OK - thanks so much for the input everyone! It's really helped.
There doesn't seem to be a clear 'winner' and most agree that both sound comparable.
My fav is Bass 1 - for me it sounds more solid and more snappy/instant with the slap stuff.
You won't believe this but Bass 1 is a £130 short scale Chinese built Richwood (see below)
Bass 2 is my beautiful '97 Warwick Streamer LX (currently for sale) which now sell for £1400 upwards!
Now to be fair, the Richwood has been modified with a Badass II, Dimarzio Pickups and an EMG 2- band eq. But still it seems unreal that the sound would be even close in quality to a bass costing 10 x as much!
You see I really love this Richwood and use it as my main bass, but something was niggling at me saying 'it can't really sound any good, can it?'. I mainly love the bass for it's short scale as my fingers are short.
In conclusion I'd say a lot of folk did warm to the more sophisticated sound of the Warwick, but the Richwood was percieved as a Jazz bass (that's the way I think of it) and a damn good one at that!
I used to sell Richwood Guitars & Basses and the one you are holding was a great bass even in standard form, they came in red with gold fittings too.
Great playing
