1. I use them whenever I can - especially playing fretless, when they are the notes you know should be in tune, or when changing left hand position to gain a bit of time.
 2.
I used to have one of these, tremendous instrument, and the amber burst really does look classy, (much better than the pics online) great sound and very easy to play, wish i hadnt sold mine, too skint to buy this though - bump - lee
Sorry Lee, but I've got it now and amber burst is definitely to best colour.
 3.
OK they only person I can think of that deserves a signature bass (& doesn't already have one) is that chap that plays bass for obviously 5 believers & skunkeye: It'll be a fender custom shop 'new old stock' 1966 reissue mustang bass in daphne blue nitro, neck profile like a CIJ resissue, but also with nitro finsh. Aged pearl pickguard, string mutes & tug bar, hipshot vintage style lollypop tuners including a D-tuner. Original style pickup and passive electronics. Fitted with Thomastik TI-JF324 strings. Of course a silver tolex case would be included. A squier version of the above to the standard of a classic vibe with less bells & whistles would be cool as the starter version.
I'd be your first customer.
 4.
Undoubtedly but it's an odd situation where the founding people who gave the band it's name have relatively few writing credits through the years, I suppose it's probably not a lot different from Wyman & Watts though
Agreed.
 5.
You have PM
And replied. And sold subject to the usual.....
 6. Very nice, Andy. Were your wife's snapshots a replacement for buying one while you were there? Did you see around the workshop too?
 7. Well used but in good condition Tascam CD bass trainer with mains power supply. If you don't know already, you can see what it does here on the Tascam website. It looks like this: All in working order but please note that the CD lid occasionally falls off due to damage to one hinge in a fall and so needs to be clipped back on. Because of this and my desire for a quick sale, I'm asking the absolute bargain price of £30 posted. I don't have the original packaging but it will be well packed.
 8. I'm going to regret this but other purchases loom on the horizon so..... For £65 posted: Electro-Harmonix Black Finger Compressor in good but well used condition (with slightly tatty velcro on the bottom) and complete with its own 12volt AC power supply unit and in original box. If you don't know what it does then see here at the EH website. £65 posted
 9.
McVie & Fleetwood have been pretty lucky to have intially got a talent like Peter Green on board and then in later years (when the band was once again getting a bit directionless) the Nicks/Buckingham package . And then there was Christine chipping in with some quality songs of her own to boot.
Well, lucky in a sense but they got lucky because they were/are a great rhythm section.
 10.
Yeah if they weren't so expensive I'd by a set of each but unfortunately I'm not flushed with cash. From what I've seen on Youtube the La Bellas sound better to me Is TI Tomastik?
Yes, Thomastik Infeld Jazz Flats or TIJFs.
 11. I was thinking 'Didn't we do this only recently?' but apparently it was back in February. Time flies, eh? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=signature
 12.
I'm thinking a botu taking the plunge and putting some flats on my Jazz. Would you recommend La Bellas or the TI Jazzs. Since these two seem to be the most popular. For the record the band I play in is british rock n roll (Beatles, The Who, The Clash, The Jam) that sort of stuff but it's all original material, and my bass lines have abit more of a reggae/ska feel to them rather than the usual root note thumping.
You may need to try them both to see what you like better, although I'd say either would work. I much prefer the TIs which are nickel and looser tension wise. The La Bellas are steel (I think) and much tenser. It's a while since I played any La Bellas but IIRC the TI's have a more middy sound. You might also want to consider Pyramid Golds. No doubt a second opinion will be along soon.
 13.
Thru body with same strings are noticably tighter, strings have less 'slack', and less freedom of movement.
I don't mean to deny your experience but, all other things being equal, the physics of this means that if the overall string length is greater from through-body stringing it will make the string more not less compliant or elastic and can have no effect whatsoever on tension (which is determined only by mass per unit length, pitch, and length between nut and bridge). If through-body stringing were to shorten the length between bridge and string end then you could expect an increase in compliance or elasticity. My own experience is that it makes no discernible difference with the extra lengths we are in practice talking about.
 14.
jaysis am I hung over or what. sat down for a pint with some friends yesterday and at about 11 o'clock we were right pissed. didn't stop for 3 more hours though.
Perhaps you should have stepped away from the computer. I recommend bacon sandwich, chocolate milkshake, large brandy - you'll be right as rain.
Maybe if you could persuade Espie to tie her hair into a pony tail?

Besides, I think I won: someone seriously took the comparison of a lady in her sixties (has to be?) to a woman not 30. I mean... That should be a no contest, really. AND IT ISN'T!
15.
Give Esperanza a bell and ask her if she wants to go see ToP with you. Job's a good 'un.
Best answer by far.
 16.
Cheers, guys. If you want a good idea of how versatile flats can be listen to some tracks off the new REM live album. Mike Mills uses flatwounds on his Precision and strikes them with a pick. His tone is just fabulous.
On a lot of 60s pop in both US and UK the session bass players - e.g. Carol Kaye, Joe Osborn, John Paul Jones - were using a Precision or Jazz with flats and a pick.
 17. To the original dilemma, I say if you can't do both then do ToP - because there will plenty of future chances to see ES but fewer to see ToP.
 18.
Erm... Man what? There are some very good looking women musicians around, but Esperanza? Are you guys blind?
I think you're mistaken:
 19. Very very nice Clarky. How many cushions are there in your home?
 20.
Glad to have been of service, Dave But I will tell you that the quality of these is really consistent. Every CV Jazz I've picked up has been a corker. The next Jazz up the food chain is literally the American Standard. They'd might as well close the Enchilada facility in Mexico, LOL.
Oh dear - I've got my fingers in my ears.
 21.
Jazz now sold. Thanks for all the interest! Rich.
That's a relief. I was having trouble resisting. Well done, Rich.
