1. You can buy an electronic micrometer for less than a fiver. Even with the same gauges and same make and model of string you will likely need to do a setup. New strings even of same model and gauge are different, they are new. If they are a different make of string and still the same gauge then you are extremely likely to need to do a full setup.
 2. You had to be there ... but it was better if you weren't.
 3.
So to summarise the view and opinions expressed on here:
You forgot that some of us prefer Schubert.
 4.

I much prefer Jaco Pastorius to Stephen Fry.
 5.
+1000... but hey, his gtr work gets him out of that ..
I wouldn't know; he's just not someone on my radar.
 6.
I dare anyone to say that is not a cool look.
That is not a cool look.
 7.
Just wondering whether those that only capture 'aimless noodling' or 'parpy fretless sliding about' think of stuff like this ..? Nothing there, either..? To me, although obviously different instruments, generation and all, the musicality shines through Just wondering...
That was great. I always like a bit of Schubert. I liked it much more than I like Pastorius. I've always preferred Pastorius playing with someone else - such as Joni Mitchell. But liking something or someone (or not liking them) has little or nothing to do with their talent or their influence and clearly Pastorius was a massive presence and a major influence on many people; even sometimes when they didn't know it.
 8. I'm no slapper but, having played a Ripper for a while a long time ago, I see no reason to think you couldn't slap a Gibson if you chose to do so.
 9.
... The OP asked "what is McCartney good at?" ...
The OP actually asked: 'What do you guys think he does well?' But, like you say, we are fans.

 11. Very good. Does the 5-string set still have purple silks?
 12.
I saw The Stones this summer. Buddy Guy opened for them. They were scheduled to start at 9:00. They started promptly at 9:00. 15.
7 is code for jazz bass A is the neck profile (not nut width)
7 was the 1960s code for Jazz Bass but A/B/C/D are nut widths not neck profiles. V/C/U are neck profiles.
There is often confusion between the use of the letters V, C, and U used to describe neck shapes, and the use of the letters A, B, C and D in describing Fender neck widths. During the period of time from the early '60's to the early '70's, Fender used the letters A, B, C, and D to refer specifically to the width of our guitar and bass necks at the nut. These letters were stamped on the butt end of the necks, and had no reference to the shape or contour of the neck. An "A" width was 1 1/2" at the nut, "B" was 1 5/8", "C" was 1 3/4" and "D" was 1 7/8". 18.
I've just realised how hopelessly out of touch I've become
Perhaps you're not out of touch but merely, like me, you have no idea what deathcore is and maybe also have no interest in knowing. Or is it metalcore? I wouldn't know the difference.

 24.
Looks a like well-worn neck!
Maybe a well-sanded neck.
 25.
is that a replacement neck?
A 62 reissue commonly has a 1.75" nut so it may be a replacement ... the listing says:
A rare bass in that the neck is 1/4 inch narrower at the nut than 62 reissue standard - same as the Jazz Bass-could have been a special order which Fender would always accommodate (for a price) or neck swapped at some point. I have only ever seen one other like this. Ideal for Jazz Bass players?
