1.
You're definitely describing Gibson sounds there Jamm IMO For example, my 78 ripper. It dishes out a really thick dark sound. Almost too dark, but it comes to life in a mix and really supports the guitars well without getting in the way of the kickdrum. I can't get enough of the old school gibbo tones.
A Ripper will be my next bass for this very reason. I saw Misery Signals, supporting Architects (not into that scene, but mate dragged me along!) anyway, his sound was immense.
2.
You're saying you would say no?
I'm saying i'd say no: Anyway, enough with the superficial judgments, sorry folks.
3.
If we're talking non bass... Pixie Lott please! She is looking for a man after all, how can she resist a slightly older bass player?
Ewww.. dude, her make-up is always 3'' thick, and a tree trunk of a neck.. she might be a nice bird though I shall cease superficial judgement. Really though... all of Golchen's girls are superior. Anyway, i jest.
4. Maybe try sourcing a pair Grado125's, Sennheiser HD25 or push the boat out for Beyer DT-770's (arguably the nicest for bass production) on fleabay? Or, get the Beyer dt-250's, still excellent and in budget
5.
I don't want a bass! Got enough right now. so .....
A man of taste.
6. Guild starfire with darkstars... yum! Maybe get Andy at wizard to see if he can wind to your requirements
7. You see P's, J's and Ricks primarily getting used by all these bands that market themselves as dark and complex, but that really would be tarring them all with the same brush. Really though, i think the darkness of the sound extends a lot further than the bass itself.
8. Ah wonderful, i shall track him down and shoot him a PM!
9.
The Bass Doc ?
Ooh, elaborate?
10. Hey folks, Where do you reckon my best place is to source some original chrome for my '78 P-Bass? Cheers! Jamie
11. What a lovely colour. Looks amazing, i know late 70's Fenders can sometimes be hit/miss, but i'm sure like mines, that beauts a hit!
12. If anyone wants a listen in Edinburgh i'm free on Sunday. My Matamp cab won't be here 'til Monday though. Its a 900W, 4 ohm one... should be loud enough.
13. I am getting mines tomorrow, if dpd are early enough! I think i will be putting it through its paces with fellow BCers. Might conduct a review for y'all.
14. I know there was an OR-80 in Edinburgh for £800... so i imagine that you'd not get much change from 800 to1200 depending on usual factors..
15. I got taught originally to use one finger; i learnt bass guitar from a cellist/double bass player. Then i just started using two fingers myself, without being prompted, because for some applications i couldn't effectively use one finger. My tutor was pleased to see initiative and said that as long as i kept it consistent then there was no reason not. I now usually use I-M-R all the time, but it has taken me the past year to make it sound as consistent as using my index finger on its own. Interesting all the same..
16. How does the payment work out with Jon? I'm guessing he won't need one lump sum, but you could pay him a few hunner a month?
17. Is it just me that thinks that this is actually a really good price?
18. haha - nah, i'm just a pessimist. It was the girlfriend's birthday today, she'd have had my balls in a vice if i phoned today! Tomorrow... its getting done!
19.
FYI TheButler spoken to Jeff about my cab and mentioned that you will be calling, try and do it asap because he's ordering the speakers soon for mine and Umcoo's. Also just specify to him exactly what you are after sound wise as I have the Standard model and Monz has a tweaked version. Cheers
I don't reckon he'll be able top do one before the 10th, so i might have to leave it for now
20.
I went to the Matamp factory this afternoon. Jeff said mine will be ready either Thursday or Friday and I'm picking it up on Sunday, so you'll probably see mine Ste when you go. Butler, Jeff mentioned about building 4 or 5 2x12's as they're getting pretty popular and wanted one for the amp room.
I'm going to phone him tomorrow.
21.
Ok Cab has left the building but we managed to get measurements before it left. 30kgs h74cm x w56cm x d37cm How this includes the skids on the bottom and the handles on the side which are partly recessed but curved so stick out a tiny bit. I've now ordered my new red one hopefully be ready for Saturday when I'll get my red headcase made as well. Cheers guys
Think i might as well do as you suggested, and just order from the factory, so i can get something to my exact spec anyway IF i ordered on Monday, you reckon they could get it done and delivered by the 10th?
22. Need this shifted people so lets say £100 all in. Might negotiate, just need the cash.
23. I've had crap both, can't say there is any correlation between gender and sound engineer goodness.
24. PM'd too... do want!
25. I had a gig in Kilmarnock last month. Turn up, get told that they've not got time to put our headlining set on and promptly handed us £100. Not much, but it was a gig that wouldn't have paid us anyway, so i was chuffed.
