On more than one occasion I've been told by a punter 'you look like you should be in a reggae band'. On one of those occasions I was in a reggae band.
 2.
Come on, black is the new white!! Bump!!
What happened to the white one? I missed it.
 3. Does the pickup have the E-A coils in the usual position and then the D-G coils moved above them nearer the neck? Or are the D-G coils where the E-A coils would have been relative to the neck? Looks to me as if the D-G coils are nearer the neck than the usual E-A position. I'll stop now before I confuse myself.
 4. I've got TI Jazz Flats on my Michael Kelly. Acoustically it is quieter than when it had acoustic bronze rounds on it but I had to amplify it to play with others then so I don't see what difference it makes.
 5.
Yeah great to see a rare little glimpse of the great man in action. My mum is a massive fan of Bix Biederbecke, and the only footage of him is one fleeting clip from a film made in the 20's of a big band he was in. That one clip is precious to mum, and she plays the DVD of it regularly, even though it's only a few seconds. Point is, modern heros are very much more accessable that the old ones, so rare old clips like this one are very important to us older folks.
Hey, steady on, who are you calling 'older'?
 6. The strange thing is I really like the look of this but I have absolutely no need for it whatsoever. That's true GAS.
 7.
I enjoyed it too! What a fantastic voice the lead singer has/had. Was that david Ruffin? Not one of their greatest tracks though IMO...
Yes, David Ruffin and definitely a fantastic voice and I think it was a B-side.
 8.
Hi Chris, I'm not sure to be honest. I would guess it could power small speaker probably around 20-30watts due to the 16 Watts power capacity. This might be worth checking with PreSonus. Sorry I can't be of much help. Cheers Nick
Maybe I'm misreading the spec at the Presonus site but isn't that 16 watts the power supply not the power output?
Power Supply Type..................................................... Linear/External Transformer Input .....................................................................16 VAC/1000mA Power ............................................................................ 16 WATTS
9.
I didn't mean any offence with my comment. It was just that there was 5 seconds of blurry picture of him playing bass. You can't exactly hear the bass on the video so i didn't quite get what the fuss was
No offence taken. I didn't mean any fuss but footage of Jamerson is rare to say the least and I'd not seen this clip before. I wasn't only interested to see Jamerson but the whole set up even if it was set up (no pun intended) for the CBS cameras. My favourite bits were actually Joe Hunter counting them all in and Eddie Willis playing a Gibson Firebird. Also, stupidly, I hadn't realised before that Bobbye Hall was a woman.
 10.
What do you think bass chat?!
I think you won't save any money, you'll lose your warranty, and it simply isn't worth it. Just get Bassdirect to get you one.
 11.
Surely that must have been a publicity shoot? Would they really have used Studio A and the Funk Brothers for a rehearsal? Interesting clip though.
The youtube poster says:
Given the fact that Motown had not been conducting Live sessions with the vocalists and instrumentalists recording at the same time since at least 1963, this session was clearly staged for the CBS News cameras that were doing a brief piece called The Motown Sound. Pictured in the studio are songwriters Lamont Dozier (Standing on the steps at the back of the studio), Brian Holland (The guy who cuts in on the band), Ivy Jo Hunter (Does the countdown), Russ Terrana (The engineer standing up), James Jamerson on Bass, Earl Van Dyke on piano, Bobbye Hall on congas, and from left to right on guitars Robert White, Joe Messina and Eddie Willis. The arranger, wearing headphones and conducting the band, is William Witherspoon. To the best of my knowledge this incredibly rare piece of film is the only one of two pieces of footage ever shot at a session inside the studio known as the Snakepit.
So, yes, not what would normally have happened - still interesting though (for some of us).
 12.
erm, and?
... and nothing at all if it's of no interest to you. I'm confident some people will be interested to see it.
 13. The Temptations and the Funk Brothers live rehearsal in the Snakepit 1967 See Jamerson at 1:40
 14. For me, the first guy was truly awful, I could listen for about thirty seconds. I tried jumping forward to other levels but it just got worse and worse. Tetsuo Sakurai I could listen to but I couldn't see any point in doing so. Gustavo Dalfarra actually played music, which was nice and a refreshing change, but I wouldn't be rushing to listen again.
 15. Lots of people use flats and a pick. It was not uncommon amongst '60s session players like Joe Osborn, Carol Kaye, John Paul Jones. No clicks there.
 16.
..... I'd hate for somebody to tell me to stop playing because I hit a certain age .....
Too true. Next they'll be telling us we're too old to breathe.
 17.
A Rob Allen Mouse 30... I would love one of these... check out the solo
hmmmm..............that one wins.
 18. There are three things troubling me: 1. In pic ten, where the finish is chipped away from the body edge by the bridge, shouldn't the exposed wood be dirtier? Perhaps it has been stored in a very clean way. 2. It must surely be a trick of the light but in the seventh pic, looking down the removed neck, the fretboard looks the wrong colour, very rosewoody. Although if it was rosewood it would be a slab board, yes? 3. In pic four, should the pickguard screws be slot or crossheads? Some look to be slots but some are crossheads. What do you think?
 19. By the way, I would say the D'Addario Chromes are not as tight as La Bellas but nothing like the TIs; more like Pyramids. They are certainly fine with a pick and can be quite trebly until they are broken in, IMHO.
 20.
Cheers Dave, Yeah, Pyramid Golds. Are they really dubby though? Will I get a little top end? I've read in other threads they are very dubby, how do you find them? I suppose if I boost the treble to suit, I'll get to where I want to be. Yeah I'll have another look at them. Nice one, Mario.
I've got them on my Lakland Decade and they can certainly do dubby (especially with the neck pup on the Decade) but they are not devoid of treble at all if you want it (especially bridge pup) - I believe McCartney used them on his Hofner and then on the Rick (I'd be happy to be corrected about this) as, I believe, did Casady and Lesh. It's always a problem with trying out flatwounds that they are usually substantially more expensive so I don't want to tell you you'll like them when you may not. I don't use a pick myself but I don't see why TIs shouldn't work with a pick except that they might be more likely to break if you are (over-)hitting them hard. I think Clarky uses TIs with a pick - maybe PM him and ask.
 21.

That looks cool.
 22. Maybe Pyramid Gold Flats which are more stiff than the TIs but less so than the La Bellas - but there isn't really any substitute for trying them yourself and finding out if they suit you. I believe you can get the Pyramids (or other strings) from StringStar with a Basschat 10% discount using the code stringstar10vip
 23.
I can't think of a Mexican Telebass model with truss rod access at the headstock with a black surround - like a Squier?
Is there a Mexican Telebass model at all?
