nice bass but that does sound pricey.
 6.
I've got my grade 4 exam in 24 hours! (10am on sunday) ohmygodohmygodohmygoooooooood
Don't worry, you are going to pass. You might even get a merit or even a distinction, but you're definitely going to pass.
 7.
What size do you use?
Trubass are 65-75-100-115 for the standard 34" scale.
 8. If you sell, you will regret it. If you don't sell .. well ... you can always change your mind and sell later.
 9.
You do know there is a 10 page thread already on this topic dont you ;-) Squier Jag thread.
He does know, he posted there saying he was going to open this thread so as not to hijack the other thread.
 10. I'm happy with what I've got ... but I'll take the Funk Machine.
 11.
I've never seen a band busking with electric bass. Have you?
Yes, quite a few, both in Brighton and London.
 12.
The stack is a Park. A UK company I believe.
I think Park were actually rebranded Marshalls, although I can't recall why that would have happened. Very nice Jazz bass.
 13.
I've emailed his management company!
But have they replied?
 14.
agreed and don't forget 'Stunning'
.. and plays like butter ...
 15. Many basses are not at all aesthetically pleasing. Exactly the same is true of guitars.
 16.
My point was - I wouldn't play a guitar they'd taken my name off! Would you? Edit: My pint was....
I always play basses they've taken my name off ... or was that a dream?
 17.
I thought Lakland had stopped doing his anyway?
It's just a name change - now it's a Lakland 44-64.
 18.
I've got a VW... does that count as it's still VAG?
No, a VW is only a copy of a Skoda, it's not the real thing.
 19.
Wasn't there a similar thread to this a few weeks ago?
Probably, there usually is.
But then again, I drive a Skoda - so what do I know?!
Me too. Can't beat them.
 20.
Played a 51 style P through Marshall at some point too Picture here and here
Ah, that's the Telecaster bass I was referring to.
 21.
Any idea what gear Wood used?
With the Jeff Beck Group he'd been playing a Fender Telecaster bass with the single coil pickup. I'd guess it might be that on Maggie May.
 22.
Only downside is we're on at the exact same time as one Bob Dylan.
Very good luck with that but I'm sorry to say I'll be checking out Bob.
 23.
Just had a look at the Pyramid range, are the Gold's not, er, gold?
No, that's just the name of the string.
