1. This is a 1999 US built fretless Fender Jazz in Sunburst with Rosewood lined fingerboard, side dots on the lines at 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 17, 19, but no dots on the fingerboard itself. At present it's sporting an aftermarket brown tort pickguard from WD Music but I'll include the original white pickguard if the buyer wants it. You can see in the pics that the tort guard is not as perfect a fit as the white guard but no problem with the replacement and certainly no extra screw holes. It's currently strung with D'addario Chrome flats which I guess are about a year old - they've been on the bass since before I got it in a trade with Martthebass late September last year. It's in pretty good condition with just a few minor cosmetic scratches on the front (only visible up close) and a 2mm ding on the lower horn. Pretty close to no buckle rash. It certainly looks not bad for a ten year old bass and the fingerboard looks good. It comes with a near mint C&G Fender vintage style case in black tolex with the plush funky orange fur lining. The bass has now been superseded by my Fender Tony Franklin Precision Fretless that I bought from Water of Tyne and so is surplus to my needs. I'm looking for a cash sale at £450 including postage . It's unlikely I'd be interested in a trade but feel free to offer one as long as you are not offended by rejection. Having said that, any trades that might vaguely attract me are likely to involve one or more Aguilar or Epifani 1x12 cabinets or a Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout 12" 4 ohm combo - so probably not much hope of that anyway. With the white pickguard as photographed by Martthebass - check out the perfect fit at the meeting of the guard and the bell plate: With the tort pickguard and without a polish - the small scratches can be seen near the upper horn and the pickguard: With the tort pickguard and without a polish - check out the slightly less than perfect fit at the meeting of the guard and the bell plate: I can do some more pics after a polish if anyone requires them - as long as I can find the camera!!
 2.
Whenever that happened, I'd take the bass, play two notes, say "nah it's sh*t" and give it straight back.
It's also strange when the assistant starts setting up the eq on both the bass and the amp. How on earth do they think they know what tone you want anyway? Surely they should hand you the bass/amp set pretty much flat. One assistant was having a quick slap before handing me the bass and was boosting all the mid and treble and cutting the bass. I said 'Shall I give you a clue or shall I just set the tone myself?' He says 'Clue? What clue?' and I say 'Old school, Motown'. There's a pause during which he stares at me. Then he hands me the bass and walks off. I'm sure he was thinking 'Why is this old person in a guitar shop without his children?'.
 3.
I now have bloody P GAS
I always have P GAS and I already have two of them.
 4. I sold Clarky a set of D'Addario Chromes. Very smooth - both Clarky and the strings - I recommend you sell him something soon.
 5.
Lubricate your nut.
With a very soft pencil e.g. 4B.
 6.
I like TI flats they seem to sound best after about a year of use. I wouldn't say they go dead with age though, just deep rich & bassy. I've never had to change any in the several years since I've been using them (must be about six years). If I ever want zing I'll take up harpsichord or clavinet.
Agreed. The only time I ever needed to change a TI Jazz Flat was when I broke one.
 7.
WEM?
I never had one myself but I remember playing with a guitarist who used a gold top Les Paul through a WEM 200 watt valve PA amp with a pair of Sound City 4x12s. And of course the PA included a WEM Copicat echo machine.
 8.
HH combo, 1x18 reflex bin (ooh my back) and Peavey amps too.
+1 In the 70s I had at various times a Selmer head, a Laney head, a Hiwatt head, Marshall head, HH head & slave, Fender Bassman, Marshall 4x12, Sound City 4x12, Laney 4x12, Hiwatt 2x15, Electrovoice 1x15 reflex bin, and a few others I can't now recall. I'd say amplification and speakers have improved much more than basses have. EDITED for spelling and other infelicities.
 9. Wineham gig on 18th July is now cancelled due to the venue not having a licence..... Replaced by: Saturday July 18th @ The Constant Service, Isleword Road, Hanover, Brighton - free and on stage at 9.00pm
 10. Well, in the 70s I had at various times a Hofner, a Hayman, a Precision, a Jazz, an Aria, a Gibson.
 11. D'Addario ECB81 Chromes Regular Light .045 .065 .080 .100 Long Scale Unused and unopened. £32.95 at Stringsdirect. Yours for only £22 posted - what a bargain! Paypal preferred. Who wants 'em?
 12. If I bought the Sting version, how much would it cost to get rid of the inlay that says Sting? I've got nothing against him, he's a very good bassist, but I don't think I could put up with his name staring at me from the twelfth fret.
 13.
