Cool stuff!! I got my Para-driver last year - works a treat to feed my power-amp with some grit (I'm running tri-amped this weekend - the grit will be handled by a pair of 12" cabs). Glad to see yours is working out the way you intended. I've found some useful YouTube clips of it in action - it's perfectly OK to use on guitar as well (might use it on acoustic as well to warm things up a bit - if I'm on PA it sometimes can sound a little 'sterile' and crisp, OK if you're after that tone, but sometimes handy to mix a little warmth into a spare channel on the mixing desk and go from there) Good luck when it comes to gigging - I've been very happy with mine in a live setting - range of tone available is phenomenal HTH, Ian

Went to a Jazz-Funk jam in Cambridge last night with some friends - got to have a noodle on the bass players Musicman, sweeeet!! And she can play - awesome stuff Ian
I've managed to rearrange things so I'll be there for a few hours from the start. I'll bring the Warwicks. I won't be bringing the POD X3 LIVE but if anyone's thinking of taking the plunge with one of these and want to know the pros and cons, how they work and how to use them in the studio and on stage, find me and I'll be more than happy to talk Looking forward!
Great stuff Nigel. Be good to catch up again. See ya there! Ian PS BTW very happy with the SansAmp - it'll be coming with me on Sunday as part of my bass rig o' doom!! PPS Couldn't give a monkeys' right testicle about the Footie, Wimbledon, cricket, Grand Prix or any other sporting event - I'm coming to play bass and chat with BC'ers

Our church has a mid-sized PA setup (we have to set-up and tear down after every service - we're renting space in a school). A pair of EV Sx-300's and a couple of Peavey active wedges. Mixing Desk and IEM Tx's have their own roll-on flightcase. Amp has its own smaller flightcase which also houses the rack DI, wireless mic receivers etc. There's enough free space to get all of the stage XLR patch cables and Speakon leads to fit in there. Microphone cables go in a square plastic storage bin, microphones go back in their padded bags and into the same box. I quite like the idea of the circular cymbal bag for the longer XLR's - I'm forever trying to stop them from getting tangled (I blame those pesky Cornish Cable Pixies ). We have a small aluminium case that has all the IEM receivers + earbuds. Multicore stage snake gets coiled back up and put back into its box. Then everything gets stacked on top of the mixer flightcase and trundled to the lift. We used to have everything in separate plastic boxes, but they didn't stand up to being used every week. HTH, Ian

Still coming!!! And I'm bringing my heavy-duty rig (I'm gigging with it Friday evening and Saturday lunchtime, so it'll already be in the car - fantastic!!) Bass-wise, will be bringing both the Squier and the Ibby - it's now been modded with a series / parallel switch (check my siggie for the build diary link) Feel free to have a noodle on the basses or the rig - if anyone is bringing an 8x10, 2x12, 4x12 or a 2x15 (or any other 4-Ohm cab), I'd like to attach it to my rig for some real gritty low-end). Is there an award for 'Most Obviously OTT bass rig??'. If not, I intend to start one with this rig See ya on Sunday - gonna be epic. Ian PS BTW, I'm happy for any surplus cash on the day to be donated to a local charity (and maybe some directed to BC as well)

Fantastic!!! I've also got the EBS 4x10 - it's certainly got some balls to it. Have an outdoor gig next week with little PA support, so I'm going to need the full stack - that is: EBS Proline 4x10, EBS Proline 1x15, both running clean, and a pair of 12" PA tops running the grit. Based on how well this goes, I'm thinking of replacing the 12" cabs with a Barefaced Super Twelve (T). In the words of the protagonist from 'Law Abiding Citizen' - "It's going to be biblical...." (and yes, it's a church-organised event, too) Hoping this little lot will shift some air.....I've had it running in my front room at very low volume - sounded immense, so I'm sure it will crank up well. Even the 4x10 is loud enough on it's own to keep up with our drummer. I'm only pushing 500w into the 4x10 - the limit of what the GK head can do. Anyway, have fun with the cab - sounds like a match made in heaven!! HTH, Ian
I.D. Previous bashes have gone with a sign-in sheet & sticky labels with all writing on - seems to work.
I quite like this idea - worked for the SE Bass Bash last year (in fact I still have the sticker on my trolley - kinda like an 'I was there' thing)

