That looks extremely comprehensive! Many thanks!!!

Starting a woodworking class next month so I'm going to build a new bass (body-only since I will only have eight weeks of classes). Will likely go for a MM pup with maybe a Jazz in the bridge position with a three-way switch on the control plate. L:eabing towards a Tele style plate with just a jack, vol pot and the three-way selector, just to make it as minimalist as possible I'm hoping to source the rest of the parts on BC or online - can anyone give me recommendations for a good UK-based supplier of bass related parts? I can get the wood from a couple of local vendors - thinking swamp ash for the body core then a cap with a contrast veneer underneath, depending on what the wood guy has in stock. Neck will be brought in ready-fretted. Stay tuned! Ian

I've been hearing good things about the latest Neunaber pedal, the "Immerse" I've got a Mr Black Eterna Gold and I'm really chuffed with that too, if you like the sound of a shimmer on top of the reverb tails. And it goes on forever.....ever...ever...... Stick a bit of delay on before the reverb for some epic long tails (or after, YMMV)

Cool, glad you got it sorted!

Lookin' good, ace! Re: PowerConns. Never used them myself. IIRC they come in two flavours - Inlet and Outlet. One is blue and the other grey (not sure which is which, only that you have to specify the right one when ordering etc). Seem to recall they use the same size cutout as the Speakon and XLR bulkhead sockets. I can understand the appeal of locking mains connectors but I've always opted for a standard IEC - more likely to have a spare at a venue should you mislay/forget the power cord and also I'm not a big fan of a locking connector on a lead where if someone tripped over it, they'd pull your amp down with them. Anyway, great build thread Ian

The SansAmp is quite scooped in the mids. You could try boosting the mids and shifting the mid centre freq. a bit as well. Also turn down the drive or dial in the blend to 100% dry

I used to have one going through an EBS Proline 4x10 or a 1x15 depending on my mood. Very classy amps. Kinda wish I'd still hung on to it but there you go! Good luck with the gigs
-
Oh, that's very purty I've always wanted to have an Ampeg fridge to do just that. Bottom 4x10 being run from a pre/power combo for all the tasty clean bottom end and the top 4x10 run through some effects pedals and a good ol'fashioned valve amp. That would be my GAS rig..... I have everything except the fridge hehehe
A dremel would probably do it, but I tend to go with hand tools first. If I ever do more than one-offs, I'd fork out for a proper rectangular chassis punch. The round ones I picked up for the valve sockets were a joy to use, compared to trying to drill the same size hole cleanly and then get rid of the burr.
Yep, a rectangular chassis punch is the way to go (no faffing with the chamfered corners then). If you are intending making lots and lots of chassis (i.e more than five or ten) see if it's quicker to get a local metalworkers to quote you for a job lot of completed metalwork. It needn't cost a packet as it's mostly regular holes, cutouts and 90[sup]o[/sup] bends.
Nice work. The iec power connector doesn't look too bad considering I bet it's a right pain in the arse to do. Is there not a way these can be cut out with a dremel and small cutting wheel?
Hole punch would be neater. Laser cut the neatest. For a one-off though a bit of elbow grease is the quickest

Firstly, wow, nice lead dress! Secondly, I did a valve amp build last year here so I wouldn't worry about a guitar amp build in a bass forum my kit was bought from Amp Maker and is a 4W Fender Tweed Champ clone. Sounds amazing Good luck with the rest of the build. Shall be keeping an eye on this thread with interest! ATB, Ian

Loading the car up as we speak (well, enjoying a cuppa first and looking out the window at the car, which needs loading up ) See you all there soon!

