  1. I don't actually care whether a band is tribute, covers, or so-called originals. All that matters is ... are they any good?
  2. Many years ago I was playing in a 'mostly originals' (for want of a better phrase) blues rock three piece. At one gig - where alongside our own songs we did play rearrangements of a Hendrix song, a Hambone Willie Newbern song, and a Robert Parker song - as we came off stage ... Punter (male, late teens): "Have you always been a tribute band?" Me (male, not late teens): "Tribute band? Why do you say that?" Punter: "You did a Hendrix song." Me: "Er....yeh. What's that got to do with being a tribute band?" Punter: "If you play someone else's song, you're a tribute band." Me: "I don't think so but whatever..." Punter (as I start packing gear): "You were really good for a tribute band." Me: "Thanks." I'm guessing that he was unfamiliar with Hambone Willie Newbern and Robert Parker or we would have been labelled a triple tribute band.
  3. If it was me I would be looking for another band that actually valued my presence.
  4. I have played with a singer who regularly uses a music stand. He was by far the best singer I have worked with. No-one ever came up to me and said 'your singer has a music stand, thats terrible'. Many people came up to me and said 'your singer is fantastic'. Most audience members won't even know what a music stand is.
  5. If it's OK to have frets instead of simply learning where the notes are, then it's OK to have a music stand instead of simply learning what the words are.

  7. For several years I played acoustic bass guitars (first a fretted Michael Kelly Dragonfly 4 and then a fretless Takamine B10) with backline amplification and normal eq and no feedback. Of course if you stand right in front facing the speaker with high volume and without muting the strings then there's a good chance it might feedback but it never happened to me.
  8. アイバニーズ ... or so I am told.
  9. But in Spanish it exactly would have the stress accent and the tilde, as in Salvador Ibáñez.
  10. Shouldn't that be eebányeth? Unless one were in Andalucía, where it would be eebányes.
  11. I can't help myself but when I had a Guild issue I got help here ... http://www.letstalkguild.com/ltg/forum.php
  12. Smoked and Retromatic B2 are both 34" scale.
  13. The Retromatic bass also matched my guitarist's Retromatic guitar ...
  14. I have not played a Peerless Smoked Bass but a bassist in another band we supported a couple of years ago had one and sounded great causing me to buy a Peerless Retromatic B2 like the stock photo below. It's an excellent bass and I imagine the Smoked is also excellent. Peerless have made hollow body guitars and basses for many years including the Epiphone Jack Casady bass and the Epiphone Casino guitar.
  15. I don't use OFPF (except maybe if i get up around fret 7 and beyond); for lower frets I use Simandl. Is this not correct? I don't. I use one finger whenever I can; I only use two fingers if I really have to. Is this not correct?
  16. Fair enough, but for me nothing autoplayed after 'Clergy'. We better have this as well ...
