I now have microfibre cloths (and lighter fuel if it's needed) at the ready.
Please be careful with the lighter fuel, accidents can happen: -
So how many songs do you know?
EssentialTension replied to warwickhunt's topic in General Discussion
I've forgotten more songs than I do remember or care to remember. But many I could learn again in hardly anytime. -
And the description begins: Gibson Les Paul SG Custom 1961.
Great clip... thanks for posting it! What a nice man. I wish he was my uncle.
The other videos on that link are also interesting. Carl Pedigo (as well as Dan Lakin) has some interesting things to say about nuts, zero frets, pickups etc. that are of interest whether or not you're a Lakland user.

Someone has copied a list that was not the most up-to-date because my Mesa Boogie Walkabout is now missing as is Wayne's new Bongo when at one point they had both been added - and for all I know other things too. BTW, congrats on that Wayne.

How many strings on a standard bass guitar?
EssentialTension replied to JimBobTTD's topic in General Discussion
Think I read somewhere that during the 60's and 70's if an electric bass was called for it was labelled as "Fender bass". Not the number of strings but the manufacturer (bit like Hoover I suppose).
I'm still advertised as 'Electric Upright Bass & Fender Bass' on the publicity for one of my bands (but we are quite retro). -
Shame Thmastik don't do singles of the 'regular' flatwound strings - I just bust my G-string (oo err missus)
The only place I can remember being able to get singles was from Steve Barr at the old Dudepit, he would split packs.
Just came across this on Amazon - Fantastic value for money - its got lots of the great Prestige recordings (Workin, Relaxin, Steamin and Cookin) and Miles' 'Miles Ahead' stuff. The second box set is Porgy and Bess, Milestone and others. All for less than £4 each. If you haven't got these (all have Paul Chambers on bass), you have to get them. Its the law.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Miles-Away-Davis/d...d_ys_ir_all_127 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Miles-58-Davis/dp/...d_ys_ir_all_157
OK.
All, I'm looking for either a low-B or high-C TI jazz flat single string. You can get these from juststrings.com, but I can't seem to find anywhere in the UK that does them. If anybody has one second hand that'd be dandy too.. Failing that, how are chromes on a warwick corvette? cheers john
http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/strings/bass_guitar/thomastik
Could well be its cause he strung it BEAD without changing the setup.
Stringing BEAD is usually about the same tension as EADG (sometimes even less) so that ought not to affect the action to such an extent.
See my later edit in my last post - I wasn't going to bother, but hey!
Ah, nicely done. A modern English h is sounded at the rear of the mouth cavity (there's a technical term for this but I can't recall what it is) but an ancient Greek rough breathing would come from nearer the front of the mouth behind the upper front teeth with some tongue use, I think. Even the modern Greeks have dropped it. I used to have a Greek girlfriend and her mother used to say 'Bloody English, they put an h on everything'. Her name was Eleni but people kept calling her Heleni. Of course, I could be talking nonsense.
<Pedant alert> That should be 'harmonia', rather than 'armonia' if you want an accurate transliteration, as the breathing on the alpha is rough, not smooth. </Pedant alert>
I love pedantry. Let's have some more.
