1.
Yup, Ive contacted the seller about the swap. While I love my Ampeg I do fancy the Lakland and think its a pretty reasonable swapsy.
I've thought about bidding on it myself but I've not really got the money at present so I won't be getting in your way. I'd say £599 is about max price for one of these. However, if you get to see it up close and decide against it, could you give me a report on it? EDIT: In fact, just give us all a report on it anyway.
 2.
Thanks for the info chaps. I dont mean to hyjack the thread and go off topic, its confusing in that I was sold some Roto Jazz flats by my local guitar shop but when I tried to fit them I found them too long (ie, if I did try to put them on the fat part of the string would be round the tuning peg). It was only then that I noticed they were LS. The DA flats were recommended so found them for a good price on hotrox, but they only do LS on there. Thats cool though if thats what I need...
I don't really know about the Rotos but with Chromes you shouldn't have a problem (in my experience) unless you try stringing through the body (which you can't do with the Squier anyway). Maybe the Rotos were extra long.
 3. Is it the one in Glasgow on eBay at the moment (£599 - no bids)? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Stunning-Lakland-Jas...=item3cac0ba064
 4.
Nice review, I've got a Sonic Blue one. Agree about the strings, they are really heavy on the frets too! Just one question - I was looking at getting some DA Chromes for it but saw that they only do them in Long Scale so didnt think they'd fit. Is that the ones you have?
Chromes are available in short, medium, long, and super long scales. For a Squier P bass you need long scale.
 5.
575W into an 8x10 will be LOUD
Yes.
 6.
So apart from knowing that someone runs twice the cabs with twice the power, does anyone have any actual genuine advice to offer me please? Thanks guys.
It was genuine advice. Your amp delivers 575 watts @ 4 ohms; a 4 ohm Ampeg 810 handles up to 800 watts; my experience is that they worked fine together. I'm sorry that you thought it not genuine.
 7.
Have you seen this
Unless Stevie's changed his mind it's trade not sale - I already tried to buy it off him.
 8.
...But that was twice the size of the head I have?
And twice the cabs.
 9.
Hey guys, Need a bit of advice if you'd mind giving it! Basically I am wondering whether an Ashdown ABM500 EVO II head would do a good job of powering an 810 cabinet? Obviously if the impedances matched etc etc. Would the head be able to power the cab sufficiently or would it be under powered? A bit about me: I play a Musicman Stringray 3EQ in a heavy rock band with a similar sound to KillSwitch Engage/ Avenged Sevenfold. I am up against a lot of electronic samples, two EVH5505 guitar sticks, a lot of backing vocals and a big a$$ drumkit... I am aiming for a warm, low, punchy sound (which I am achieving currently) but need it bigger and much louder! Thanks guys, any advice that you give would be much appreciated.
I've used an Ashdown ABM900 head (575+575 watts) with an Ampeg 8x10 and an Ampeg 6x10. It was absolutely fine.
 10.
Lol
I have succumbed - so have a bump on me.
 11.
D'oh! I should have thought that through more, especially since I read that link last time you posted it!
You're not the only one though, I've been there myself. I've posted that link several times now; it ought to be compulsory reading before anyone talks about tension.
 12.
c.) Adjust Pickup Height - How should they be aligned? At the moment they are angled unequally but are they supposed to be? Or should they be flat/even with each other?
Adjust the height of and angle of the pickup so that the volume from the four strings is even.
 13. Sold subject to the usual. Thanks to all those who showed an interest or made offers.
 14.
There are a whole host of factors which affect tension.
Only three factors affect the tension of a string: the pitch the string is tuned to, its vibrating length, and its mass (weight) per unit of length. Lutherie Myth/Science: Human Perception of String Tension and Compliance in Stringed Musical Instruments
The tension of the string of a stringed musical instrument is defined completely by the pitch the string is tuned to, its vibrating length, and its mass (weight) per unit of length. This is a matter of basic physics. But there are all sorts of other quantities and qualities that are said to affect string tension. They do not, but (and this is a big but) some of these may indeed affect the compliance of the string, and this will affect how tight the string feels to the player.
16. I'm going to regret this one day but other needs require a sale of my Markbass Little Mark II - I'm sure you know what it is but here's a link to the Markbass page if you don't: http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua...t=1&vedi=69. It's just less than two years old and has done a few gigs but is in close to mint condition and comes with a hard-copy of the manual and the original box and packaging. Front panel: Rear panel: The only thing that prevents me calling it mint condition is some very tiny scratches on the top surface which are very small and very difficult to photograph. In fact they look much worse in this pic than they do in real life: There is no bag - I did have a Markbass bag (which has to be purchased separately) but it disintegrated very quickly and I replaced it with a Gigskinz medium sized mixer bag (which I highly recommend) but I am not including in this sale. I'd like £390 including P&P. If you're local to Brighton either a pickup or a local meet would be possible.
 17.
No probs - don't forget post some pics if you buy one
I've been considering a set of lollipops (and D-Tuner) on my Squier CV Jazz. However the closest Hipshot replacements seem to be the HB3s whereas the HB2s (the ones available as lollipops) would need new screw holes so I am hesitating ... but maybe not for long. I already changed the pickups (Wizard 64s) and the scratchplate (white pearl) and I've been considering a J-Retro (not sure it will fit).
 18.
I got mine from joshmsr on ebay. He's a good chap to deal. Looks like he still has some: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT Blummin' good price even with the delivery charge added on.
Thanks very much.
 19.
Possibly a stupid question but would extra long ones be ok - is it just a question of winding them round more?! They are the same price.
With flats, it can be risky to wind the unsilked portion of the string due to greater likelihood of breakage. I wouldn't recommend it - nor through-body stringing.
 20. You're correct, Thomastik don't do different gauges. I use TI Jazz Flats on my fretless with a D-tuner and on the odd occasions I drop the E string to D it copes but I don't know that I'd want it that loose all the time. You might be better off with something a little more tense such as ... well, any flatwound compared to the TIs.
 21.
... one tuner has now been replaced with a lolly D-tuner ...
JLP, where did you get the lollipop d-tuner from? I can't see them on the Hipshot website.
 22.
Heh.. there was a subtle reference in my comment, but I guess it was just too subtle.
I'm sure some of us got it.
 23.
Great compressors these. Love the pre gain knob cranked for valvey juiciness!
Agreed and thanks for saying so but you're talking me into keeping it.
