To me, that sounds more like a knock or even a drop against something hard and really nothing to do with truss rod tension. Any pics?

When I bought a bass direct from Lakland in Chicago, it crossed the Atlantic and arrived with the truss rod and strings in perfect tension. There was no loosening of anything.

I wouldn't loosen the strings when posting a bass ... but I still don't believe loosening the strings caused the skunk stripe issue.

She has more singing talent than me, and that's a fact. On bass playing let's call it evens.

I have never been a big prog fan but my favourite bassist in that genre was always Ray Shulman of Gentle Giant. I'd call him funkier than the average and no trebly Ric.

In the early 1980s, I had a Japanese defretted black Ripper copy which sounded great in a ska band. I can't recall with certainty what name was on the headstock besides not being Gibson, possibly Columbus. I've also seen online pics of Kimbara, Ibanez, and Shaftesbury labelled Rippers. I expect there were others. I'm not claiming there was any lawsuit.

Having looked it up, it seems it was the manager who went to prison. The drummer got community service.