I sometimes use an 8 Ohm 1x12 PA cab Yes, really
I've just taken delivery of this Handbox 400 and will be bringing it along for Bass Chatters to road test. So far, I've only played it at neigbour friendly volume, so I'm really looking forward to Sunday, when we can give it a proper blast I'll have it hooked up to my Barefaced Big Baby 2 but if any of you would like to try it with your own cabs, then please bring them along. TC Electronic BH550 with GK NEO112's via Speakon Splitter ?
Bottle replied to bassman985's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi all, I believe this is my first post though ive been a stalker for a while. I have a new TC BH550 head and wish to use it with my 2x (8ohm) GK NEO112's. However, the TC head and the GK cabs both only have 1 connector. Thus i cant use one lead per speaker, nor indeed feed one cab to the other. In a bid to not have to sell the GK Cabs and buy something else, i struck upon the idea of a splitter as per a box: https://www.amazon.c...r/dp/B00NWFIMTG or a lead: https://www.amazon.c...V4BM5PJT0WJCDY. The box seems to be a better long term bet for gigging. I know all the impedance sums add up etc so in my head it should work no problem. Can someone confirm my thinking please?! Or has anyone done anything similar with unexpected results?! thanks in advance
Hi there Bassman985 (and welcome officially to the forum!) The products you linked to will do the job, no worries, but it's an expensive way to solve the problem, as you will still need to purchase the Speakon-Speakon cables to go with them. An alternative suggestion if you have the necessary tools would be to make a suitable cable yourself using the Neutrik plugs (they're about a fiver each, part no. NL4FC - beware cheap Chinese copies and the like) and some thick cable (use 2.5mm[sup]2[/sup] or 4mm[sup]2[/sup] flex). Wiring will be 1+ to 1+ and 1- to 1- on all three plugs. Or you could give forum user 'OBBM' a shout as he does custom cables and splitters like this and specify the length you need. Hope that this helps! Best regards, Ian -
Flipping heck! I had no idea it was so complicated:) Thanks for the reply's guys that's great I shall start YouTube'ing the pedals etc you mention This is a new area of discovery for me

It doesn't really have to be complicated. You can make it as simple or complicated as you want. Have a look at The Chords of Orion videos. Bill Vincel makes some very creative use of simple delay pedals to get lovely big ambient sounds.
Agreed. I've just made it that way
-
Second that. To get a really nice ambient swell, you'll need at least one delay and one reverb pedal. Having a couple of delay pedals in series helps as they 'cascade' into one another. Options like TC Triple Delay, Flashback and Hall of Fame, Strymon Timeline and Bigsky, Digitech Polara and Obscura, MXR Carbon Copy etc My current ambient swells setup on my second pedalboard goes through a Boss CEB3 Chorus then a stereo split through a Digitech Obscura, Mr Black Eterna Gold and a TC Flashback delay then out in stereo. It sound huuuuuge through a three-amp setup (centre dry amp and stereo delays) The world, as they say, is your oyster
Hi, All I know I will be an out-of-region interloper, but I'll be at the bash too I have agreed with Mick to bring along his 'mystery bass rebuild' per the ongoing build thread here Mick knows it's a very long shot that it will be finished by then but I will be able to:

meet him (and y'all) in person
pass it over if it's actually finished
let him drool and then cruelly whisk it away again if it isn't
I'll also bring along my bubinga fretless and my avatar veneered Squier VM Jaguar. Everyone will be welcome to play them - but just don't ask me to...it would be a dreadful end of a perfectly decent bash Look forward to seeing you all there Andy
Awesome Andy Having seen said offerings at the Midlands Bash I can safely say we're all in for a treat!
'The Bends' and 'OK Computer' are simply stunning. I need to spend more time listening to their later output, but I really liked 'Kid A'. They are extremely original, and quite dark/mysterious, which is interesting in a rather bland and over saturated market.
Kinda sums up my Radiohead journey. Got into 'The Bends' back in the mid-1990's just before 'OK Computer' came out (1997 IIRC). It captured the zeitgeist just when I was going to university and getting into live music.

Addendum! Just so I'm not the only one with a less-than-four-string bass: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgRLLqYQh1Q Also for those with small pedalboards or just starting out, these two may help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMLsTqkZ3Xo and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYt6PRdmRzs

Fantastic day to catch up with new peeps and noodle on other basses not helping my GAS much Many thanks to Si600 for organising the bash! See you all next year I hope
-
Looking forward to this. See you all there tomorrow!

Yep, had it earlier this year. Sucks the big one. Was prescribed a gel to help, but mostly advised just resting the elbow and not playing at all for a couple of months. Can manage a lesson every two weeks and playing about once a month so far. Just twinges occasionally so not so bad now. Best of luck!
