1.
Exactly. Had he been playing with the tone up we would have a better idea.
But I mean they always sound like a P bass to me with typical variances for strings, pick/fingers, etc.
 2. Tech 21 VT Bass almost always on. But I could manage without it too. I rarely use much amp EQ.
 3. You can't tell with any certainty what a bass is going to play like by year of manufacture alone. I had a 1976 P and it seemed fine at the time.
 4.
I did once have a broken rear window in an estate car and when the Autoglass chappie came out to fix it he was full of sympathy and asked if anything was stolen, but I had to explain that the window had been broken from the inside when a less than careful cornering manoeuvre caused a PA cab to tip over against the rear window!
Back in the early 1970s I had an Austin Mini Countryman ... ... and one day when the rear door was pushed shut, my bass in its case pushed one of the rear windows out completely, which I then caught before it hit the floor. Fortunately it pushed back into place without any problem.
 5.
Assuming it is a Slab on the recording, the fabled Slab sound seems to be in the treblier end of the tone - thumb-plucking at the neck with (presumably) the tone turned down is always going to result in a more trad sound.
Just sounded like a P bass to me.
 6. Story has it that bandleader Tommy Dorsey said there were three 'sons of bitches': Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra, and Adolf Hitler.
 7.
Nice! They should make a DJ-Sonic too...
I imagine if you go US, then a DJ-Sonic would be available.
 8.
Erm, I'm no mathematician....
I think you underestimate yourself.
 9.
Depends on what your looking for in a band, friends, music, money? Blue
... and which of those are you looking for Blue?
 10.
Perhaps with an anodised gold scratch plate and gold hardware or is that too much of the Midas touch!
Definitely a step too far.
 11.
...They do it with Tort pickguard as well.
That's an option on the US model but then you can have any colour finish too. No doubt one could get a tort guard for the Skyline version if preferred.
 12. Even in that colour with that fretboard and that pickguard ... they will sell quite a few.
 13.
Hmm not bad. About time they did something new with the Skylines - i'm just not sure about that colour.
Each to their own, of course, but I rather like the colour ... but probably a new pickguard.
 14. Stay with that band for social reasons and join another one too for musical reasons. First date in the diary gets your attention.
 15. Just to be clear, the Roto Top Tapes are not black nylon tapes, they are monel like the Roto Jazz Flats.
 16. I think as usual you have to try them but a cheap but reliable place to start is Rotosound Top Tapes. D'Addario Chromes are slightly more expensive but nowhere near the price of Pyramids or Thomastiks. Son of ET is playing Pyramids in his 'Gypsy Dub' 11-piece big band but I know he'll use Top Tapes when needed.
 17.
But surely the point of those videos is that the child is exhibiting prodigious talent and/or skill on their instrument for somebody of x years - not to make direct comparisons between them and Buddy Rich...?
Except Buddy Rich was a child star, Traps the Drum Wonder, on stage from age 18 months and was among the richest child stars of his time.
 18. Why not change your name to 'A Wake Til Dawn'?
 19.
lol and Donny playin the bass at the same time 😃
I think it's Merrill on bass. Donny is on the keyboard.
