Aha! Had a skim through and it looks more like the kind of thing I'm trying to do - I think some more experimentation is called for Thanks for the links Ta, Ian

Thanks for the input Lurksalot. TBH as you've pointed out, it's not very elegant and seems to be a bit of a faff. I'm sure there must be an easier way of implementing the routing via the Reaper crossover plug-ins - I just haven't found out how. That would be my preferred option rather than trying to copy and process the audio tracks separately. I'll keep plugging away and see how I get on. If in the meantime anyone else chimes in....... Ta muchly, Ian

Hi guys This is a question for all the Reaper gurus out there. Setup: Toshiba laptop running Win 8 64bit, interface is an M-Audio Fast Track Pro with latest firmware and drivers. Reaper running 64bit version with latest version (v4.581). I'm using inputs 1 and 2 into the DAW, outputs 3 and 4 as my main pair, output 1 and 2 as my dedicated re-amp channels as the interface only has balanced outs on 1 and 2. The issue: I'm recording some basic noodle tracks to test my re-amp box. I have two tracks, lets call them A and B. Track A is clean direct from bass via tuner, track B is from the Sansamp DI. What I'd like to do is do some multi-band processing on both tracks before sending the mix out for further re-amping. Specifically, what I'd like to achieve is run both tracks through a separate two-band crossover each, mix both low bands into one track (say track C), and the high band of track A into another track (D). I can then route tracks C and D to my re-amp box and play around with some outboard effects like fuzz, delays and chorus before re-recording the result. If anyone can help with the Reaper plug-ins that would be fantastic, as I'm struggling with the routing options within the DAW. Thanks in advance, Bottle

Hi Chaps Been very fortunate to have a very understanding wife who supports my hobby <3 She got me the chorus pedal I'd been GAS'ing for a while (Boss CEB-3) and has now come up trumps with my latest acquisition - a Palmer D'Accapo re-amping box got them both from Amazon and the Palmer was a bargain at only £60! Can't grumble with that! We recently bought a new laptop to replace my ageing Toshiba and her Dell (we got another Toshiba, built like a tank), which comes with Windows 8 64-bit. Not entirely happy with the OS as it seems to want to update every single time we turn it on! Another issue I've been having up until last weekend was the lack of suitable drivers for my old M-Audio FTP. Not willing to bin it and get something newer, I have perseverd and apparently I'm not the only person to be upset with Avid finally found the latest drivers (v6.1.10) here: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Download/Fast-Track-Pro-Drivers At the same time I got the latest stable ASIO drivers for 64-bit OS's here: http://www.asio4all.com/ and Reaper v4.402 here: http://www.reaper.fm/download.php Must say Reaper runs very well on the Tosh - its got 6GB of RAM to play with but TBH haven't pushed it in the extreme yet. Maybe the mix comp is just the thing to see if I can push it to its limits. Another addition on the laptop is the HDMI out which lets me run the 24" TV as a second display - handy for stacking all the lanes on it. Anyway hope this has been helpful ATB, Bottle

Hey guys, Not normally a lurker on the effects side of the forum but I've been adding pedals to my gear list recently and I fancy having a go at building some DIY stuff. My first foray into pedal building was a Woolly Mammoth clone which wasn't my cup of tea really. I've currently got (in order) a Bass Big Muff Pi, Boss CEB-3, into a SansAmp Paradriver. What I'm looking for is a small overdrive to sit at the front of the chain to bump up the level into the Muff, as I have found that OD into fuzz works much better than fuzz into OD. Ditched my ODB-3 as that was waaay too 'fizzy', if you understand what I mean by that. The Paradriver is there for DI and tone shaping with just the merest hint of drive going on. So, I'm looking for a schematic for a one-knob OD that is bass-friendly and will fit into a Hammond 1590A enclosure (yep, the really tiny micro pedal-sized one ). I have heard good things about the Earthquaker Devices Speaker Cranker and would like to emulate something like that on bass, but smaller too..... Just wondering if I've bitten off more than I can chew? Ta muchly, Bottle
I would also be interested in finding out about the mods necessary. I might be looking at getting the VT 1000. Also, what is it about the amps that makes them fail to comply with RoHS?
My guess is the manufacturing process, particularly the PCBs, likely still uses leaded solder. It's been outlawed in the EU since 2006. I'm willing to stand corrected, although I'm surprised that a company of Tech21's standing, particularly with their pedals etc does not already have a RoHS process in place. HTH, Ian
One thing to point out - when you have a very complex setup like that, you can often find yourself twiddling the knobs trying to find the hidden sound that justifies all the complex wiring, which stops you trying any simpler options which may sound better.
Indeed, and I went through the whole process myself last year with the multi-channel amp rack idea I had here Nice on paper, bugger to shift around in practice (my EBS cabs were 41 and 26 Kgs). Gave up when I moved to the flat, no room for it all, so I sold a lot of the gear. and I'm happier for it too! My back thanks me in particular. Obviously, Charic's "problem" could be solved by the KISS priciple (keep it simple, stupid!). I'm leaning towards having a single channel of effects and picking out the best quality pedal for each task - might even find that an M9 multi-FX pedal does the whole shebang etc YMMV Ian
Could be the shortest marriage on record if you try to come to the Bash, Ian?
Yup I've decided to err on the side of caution, so I'm missing out this one chaps Better luck next year I guess! Ian
Wahey! I've got a vote for Genius!
That were me fella (I also ticked 'Insane' hehehe)

