  1. Woodroffe's in Birmingham used to stock a lot of Kramers, IIRC. Probably the same ones that finished up in Musical Exchange.
  2. I don’t disagree with them, I just have a different experience. I have played lined fretless more than unlined but I still feel happier, more in control and better intonated on unlined. The OP will have to decide for himself.
  3. Having played both, I much prefer unlined. Either way you will still need to use your ears and if you are going to use the lines then you'll be staring at the fingerboard. A quality unlined should have side dots probably at the 'fret positions' 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12 etc. and, if you need to look, they are easier to see than the fingerboard lines would be. Worse still is when a lined fretless has side dots in between the 'fret positions' - that is really very stupid in my view and is worse than no help.
  4. Yes, he looks much better with short hair too. So do not avoid that look.

  6. ... and Ronnie Lanes bass if you're interested:
  7. I know we had this before some years ago but it's worth it again and I always really liked Ronnie Lane's bass playing.
  8. Surely in an anti-gravity situation the strings play themselves? And you don't need a strap.
  9. Ace Kefford ... second half of the bridge ... and a slab 66 Precision ...
  10. What about hanging basses on a strap around the neck and shoulders? Is that OK?
  11. Didn't Gibson do a Les Paul model with an autotuning system, maybe a Jimmy Page Signature? But it never worked properly? Am I imagining this?
  12. Flatwounds will not cure a buzzing fret.
  13. I find it is rare that I have to tune up during a gig.
  14. Saw Hamilton show this afternoon and it was absolutely tremendous. Congratulations to all of you.
  15. Obviously the worst bass player in the world ... or not.
  16. There’s no guarantee that everyone on stage knows without it being disputed, never mind the punters.
  17. I was there too and the world was immensely changed and immensely changing but you don’t need to have been there to understand that. It’s quite possible to grasp the enormity of the changes and something of The Beatles role if it’s approached with an open mind - it has very little to do with what one personally likes. There are people who were there who didn’t or don’t get it; being there is neither necessary nor sufficent. They did many things but The Beatles didn’t invent the electric bass guitar.
