1. Neck sounds similar to yours Ike, I do like the J&D, it looks great in blue or green and I may well get another for the set.
2. Ok, neck is very similar ( sorry I can't remember your name cos I'm old ) better finished and nowhere near as sharp. Strings make a big difference too. The pickguard is what it came with, feels as good as a usa one to me. I only unscrewed the pickguard to take the cellophane off so I haven't looked at the routing to see if you loom would fit physically but the bass feels worth the effort. HTH.
3. Yeah Redstriper, pickups are slightly less powerful but they sound more authentic to my ears, ash body is very slightly heavier but it sits easily on my shoulders. Might be a week or so before the other one turns up, I'll keep you posted.
4. Just got back in and it's sold, thanks Karl, PM'd
5. I have reluctantly decided to sell my Jazz bass. It's the best colour and neck combo ever made in my humble opinion. made in 2002 it is in original condition, and is stunning to hold and play, there are no problems with this instrument. Weight is 9lbs 10 oz on my digital scales but it's very well balanced on the strap. Action is low and well set up. There a couple of small marks to report: Where the headstock meets the neck there is a very small scuff on the back. On the bottom edge of the body on the rear you can feel a little roughness in the paint but there's absolutely nothing to see. I disclose everything I see to be perfectly honest and clear. It comes with the shaped case of the day that works just fine. There is the remains of a sticker on the top but it doesn't bother me. The only thing I would be interested in is a mint 50's precision & cash my way. Prefer the Squier version if I'm honest. Price is £675 delivered to UK. **Straplocks will be changed back to standard** Pics: Thanks for looking
6. Peach actually Stunning innit? plays as well as it looks.
7. Yes, I ordered one of these as well but they're out of stock for a few days.
8. I know, thanks John I will. Can't put it down.
9. Well, I just got this at 7.30am, I simply cannot believe the quality of this bass!! The finish is flawless, the neck is as straight as an arrow and there is very little of the sharp fret edges, certainly not enough to make me want to file them down. anyway pics: It arrived with a low action and perfect intonation, can't believe it for 100 quid Pickups are what you expect for Wilkinson jazz, quite punchy and solid, I don't do honk or slap in a church so you'll have to make up your own mind about it. The tone control is very smooth and gradual in operation. Tuners are wilko's as well as is the bridge, both work very well. Weight? It's about 9.5 lbs, it's american ash body. Comes with D'Addario XL strings fer cryin' out loud, Anything I would change? hmm.. Fender sticker maybe? Nah, I'm not a name tart. So overall it's astonishing value for money, I am going to sell some of my 'better' basses now. Buy one today... no buy two!
10. Ok will do a bit of a review when it gets here. All my basses except this one are maple boards, I love them, but I like the bound/inlays look so I'm having a change. A couple of weeks ago I bought a VM P bass new and it's excellent!! I also have a new MIM Precision in white/maple and I think I might sell it. I might also sell my sunset orange maple USA Jazz too if the HB is any good.
11.
Have a word with bagsieblue, he's got a Bass Collection up and he's as easily led astray as the rest of us
oooooh yer bitch (true tho') speak for yourself, stunning bass Mike, have a burp
12. None, I've only been playing 4 years. I look after my gear carefully, it's hard won.
13. I have ordered this, looking forward to getting it, I'll report back next week if there's any interest? http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_jb_75_sb_vintage_serie.htm
14. Did you find out which pickup this is fitted with? Website only says 'alnico'
15.
This may not be the same bass, but...
Stunning, what are the fret edges like?
16.
that's the only vintage modified series of bass I haven't had..the amber and maple is THE best colour combo too. You shouldn't of sold me that Lake Placid and Maple MIMP I bought from you years ago Tom ...only for me to sell last year...I still miss that bass
Get a VM precision, you'll love it. Slight tweaks to suit me and I'm gigging it tomorrow! Love it to bits.
17. Ok well further to my problems, I ended up adding the extra and bought a discounted Squier VM Precision in Amber/maple from them. They gave me £30 off for my trouble too. The P bass is a different level for me, I am a dyed in the wool precision guy anyway. I did recently buy a new MIM P in white/maple and the only difference I can see is the Squier is a bit lighter! To my ears they both sound the same. Sure the MIM feels more solid but that's it. I have 5 basses and they're all maple boards. I like maple. Maple.
