Electro-acoustic bass - tapewound string options?
EssentialTension replied to Skol303's topic in Accessories and Misc
Very good. Does the 5-string set still have purple silks? -
7 is code for jazz bass A is the neck profile (not nut width)
7 was the 1960s code for Jazz Bass but A/B/C/D are nut widths not neck profiles. V/C/U are neck profiles.
There is often confusion between the use of the letters V, C, and U used to describe neck shapes, and the use of the letters A, B, C and D in describing Fender neck widths. During the period of time from the early '60's to the early '70's, Fender used the letters A, B, C, and D to refer specifically to the width of our guitar and bass necks at the nut. These letters were stamped on the butt end of the necks, and had no reference to the shape or contour of the neck. An "A" width was 1 1/2" at the nut, "B" was 1 5/8", "C" was 1 3/4" and "D" was 1 7/8". Fullerton reissue 62 precision bargain!
EssentialTension replied to chrisanthony1211's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
is that a replacement neck?
A 62 reissue commonly has a 1.75" nut so it may be a replacement ... the listing says:
A rare bass in that the neck is 1/4 inch narrower at the nut than 62 reissue standard - same as the Jazz Bass-could have been a special order which Fender would always accommodate (for a price) or neck swapped at some point. I have only ever seen one other like this. Ideal for Jazz Bass players?
-

If I was putting the bridge cover on then I would keep the BBOT. If I wasn't putting the bridge cover on then I would still keep the BBOT. Anyway, keep everything until you have played it for a while, including gigs. Maybe it won't need any minor upgrades. It's a Precision Bass, it's basic but it works - others may tell you a different story.

You can put any bass guitar strings on an acoustic bass guitar. Whether you like the feel and sound is another matter. I have a Takamine B10 with La Bella 760FS flats. Very nice, IMO. I used to have a Michael Kelly Dragonfly with Thomastik JF344 Jazz Flats. Also very nice, IMO. There are specific bronze acoustic bass guitar strings but, IMO, they sound and feel terrible.
Sorry, but I disagree with this. The law on purchases is very simple and very clear....It says 'Buyer Beware', i.e. it is the buyer's responsibility to check that what they are buying is satisfactory. If the seller misrepresented something about the item that is a totally different situation; but you can't expect the seller to know every last thing about an item, especially if it is something as deeply hidden as a truss rod on a bass. Electro-acoustic bass - tapewound string options?
EssentialTension replied to Skol303's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'm not aware of any black nylon tapewounds that are tapered. They vary in tension but are certainly not particularly tense and I have used them successfully on an acoustic bass guitar. The following all make black nylon tapewounds: La Bella Pyramid GHS Fender D'Addario Rotosound Picato Status ... and probably some others. -
ive been looking at an aria sb 1000 on ebay being sold by CHUYA ONLINE. its brand new and only £865. will have to pay a for it to be delivered from japan but overall it will still be cheap. the cheapest ive seen one in this country is £1900. does anyone know of a reason why its only £865.
You'll also have to pay tax and duty on the price of the bass and the shipping costs. That can be approximately 25%. Therefore, you will likely finish paying around £1200-£1250 in total It's really not good value. And if you were to try to return it you will only recoup the £865.