A wise man once remarked "The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success"[sup] *[/sup] Give it a go - I'd only say a word or two about phase differences between channels. How about running them to separate amps / channels rather than blending? HTH, Ian * OK, so I pinched that from a James Bond movie, but, hey, it ticks two of the boxes hehehe

Anyone tried a 5string and not like them? And why?
Bottle replied to Marvin's topic in General Discussion
I dabbled with a 5'er about three or four years ago. Bought an Ibanez ATK 5-stringer off of a member on here. TBH it was a great, well-built bass and once I got new strings on it and a good setup, it really shone, but guess I hadn't taken long enough to get used to it, 'cos I moved it on after having it for a year. I thinkl the neck was too wide and baseball bat shaped for my liking and dinky fingers. I've also dabbled in lower and dropped tunings on a four-string (DADG, DGCF, BEAD and ADGC) and never really got to grips with them. I guess if I was looking for the lower notes of a 5'er but the convenience, feel and size of a 4'er, I'd just go back to a BEAD tuning on a 21/24-fret neck. I'm leaning that way for my next bass project - I like the feel of a slim Jazz neck and the tonal range of the twin pickups. Ian -
Oh buggeration! I'm on my way back from my honeymoon that weekend - we're literally passing the door on our way back up the M4/M25. D'yer think my new missus will mind me popping in for a few hours? Might need to do some explaining as to why there's a bass and amp in the car on the way down This will be the second Bash I've missed - last year it was my sister's turn to tie the knot that weekend All the best Ian
Well I've made my first attempt at a sale on here recently and although there are no takers it's going quite well. I've had advice on pricing without drama, i've found out some more about my bass and some very friendly discussions with interested parties. Absolutely no low-ball offers even though i've been trying to encourage it. What's going on?!?
Just a matter of TIM and you'll get them flooding in....... (ducks, grabs coat and heads for the exit, stage left ) Good luck with the sale, Ian

I can sympathise. I've had some stuff for sale here for months, and nothings really moving. Had a couple of newbies PM me regarding some bits and bobs and then radio silence from them. TBH if I see someone has only just joined I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, but I'm always wary. Having said that, I was a newbie once and didn't get the hang of buying and selling straight away, and learning to use the Feedback forum. In fact I only joined the forum to buy a five-string Ibanez from a guy in London I've generally had good experiences dealing with fellow basschatters, both when buying and selling. I wouldn't let a few bad apples spoil the rest of the community. There you go Ian
Personally i'm not a fan of netbooks for anything, i'd prefer a lower end notebook over a netbook any day, but disregarding all that, don't get an Acer Aspire netbook, we've got 20 here at work and they're the worst things i've ever used. My dad had a Zoostorm (can't remember the specific model) which wasn't bad at all, although for running anything like Reaper i'm not too sure, especially on the tiny screen. All IMO of course. Liam
Liam All good points - I've kinda gone off the idea of a Netbook, after seeing reviews for the Asus etc - the HP seems to be OK for the money, so my fiancee may get one as a wedding present I'm leaning towards one of the low-end Toshiba notebooks for about £350, that will be considerably better than my current Tosh (six years old running WinXp SP3). Thanks for the input, it's helped clear some things up! Ian

Yep, I got kicked off yesterday when using FF6 - reported basschat.co.uk as a suspicious attack site I've been coming here for ages and apart from some heated conversations, no-one's attacked me hehehehe Glad it's sorted Ian

Behringer BDI-21 or equivalent Sansamp BDDI pedal as preamp running off of it's internal 9v battery (fresh one, obviously)? Wonder if there's a PA amp that'll run off 12v i.e car tannoy type arrangement. IIRC I used to have a 20w mobile PA amplifier that would run into 4, 8 or 16Ohms or 100v line systems, that I got cheap from Tandy's as they were. HTH, Ian

Hi chaps I've been using Reaper on and off for the last couple of years (yes, I bought a licence too hehehe). Currently have two machines - an old desktop Athlon 1.6GHz machine and my trusty old Toshiba Satellite A20, which is now a bit long in the tooth and in urgent need of some TLC to keep it going. My fiance and I have recently started looking at getting a replacement laptop (her Dell is dying as well), and were considering a Netbook of some description (maybe a pair so we could each have one hehehe) One of the things I would love to be able to do is set up my M-Audio Fast-Track Pro again and use Reaper to noodle some song ideas on etc - only a couple of tracks at a time - my clean bass and an effected channel too. I might also use my iPod to play along to, i.e. iTunes + bass through the M-Audio. What things should I be looking for - the specs will be lower than my Tosh but will Reaper run reliably on say the current HP offerings? Anybody had any luck getting something like this going? I'm looking into something that could potentially sit in my gigbag for those instances when I want to jot something down or play along to a track etc. Ta, Ian