I just don't like furniture basses
+1 It must have a pickguard even though I never use a pick.
 14. I play exclusively with fingers. Custom built basses don't interest me at all.
 15. Check out the For Sale pages at Talkbass. There have been a few for sale.
 16.
OK not in the UK, though the price quoted by Bass Central here is very good and they are happy to ship to UK: http://www.basscentral.com/lakeland_usa/skyline_decade.shtml
Those are typical US street prices. If you get hit for the tax - which is very likely - the passive with single coils will come in at about £1100 or so and the active with humbuckers (the Bass Central page says single coils but I think the actives are all humbuckers and it looks to have the tap switch) at £1300 or so. It might be worth searching for a used one in the US. A lot were sold very quickly and surely some people will be off-loading them by now.
 17. Lakland Joe Osborn with Chisonic single coils can be heard here. The Decade sound samples are still with the Dark Star pickups. The Decade with the Chisonics will sound darker than the JO due to the neck up pickup being much nearer the neck and the body being mahogany.
 18.
in the uk? i lov to look of hem. what are the sonic chi's like?
I don't think you'll get a Skyline Decade easily in the UK. If I didn't have one already I'd be calling GAK who stock Lakland and do have (in the Brighton shop) the Hollow body with Chisonics in stock. I got mine direct from Lakland as I was one of a group of seven who planned the translucent burgundy finish, the blocked and bound neck, the black headstock etc for what was going to be a Dudepit Limited Edition which fell through but Dan Lakin liked it so much he decided to use our plan for the first run of Skylines and at the same time honoured our fouled up Dudepit deal. I believe that 120+ were made in that first run. Whether there has been a second run I don't know. Later runs may come in different finishes. It is a beautifully finished bass, extremely nice neck which has been plekked. It takes a while to get used to how the bass sits on its strap due to the short upper horn - especially if, like me, you tend to play over the end of the neck. The Chisonics have some characteristics of Fred Hammon's Dark Star pickups - sort of a combination of wide frequency range and yet a kind of darkness at the same time - and so also of the old Hagstrom Bisonics after which the Chisonics are named. The pickups are very sensitive to changes in position and dynamics of your picking. I think the mahogany body adds to the Gibsonesque darkness. The neck pickup is right up against the neck and soloed it has an almost Gibsonesque EBO sound but without the mud - excellent for reggae and all other Jamaican styles. If you add in a little bridge pickup you can sort of approximate a P bass. The bridge pickup can sort of approximate a J bass. In both these cases however it is approximate - the Decade has its own sound. My Chisonics are the single coils but they are available as humbuckers too (with coil taps) and with an active preamp, although I have a passive model. As far as I know, I think it's possible my Skyline Decade is the only one in the UK. It was definitely the first here last November. I do know of one in Holland and one in Spain. If you find one here new it is probably going to cost you £1300 (if not more) - you might think that's a lot for a bass that is partly manufactured in Indonesia even if the electronics and the set up including plekking the neck is done in Chicago - and with the present exchange rates you could reckon on paying about the same amount I think if you were importing it. Lakland have a prototype of a short (30") scale version of the Decade which is likely to go into production if there is enough interest. I've also heard rumours (and they are merely rumours) of sometime in the future a kind of Bass VI Decade: 30" scale, 6 string, like the Fender Bass VI. Short scale USA neck with Skyline body Decade on the right, Pino Palladino's USA Decade on the left: A thread about my Decade with pics is here.
 19. Gary Glitter's I'm The Leader of the Gang didn't go down too well.
 20. Check out my latest band Barabajagal playing blues, folk, country, roots (and anything else we fancy) at the following venues in the next couple of weeks in and around Brighton: Sunday July 12th @ St Andrew's Church, Waterloo Street, Hove onstage at 7.45pm with The Epiphanies at 9.00pm - £5 entrance but all proceeds to St Luke's Infant School and we are really hoping the devil will give back our souls. Wednesday July 15th @ The Ranelagh, St James's Street, Kemptown, Brighton onstage at 9.00pm - Free but you can put some money in a hat and all proceeds to us. Saturday July 18th @ The Royal Oak, Wineham, somewhere in darkest (West) Sussex - Free we think!? And no hat. And we don't know what time either. You can check out Silverfoxnik's inadvertent review of us at the Southwick Beer Festival.
 21.
I just noticed Ibanez has released this, in the fine tradition of bass/guitar hybrids like the Fender VI: http://www.ibanez.co.jp/eu/news/f_products...e/SR7VIISC.html
At the nut, the break angle of the strings looks terrible.
