The Squier CV has completely taken over from my Lakland DJ4.
I've been at a weekend jam all day yesterday and today. I played my fretless P when needed for the song but other than that I played my Lakland only a couple of times - it was Squier all the way. And I'm not even much of a Jazz bass fan usually. These are definitely cracking basses. I've got mine wearing Pyramid Black Nylon Tapes.
How much does the CV weigh compared to the American Fender. Also, are there any dead spots ?

No dead spots on mine. Weighs 9.5 lbs.
My CV Jazz is 9lbs 4oz. No dead spots.
You mean, rather like this...TOTP That's one devilishly handsome bass player, don't you think? Still got the bass. Anyone know where I can get the electrics looked at?
Devilishly handsome and a nice bassline which I have to admit to having copied on more than one occasion.

But +1 on a reissue Guild or DeArmond Starfire but replace the stock humbucker pickups with Dark Stars.
Stop putting up pics or I really will have to take up fretless!
Sorry
The eBay description says "the pickguard has been shaved slightly just in front of the Jazz Pickup to stop your thumb being wedged" - you can see it, even though there's no close-ups. Its adjacent to the E string pole pieces on the Jazz pickup
Ah yes, I must remember to actually read what it says. I can see now. Call me fickle but I don't like it anymore. I'm a bit dubious about the idea of my thumb being wedged though.
Now your Tony Franklin is drop-dead and perfectly proportioned - as shown in Michael/wot's pic .... this on on eBay just looks a little cramped to me (and its a shame to have to shave off part of the s/p). Its probably a cracking bass, mind, and good value if you are happy with the looks
Well, Clarky, here's another of Michael's pics for your edification: Do you think the ebay one has something shaved off the scratchplate? I can't see that.

The J on my Tony Franklin is in (I guess) 70s position = 1 and 7/16 inches from base of the bridge. Bridge pickup on my Classic Vibe is (I guess) 60s position = 1 and 11/16 inches from base of the bridge. And on my American Deluxe P the neck side of the double J pickup is in 60s position but also extends nearer to the bridge of course = 1 inch from base of bridge:
I've never really understood why so many people dislike Sting. Regardless, the guy is a legend and people neglect his contribution to music. I mark him as a great influence on my playing.
I've got to admit to being annoyed by some things about him but I think you're correct about his songwriting and his bassplaying and his singing.
Think what you like about his tree-hugging, his tantric sex and his new beard - that bloke can sing. And he's no spring chicken. Little bass-player totally made up when Sting compliments him on his rendition of the bass part. Awwww! Thanks for posting this, wombatboter!
Yeah, that was good. I was more disturbed by the fisherman's jumper than the beard. And I would not have minded at all being that bassist.
