1.
Can anyone tell me what sort of space these things have for controls etc.? Would a darkglass tone capsule preamp fit?
There isn't much space to spare if the Darkglass has more than a volume pot and a tone pot.
 2.

Looks like Mr Burns' jacket is ocean turquoise metallic.

 4. I'd say that's maybe slightly on the low side but if it feels and sounds ok then it's not a problem. With a capo at fret one and string held down at fret thirteen then at fret six expect to have about 0.2mm (0.008 inch), so 0.1mm is not awful at fret one.

 6.
hi everyone. iv been playing bass for about 3 years now and been gigging. im finding it hard to set the eq. im basicly cluless. im getting plenghty of low deep bass but when im playing mid neck on the a and d strings im finding it hard to punch through the rest of the band. what should i adjust. are there any simple articles out there to explain to a clueless non tecknical person. lol thanks
Sometimes it's not specifically your EQ that's at fault. Instead, it's the guitarist or the keyboardist getting into your sonic territory. Mid-neck bass on A and D strings is bottom end of the guitar. Is guitarist playing with a bass loaded sound?
 7. Maple looks worse ( because I prefer rosewood).
 8. Gibson Thunderbird here ... http://youtu.be/KaV9GYPSM94
 9. Downloaded and it works.
 10.
My guess is that La Bella had a different string design back in the 50's.
Very possible.
 11.
You mean you couldn't hear the Slab?
I've tried for ages to come up with a smart arse reply to that comment but I've gone blank.
 12. That's USA I think and the OP was looking for Europe.
 13.
I know what you mean. On some of them it's a must, think my old 52RI was string through only.
Yes, it is slightly odd that the original Precision bass was string through only and came with flats (there were only flats) and yet flats apparently suffer more from string through.
 14. No offence intended and each to their own of course, but I really don't get this at all. To me it looks completely unrealistic and, if I did have a bass in that condition, I would be desperate to get it re-finished or to strip it totally to natural wood.
 15.
Yes, I know. I never had one go snap on me yet (still)
I'm just repeating La Bella's own advice. I don't usually string anything through body as I can't hear or feel any difference. I've never broken a La Bella flat but I have once broken a TI flat and once a Pyramid flat too.
 16.
... Also, will they be alright for thru-body stringing?
Ordinary La Bella flats are NOT for through body eg 760FL.
 17. Acoustic basses need amplifying. There's a reason a double bass is as large as it is.
 18.
Exactly. Had he been playing with the tone up we would have a better idea.
But I mean they always sound like a P bass to me with typical variances for strings, pick/fingers, etc.
 19. Tech 21 VT Bass almost always on. But I could manage without it too. I rarely use much amp EQ.
 20. You can't tell with any certainty what a bass is going to play like by year of manufacture alone. I had a 1976 P and it seemed fine at the time.
 21. Very nice. I like the colour.
 22.
I did once have a broken rear window in an estate car and when the Autoglass chappie came out to fix it he was full of sympathy and asked if anything was stolen, but I had to explain that the window had been broken from the inside when a less than careful cornering manoeuvre caused a PA cab to tip over against the rear window!
Back in the early 1970s I had an Austin Mini Countryman ... ... and one day when the rear door was pushed shut, my bass in its case pushed one of the rear windows out completely, which I then caught before it hit the floor. Fortunately it pushed back into place without any problem.
 23. 'Possibly made from 1 piece of wood.'
 24.
Assuming it is a Slab on the recording, the fabled Slab sound seems to be in the treblier end of the tone - thumb-plucking at the neck with (presumably) the tone turned down is always going to result in a more trad sound.
Just sounded like a P bass to me.
 25. Story has it that bandleader Tommy Dorsey said there were three 'sons of bitches': Buddy Rich, Frank Sinatra, and Adolf Hitler.
