2. It's looking good (but I even liked the tort guard). Interesting to see how the colour of the red changes with the different guards. Does the serial number start 'CGRI' - which would mean it was made in the same factory as the earlier ones - or so I believe
 3.
Beware of this. Very good if you want an instrument, but you can't buy amps and suchlike on it.
You can buy amps - see here:
What can I buy? 4.
No one is asking you to like, yet alone listen to Mr Big or the like, just to appreciate the musicianship involved and that others do like it
Like I said, I'm confident both players are better musicians than I am and I'm well aware that many others like it. I recognise that Billy Sheahan is a very talented bassist. However, you have appeared to be saying that some of us don't like it because we are resentful, scornful, and bitter because another musician is better than we are. I am none of those things.
Above all to accept that just because you don’t like a certain type of music doesn’t mean that it is without value
I did not claim it was without value. Clearly some people value it highly. However, it does nothing for me - and I remain without resentfulness, scornfulness, and bitterness.
Oh, and also not to post clips of classical music to establish your musical appreciation credentials!
I used that clip because it was already posted in the thread (as a link, though not embedded) and had been commented on in other posts, so it wasn't something new added to the discussion to establish my credentials. My liking of the clip was a counter-example to your claim that some of us were resentful, scornful, and bitter when confronted my musicians more talented than ourselves.
 5.
What is strange is how some people here seem to really resent this, seeing it as a gratuitous display of musicianship and showmanship (which of course it is) and therefore conclusive evidence that anyone who is better than them is in fact rubbish and deserving of all the scorn their bitter little hearts can manage!
I don't resent it at all although I do I agree it's gratuitous. I'm confident both players are 'better' than me but I don't scorn them and my heart is not bitter. I simply don't like it, I am neither impressed nor moved emotionally by it, and I have no desire to listen to anything that's very much like it. I'm equally confident the players in the clip below are 'better' than me; but I am impressed by them and moved emotionally and it caused me to buy Bottesini's Gran Duetti:
 6. 121mm on a 2006 American Deluxe too.
 7. ... and here's mine in action:
 8.
I've just PM'd in case a deal is not struck
Jake, my apologies, but I just transferred the necessary moolah.
 9.
Is it my fault WoT is a man of consummate taste on the bass guitar front?
+1
Is it my fault WoT is a man of consummate taste on the bass guitar front? I do still have my Oly White P-bass 'Sid', ET, if that proves I am not some kind of psychopathic, Munchausen's-by-bass-proxy stalker for Wot! Indeed if I had unlimited funds I would also have an Oly White Tony Franklin fretted Precision with P/J pickups and maple board. And a Fender Pino Palladino. Plus I have never been to Newcastle or the North-East, if that proves anything! (In answer to your question, not moving the thumb rest BTW)
Has the Shuker gone?
 10.
Ahh, now relaxing after a long day of jobs that had to be done... Well, having read the thread again I'm not really sure what you are asking Personally I love my TF, the ebony board is perfect allowing me to use rounds without any worries (plus I like the sound). The fit and finish is good, but I think like a lot of Fenders these days that can vary anyway but I seem to have a good one. I actually like the selector switch for its simplicity, my favourite by far is the P/J setting, otherwise its usually P, rarely just the J. A couple of times now I've come close to selling it but changed my mind. I'm very glad about that, as I'm sure I would be missing it already. I think the only factor to be really sure of is - do you want a fretless? will you gig it and use it? if it becomes a bedroom only toy you might well be selling it on in a month or 2 as its not getting used. I've tried to use mine a lot more live lately which has presented the odd problem (like being in the dark and not able to see anything!) Basically if you like P's, like Fenders, and want a fretless - get a TF J
+1 on all of this (excluding the bit about rounds and including the bit about the dark). ... and the part I've highlighted I agree with strongly. I'm gigging my TF more than any of my others basses at the moment but if that band were to fold and I was playing more material that wanted a fretted, then I would be wondering what such an expensive bass was doing only being noodled on when I was gassing for something else. However, at the moment, I can't conceive of ever selling it.
 11. I usually anchor my thumb somewhere - but it might be on the pickup (or the other pickup), or the neck, or the edge of the pickguard, or the E string and so different places for different sounds. I don't float across the strings but I do float along the strings.
 12. Hey Clarky, very nice indeed - but you seem to be turning into WoT. When you get that correct tort pickguard on the fretless will you also be moving the thumb rest to make it a tug bar like on the other two?
 13. I'd recommend the CV too. But it may need some upgrading on the electronics as already suggested. Wizard 64s in mine now.
 14. There have been a few threads connecting to this Lakland setup guide but I'd say it's worth it every time.
 15.
The two dudes playing DB are awesome. I'd listen to that over the Gilbert -Sheehan thingy any day of the week.
A very big +1 on that.
 16.
I'm strongly committed to the P pickup

I genuinely love this phrase, and will immediately adopt it in relation to my P/J. Beautifully put!
Thanks.
 17.
But you got rid of both....
WoT has got rid of a few other basses too. But at least he let me have one of them.
 18.
Surely having both PUPs on all the time and simply varying volume on each does the same thing (I prefer two vols to one blend pot anyway)? Or am I missing the point and the TF only has one volume control and one PUP selector switch, like my old Ibby PJ? If so, agreed, that is very poor design C
Correct, one pup selector, one volume, one tone. (And I would prefer two volumes to a blend control too.)
 19. Is this still available? ... and PM sent.
 20. The TF fretless is a very excellent bass. I'd say its only weakness is the lack of the possibility of blending the pickups - the switching gives 100% P or 100% J or 50%/50% P/J but no inbetweens but this is not a major problem. I'm strongly committed to the P pickup but letting the J in can sometimes really help with cutting through.
 21.
Hopefully not Sunburst, for the sake of The Bank of WoT...
Sunburst here at Thomann
 22.
That is what I originally thought, but he is right, I have just checked on the Squier website which says so too.

( Squier Website) The Classic Vibe Precision Bass ’60s delivers the true Precision Bass experience. Huge tone roars from its traditional split-single-coil pickup.
But doesn't that mean 'single coil' because each string is only picked up by a single coil but there are two coils (i.e 'split') one for E-A and one for D-G which then hum-cancel each other.
 23.
The stock pickup isn't a humbucker, just a standard split single coil, so I'm not surprised it's noisy!? Si
Do you just mean this particular Precision pickup? Because split P pickups are normally hum-cancelling aren't they?
 24.
Right..... it's indeed a lovely bass and now that I have spent the last hour adjusting the action and the correct neck curve it plays like butter however, sadly playing it through the amp confirmed my suspicions, there is a lot of static when touching the strings on and off, this is meant to be an humbucker but it bucks f*** all hum! There seems to be hardly any earth or screening and I will have to have it done, for sure. This pickup sounds ok'ish but you need to warm it up with the amp eq controls otherwise it's brittle and thin, I didn't expect it to sound great, I hoped it would, but it doesn't and after my experience with the other two Classic Vibe, the Jazz and the 51 reissue, both needed new guts so I knew this one would have been no different. On the plus side, considering that the rest of the instrument is well constructed and the neck is lovely, the neck pocket is the best out of the 3, sorting out the pots and wirings and fitting a new pickup is not going to cost me an eye and as I said in my previous posts I had planned for this even before I bought it. all part of the fun.... oh and on looks, having seen that Hank Marvin Salmon Pink beauty (hehehe) I have decided that a white p/guard is more at home than this cheap looking tort which looks like someone puked a whole kebab on it
Looks very nice though.
