And they're British!
I used Ashdown for ages (although not any more) and good amps I say. But a lot of them are actually Chinese these days.

How many strings on a standard bass guitar?
EssentialTension replied to JimBobTTD's topic in General Discussion
Nope. Double bass > electric bass. The family resemblance is only that. Only the playing position is guitar-like. Even frets were on upright basses once, y'know... Look at the old Jazz headstock, it specifically says "electric bass"; look at a Fender VI, and it specifically states "electric bass guitar". The Musicman Silhouette is similarly titled. The VI is also erroneously called a baritone guitar - they're tuned to A or B, not EADGBE and are usually 27.5" scale or similar. Not to say you can't mess with different strings, of course... At the time, remember, if you played bass, it was either an upright or a tuba... A bass that can easily be played by a guitarist, yes. A bass guitar, no. However, I realise that this particular bit of pedantry is considered old-fashioned. So be it. I am too!
But what you call a 'double bass' is actually a bass violin (as opposed to a bass guitar). -
What exactly are the changes on the new model/ one input instaed of the passive and active? Nodd
Separate passive and active inputs are replaced by single input and passive/active switch. And it's black rather than silver. I think that's all. Someone else may know better. -
Hey Burno, I think the EQ thing is the way around it. Might take some time to work it out though.

How many strings on a standard bass guitar?

We seem to have this discussion - in one form or another - about once a fortnight. So, apparently, it's never 'end of'. -
My Ashdown combo has a 'Tuner/Line' output socket, can I plug a line in here and plug into a PA
The tuner/line output is probably not suitable for a DI to the PA due to wrong impedance and being unbalanced. I think you'd use that either for a tuner or to slave up another amp.
-
It's an Electric Blue 180, yes it has a DI output. I was told this was for recording and once conected no sound would emit from the speaker.
I don't think that's correct. From the Ashdown website:
a front panel-mounted balanced DI output for connection to a PA or recording console
-
Which Ashdown combo is it? Some of them have a DI out. If it has that you use that.
On behalf of all Johnny Cash fans & country bass players, I'd just like to say listen to some bluegrass players. All the top Nashville bass players are actually serious virtuosos when you see them in soundchecks or just messing around! The PurpleBlob is right - deceptively simple sometimes!?
+1 on this. Even when it's 1/5 there's a groove to be grabbed.
I depends what you want to use it for.
+1 If you want transparency the Aphex Punch Factory is good. If you want more of a old school sixties motown type valve compression try an Electro-Harmonix Black Finger - which I use. As I'm sure many people here will say, you might need to go through a few different ones 'til you find what you want.
As if the cheeky buggers! They promised it wasnt a return. Ill never be going to GuitarGuitar again.
Nor me but be thankful that you (like me) were smart enough to think that the price was just too low and that there had a be a catch otherwise you might have just hit the 'buy' button. -
Sweet, that's where I'll go then. I want to give the Orange bass terror a go as well before I fork out for one or the other.
They could only get the Walkabout on sale or return because the UK distributor already had some (I don't know how many) in stock. If it was going to come from Mesa in the US they were going to want a deposit before it was ordered. It's worth phoning them in advance to see what they've got in stock. -
I bought my Walkabout 1X12 from GuitarGuitar. It was the original two input model. I had all sorts of problems with it which the distributors (also based in Glasgow) did their best to sort out. After a few attempts they decided to replace it with a new one which was the new one input model. It has been great. I sometimes wonder what happened to my old two input model..........................
I think we know what happened to it, don't we. -
Which shop local to Brighton did you get it from?
GAK. They were good enough to get it on sale or return from whoever the UK Mesa distributors are. They don't normally keep them in stock although they do have some Mesa stuff. -
