1.
Thanks David , I'm thinking of having one installed in a bass , in the same position as the Coronado more or less . There's a SD Basslines 51there at the mo , just wondering if the fidelitron would sound beefier ?
I don't know exactly how they might sound but if I was going to put a Fender Fidelitron pickup in a bass I would first consider the possibility of using a TV Jones Thundertron pickup on which the Fidelitron is based.
 2.
right, but what I don't get is that only some acoustics have this type of bridge, and would it be so difficult to have adjustable saddles on an acoustic?
I guess it's more difficult and costly and so most cheap acoustics have a generally compensated bridge not individual saddles. Some do have individual saddles ... 3. If I was the seller .... (1) If I had known about the truss rod, and I probably would have known because I would have checked it, then I wouldn't have sold the bass without revealing the truss rod problem. (2) If somehow I didn't realise about the truss rod than I would give a full refund.
 4.
The question i was asking is not based on using your full 500w. What i am saying is with manufacturers offering a 200w and 500w versions of same amps at the same size then why would you go for 200w hoping it will be loud enough rather than 500w and cover all bases
I'll take the 200watts. 500watts will hardly be louder, it will be heavier and more expensive. I'm managing to get by nicely on a choice of 100watts, 250watts, or 300 watts.
 5.
... why do some acoustics have that saddle where the B string is further back than the others?
That's explained in the article linked above. The thicker the string core the more compensation is necessary. The plain B is thicker than the core of the wound G, so more compensation. Or something like that anyway.
 6.
That's the fella - thanks ET
The whole of that site is of some interest.
 7.
... bridge compensation calculator ...
http://liutaiomottola.com/formulae/compensation.htm
 8.
I read online that a handy and accurate way to adjust the intonation is to use the open string and the 13th fret, that way your tuner doesn't get confused with which E/A/D/G it is trying to follow. Obviously the 13th should read a half step up from the open string! Seems to work for me, but anyone else tried this?
Well, if one were going to do that it ought to be 1st and 13th frets but I don't see how it would be anything but less advantageous. My tuner doesn't get confused and if it did I'd replace it.
 9. The idea that you need 500 watts for a pub gig seems bizarre to me. What kind of pubs are these?

 11.
Hi, Has anyone had any experience of these Basses . I believe they are designed in UK , and made in China . Bass Direct sell them , and have very good demos on their web site . Make a nice companion for my Lakland and Jazz ! Pete
The guy is a member here. Search 'Chowny' and you'll find several threads.
 12.
That's for the band's liability to someone else.
Exactly, that's why I mentioned it.
 13. Personal liability insurance ... including for when the PA falls on someone and they sue you.
 14. D'Addario, La Bella, GHS, Rotosound, and I expect many others, all do extra long scale strings. They aren't always in the shops but, for example, I bought La Bella 760N EXLs by emailing La Bella and asking for what I wanted.

 16.
surely if the open and 12th fret are right then if any of the others aren't it's a case of the frets not being right, as I've said before it really doesn't matter that much on a bass (unless you're playing chords) nobody's going to notice, I was once chatting to a double bass player and asking him how he managed without frets, his reply was "As long as you're somewhere near it doesn't really matter"
I agree but some people think the frets aren't right ...
 17.
... As a cheeky follow on, when checking / setting intonation, is it best to tune to open & 12th fret or is there some other voodoo?
I just do open and 12th fret. Some people like to do 5th and 17th frets but I haven't got all day.
 18. An upright bass has no saddles for separate strings because your ear is going to sort it out anyway. A fretless bass guitar usually has individual saddles but strictly doesn't need them.
 19.
Slam dunk! I love science!
I love it when my half-educated guess is called science!
 20. The octave harmonic should always be at the half length of the string but once you fret the note the trigonometry alters slightly dependent upon the gauge and construction of the string.
 21.
You then also have GAK in Brighton too, they had a pretty good selection last time I was there.
GAK do have an OK selection, but not quite in the class (or cost) of the Acoustic Music Company - which I think explains the 'Uh oh!' response.
 22. If you want a guitar buy a guitar. I don't see what the problem is.

 24. That's very nice indeed.
 25.
Chris Coleman in my ears is such a fantastic drummer. very clever drumming.
I just listened to that again and, while I am sure he is a very talented drummer, it doesn't hold my interest at all.
