1. Thanks bass ferret for clearing that up :)

I'm not at all interested in Markbass cabs, tried them - didn't like them, just my opinion don't burn me. :rolleyes:

I think i've settled on the Berg cabs, AE210 and 112 - they 'seem' light enough, heres hoping the weight adevertised is in fact the actual weight and not something of myth.

I'm still really interested in the Rebelhead - it is a case of weighing that up against the Markbass offerings in particular. The Ashdown Superfly 1000 seems good value for money but i've never been a BIG Ashdown fan (although they do make some awesome gear i have no doubt) but of what i've tried it isn't my game. If i recall correctly the superflys weren't too great - correct me if i am wrong please. :D

Anyhow, it shall be about may/june when money is released from a bond, so i have time to 'weight' things up ;)

Cheers for the help!
Jamie

2. I've decided that i'll get some lightweight cabs too, i was given a reminder of my bad back today when i did some lifting :) I've been casting my eye over those Berg AE cabs - they sure seem mighty fine. I'll continue my search, think i know where i'm going now chaps, cheers for the help :rolleyes:

I have a budget of about £1500-£2000 btw, won't be buying for another month or two. :D

3. I've recently just got back into playing the ol' bass - after being out of the whole scene for a year or so. Anyway, i've recently sold everything, so i can buy up some new gear and reignite my interest! :)

So, some of you might have noticed i sold my H&K BB600 recently and my cab - hence i'll be needing something to replace them with. However, due to personal circumstances it doesn't look like i'll be having much free time to scout around the, rather mediocre, shops we have in Edinburgh/Glasgow to find something i like the sound of. I realise my ears are the best judge for the sound that I am looking for, but bearing in mind the amount of stuff i can try out is really limited, i'm after some opinions from the finely tuned lugs of fellow BC'ers, and hopefully some educated opinions! :rolleyes:

I play 'post-rock', but i dabble in a bit of everything and because i'm still relatively young, i'm still finding my feet in terms of what i like to play. So, with that in mind i'd really be looking for something with a fair bit of versatility. Due to a bad back i couldn't be getting anything too heavy (in terms of amp) either; I couldn't walk the day after i took my BassBase to the parcel depot! I like the modularity of the below rig that i'm considering.

Thus far i've been looking at Little Mark II's and perhaps coupling that with an Aguilar DS210 and a 112? It seems to tick the boxes in terms of theoretical specs that i can read off of the relevant manufacture's site, but i'm needing some empirical evidence; how would it be in a real world situation?

Cheers for any help chaps!

4. Hmmm... do i want my old amp back..? :)

I don't, but i do miss it! Needless to say i'm back on the market, looking for something different though, prolly a GK haha. I'm just going to add my word, this really is an awesome amp and if you're wanting that mellow tone, then you'd be hard pushed to find something better than this for the price! :rolleyes:

I thought it would only be the correct thing to do (reply that is) seen as Warwickhunt (who owned this before me) has already posted in here :D

Good luck with the sale!

Jamie

5. Hey folks,

In my desperate attempts to scrape together some cash, i'm selling this rather nifty piece of kit. Here is the gen that i ripped off of the web:

Allows you to convert your old vinyl collection directly to CD or MP3 with the included recording software (Audacity). (no special drivers needed)
* The ION USB turntable includes quick and simple EZ Ripper software for PC only and advanced audacity software for both Mac/PC recording.
* Switchable phono/line level output for connecting to any home stereo with phone, CD or auxiliary (AUX) inputs.
* Compatible with any software that supports USB audio input sound cards. (I've used it in Adobe Audition 3 and Ableton!)
* Cartridge with stylus 45 adapter.
* 33 1/3 and 45 RPM.
* Software allows for 78 RPM conversion.
* Adjustable anti-skating control for increased stereo balancing.
* High speed vinyl recording.
* Line level RCA outputs.
* 1/8in stereo line input so you can digitize music from cassettes or other sources.
* Dust cover.
* Computer requirements: PC running Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista. Mac running OS9 or greater, one available USB1.1 port.
* Size (H)18 (W)45 (D)36cm.

It may come as a surprise to some of you that the quality of this is actually rather good, i made some pretty good recordings of old Tim Buckley records that i wanted to put on my ipod. I ran them through some processors in Audition and they sound really good.

Anyway, this is virtually new, it is in it's box. I used it to rip a few vinyls and then realised, i didn't have any more worth ripping haha - so here it is. I bought this 6 months ago for about £85 i think, but i'll let it go for £40 all in.

Cheers,
Jamie

6. Hey folks,

I bought these about a year ago, but hardly used them. Really great sound though (they receive great reviews) they're just surplus to my requirements now.

I bought them for about £80 or £90, i can't remember tbh. I just googled them, and got some info:

The main features of the M-Audio StudioPro 3 monitors include:

Affordable two-way desktop reference monitor system with studio-grade sound quality in a portable package
3.25 inch low-frequency drivers; 1inch high-frequency drivers
Self-powered
Remarkably accurate frequency response and imaging
Advanced crossover design
Custom-tuned wood cabinet
Magnetic shielding prevents computer/video monitor interference
Vented port design for added bass
Transportable, compact design is ergonomic and flexible
Internal standing wave acoustic absorption for greater efficiency
Bass Boost switch
Factory programmed for worldwide use
RCA rear-panel inputs; convenient front-panel 1/8 inch (3.5mm) inputs
Includes directional stands to optimize listening “sweet spot”
Frequency Response: 100Hz - 20kHz (+/- 3 dB)
Dynamic Range (Maximum Signal-to-Noise Ratio): >80dB (typical, A-weighted)
Crossover frequency: 2.3kHz
Input impedance: 10K Ohms unbalanced
Input connectors: left and right line input connectors (RCA)
Protection: RF interference, output current limiting, over temperature, turn on/off transient, subsonic filter
Indicator: blue power LED ring around on/off/volume knob on front panel
Power Requirements: 100-120V~50/60Hz, 220~240V~50/60Hz; powered via detachable 2-conductor line cord
Cabinet: vinyl-laminated MDF
Size: 7.9 x 5.5 x 5.9 inches
Weight: 8.8 lbs./pair (approx., without packing)

Anyway, in the same google search i found one place selling them for £67 excl. postage. With that i think £40 all in isn't a bad deal :)

Cheers,
Jamie

7. Hey folks,

Well, i've had this thing sitting about for a while now. It is an old ARP Quartet, otherwise known as a Siel Orchestra made in 1979. These things were used by Massive Attack and 808 state (according to VSI)

Anyway, this one has seen better days. The ends will need replaced because the chip board got knackered in transit. One of the keys is cracked, on the surface, but still functions. A couple of the sliders aren't working (master volume and decay/release), despite that i've had sound come out of this thing, so it does work! - but you'll have to fix the slider in order for it to actually be properly playable/giggable. The other sliders and buttons are all functioning, if a bit sticky. Its not a great synth in all honesty and in this condition it certainly isn't worth much. The string sounds are lovely, but that is about it for my taste anyway.

I'll let it go for £40 picked up in Edinburgh. I might take the notion to repair it and maybe mod it here and there, would be quite a cool string machine.

Cheers for looking,
Jamie

8. I'll sell this now, £400 collected in Edinburgh. Or i reckon i could maybe ship it fully insured via courier for around £25. I'm needing the money to invest in another bass, think i'll make a return to 6 string for a wee while. So i'll take trades/Part-ex (with money added by me up to £200) for a six string.
