I was in a covers band. I played the band a song that I thought we might do and the vocalist said 'I don't know that song I'd have to learn it'. I said 'We'll all have to learn it, we do it all the time.' She said 'But I'll have to learn the words and the tune.'

Lakland 44-75 (that's the DJ replacement) mock up
EssentialTension replied to EssentialTension's topic in Bass Guitars
I work at a Former-Lakland Dealer. The distributor Headline (PRS) are no longer doing it, and looking at the Lakland site it says GuitarGuitar are the new distributor. And they have LOADS in stock!
Ok I'm with you now. I didn't quite understand. -
That Deluxe must have been something to give up the Holy Grail of Precision tone!
It must. Rich was raving about the 62P last week; as I am still. Anyway, it's a relief that I don't have to buy it because I've already got one. These basses are really fantastic - especially if you like vintage looks, feel, and tone. -
It isn't different.
It is. Check the upper horn. DJ4: 44-75:
Although any news on a new UK distributor?
I don't there's any reason to think distribution will change. The former Chief Operations Officer (John Pirruccello) is now the Chief Executive Officer - so although Dan Lakin has gone I expect it's pretty much business as usual. -
I think it's a good idea to keep this bass in their catalogue! Is this officially released or incoming?
Not out yet, I think. I saw it at the LOG forum. US version first and Skyline later. 55-75 too. I can't quite see how it's different to the DJ. -
Anyone know whats happening with Lakland?
You are so correct. Lakland's are flawless and consistent. I have played some new Fenders that have rivaled a Lakland, but they are STILL Hit and Miss. I think the Dunn and Glaub are similar apart from the Neck? I love the feel of the Jazz neck on my Dunn.
Unfortunately it seems they are neither flawless nor consistent. My Decade which came directly from Lakland is flawless but Musicman20 (Gareth) has seen a series of not up to standard Laklands in UK shops. He refers to it here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=86456; and elsewhere. He may be along in a minute to tell us more. -
The entire thread has been removed from TB, something to do with using the press release or something, how crap was that? I hope we're safe from that sort of thing BC.
Apparently, the OP posting the press release on Lakland's behalf should have asked the helpdesk first. That's TB.

Anyone know of something like Photobucket but for audio files? I've searched but couldn't find what I wanted.
I've always thought of him as being "that guy who wrote every classic blues song and riff who just happened to play bass" but check out this video. He was pretty handy on the bass too!
Ah yes, I try to remember to watch that every few weeks as a reminder ...

EssentialTension replied to Beedster's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Well mate, I'll be passing Clackett Lane this week........ I'm very well thanks Nik, hope all's good with you mate, it's been a long time? Yep, this is a bit of a bummer really, but I'm having to be a bit ruthless with this situation. The 1516 would be perfect got the covers band, but in terms of size and tone (very hifi for something of it's size and power), it's wrong for the originals band, or perhaps it just shows up my sloppy playing more than does a 15 alone, and in a small band with a thin sound, I could do without that! I'd love to keep it, only for the response of sound guys and other musicians when it arrives at a gig; "Wow, isn't that the one McCartney plays?" I guess what I'm saying is that if it ends up staying as a result of no interest here, I won't be upset. and I'm sure I'll learn to manage the hifi side of things. But as I said, I'll be passing Clackett's this week......... Cheers Chris
Mmmmm .... Clackett Lane. Very tempting. Chris, have you ever considered opening a musical equipment business of some kind? -
For a series that relegates bassists to the role of 'other' they sure had a lot of bassists in the frontman episode. I'd totally agree with their analysis that Mick Jagger was the first frontman. Not sure what else they were on about. I find it strange that they didn't mention Ozzy at all but then with a show like that there are always going to be people left out. EDIT: Just been on the BBC site to consider casting a vote. No Jim Morrison!
I understood why Jagger was thought of as 'first frontman' but, as was said, he was very influenced by James Brown. So it seems to me there were frontmen before Jagger - e.g. James Brown and many others - although I can see that it might be argued that the predecessors were not the frontmen of a group in quite the same way. My son made the same point as you about Morrison. He had to vote for Iggy.

I see the snooker is running over. EDIT: Ah, beaten to it.
Simples 1) Explain basic maths to Mrs ET: (current status +1) -1 = no change. You have not bought any new gear (some Jedi confidence could be useful here). 2) Demonstrate politics in action to the lad. There is clear evidence of a BAA-style monopoly here. Order him to sell some of his gear. Sorted
Er ... thanks Chris, I'll bear all of that in mind.
I've played two sets of these now and the E is thuddier than the others, a bit like the G on La Bellas is a little brighter. I think you get used to it quite quickly though and whilst it sound a little less bright in real time, recorded you don't notice it. Chris
I agree with that. I like them, got them on my Decade

pickups for squier classic vibe 60's p-bass
EssentialTension replied to bassmansky's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've put Wizard 64s in my CV Jazz so I think I'd be tempted by the Wizard Thumper for a P bass. Or, a little more expensive, I like the sound of the Lindy Fralins. -
yep, its still available as I never use it live (my band aren't good/big enough to play the bigger venues!) here's the original FS thread http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...2&hl=clarky
Thanks. I really would like to take it off your hands - unfortunately I need to (1) raise the cash and (2) find an excuse for Mrs ET. (1) is not necessarily impossible but (2) is affected by the phrase 'No More' which occurred when I arrived home with Chris's 62P. Mind you, the US Deluxe P has since left the building. It's made worse by my son also having four guitars, a mandolin, a banjo, and a Laney combo. Mrs ET says there is no room for her shoes. Unfortunately, she's correct.
Sorry Chris there I get lost - I don't really understand electronics - all I know is that I was told it was OK practically speaking. Maybe best to go on a Mesa forum? Or ask WoT?
The manual says:
The optimum speaker load for your WalkAbout is 4 Ohms. You may use a cabinet (s) of a higher rating safely (8 Ohm) with no degradation in tone, however the amplifi er will not produce its full rated wattage. Minimum load rating is 2 Ohms and while the WalkAbout will handle this lower load condition - and in fact produce more than its rated power, it is not recommended. Prolonged use of a 2 Ohm load will cause the power mosfets to run hot causing the protection circuit to trigger and mute the output signal until such time as the mosfets can return to a safe operating temperature. Avoid using 2 Ohm loads whenever possible.
However, on TB people always seem to say the 2 ohms is fine - just don't run it flat out for hours at 2 ohms. Clarky, are you still selling your extension cab?