Hi all! @ TankJon - TBH it's only the jack socket wiring that's a little longer than the rest, and it's all within the cavity. The pickup wiring is all screened anyway, so shouldn't be a problem - I've certainly not noticed any issues yet - got gigged Friday night in anger (first time I've played it since getter the Squier) @ 7String - the plastic cover already has a foil lining - I've just redone inside the cavity up to the point where the lid makes contact. Well, thanks for taking the time to have a look at the process - I'm happy with the results, both aesthetically and musically: there is a definite boost to the mids when switched in series, as well as an overall bump in output, so I'm well chuffed with the result. Maybe I'll get some sound-clips posted up once I've pushed it a little through the full stack...... HTH, Ian
-
Done!!!! Phew, that was an interesting time - made a few minor mistakes, but it's all gone together OK. Here's the rest of the process Enjoy!!! Now to tune up and test it out. I'll record some clips once it's all tidied up Ian

Good stuff!! Today I have been mostly: shielding the control cavity - lined it with copper tape. Done the pickup routes as well. Wiring will go in last. Drilled the pilot hole - am happy with the location so will drill out to diameter once the switch arrives. Might be changing the knobs for knurled aluminium - the cheap plastic ones on there at the moment are a bit flimsy. All-in-all a productive afternoon Photo's of progress to follow Ian

Started a build thread here
-
Taking down the bass - bit by bit: Tasks: (1) Remove strings, neck and bridge (2) Remove Pickups (3) Remove controls + knobs + jack socket Then it gets interesting: (4) Mark out and drill pilot hole for S1-style toggle switch (DPDT) (5) Drill out hole and check alignment of switch (6) Redo control cavity shielding + pickup routes grounded back to CC. Redo bridge ground. (7) Re-fit pots + jack (8) Re-fit Pickups and complete/tidy up CC wiring. Give the bass body a once over to clean etc. (9) Stick the neck back on, re-string etc. Photo's of build progress & wiring diagram attached Hope this is interesting to anyone Ian

So, I've had my trusty Ibanez GSR-180 in a nice black n' burst for a couple of years now - it's a cracking bass for the money. Recently, I've benched it in favour of my Squier Precision Special, but I'm looking to resurrect my interest in the Ibby - thinking about popping the back cover off and having a look-see inside. For those who aren't familiar it's an entry-level Jazz bass-a-like - twin pickups, V/V/T and all-passive. My thoughts so far are to maybe stick an on-board pre inside - looks like plenty of room for a battery, or as an alternative mod it to include a series/parallel switch much in the same vein as the Fender S1 switch on the Jazz - any opinions? I'll try and grab some piccies of the inside of the control cavity tonight. Ta muchly, Ian
I know I'm (hopefully) already on the "Midget T" tour but can I stick my name down for this one too? As you know, I have one of the first compacts and would love to hear for myself what a two compact stack will sound like! Am in the north London and Essex areas, if that helps put me on it's tour path, anyone....
Might be worth popping yourself after 'waltsdog' - seems like a sensible route from SW London - N London/Essex - Cambridge then HTH, Ian
Liked the idea of the for sale thread at first glance, but considered it a bit. What if two people show up on the day wanting the same thing having seen it advertised on the thread ? to avoid this, it may be best to either; - Arrange the sale in the usual way and exchange on the day or, - Have a for sale sign up on the day. Of course, If everyone wants to have a for sale thread, shout up and I'll do it ! Keep the ideas coming T
No worries! I'll advertise them in the regular 'For Sale' thread and if they haven't sold by the time the 'Bash comes round, I'll bring 'em with me to sell on the day. Sounds fair? Ta, Ian
-
I shall be a' comin' down ye olde A10 from Cambridge, so thanks for the heads-up BTW are we going to start a 'For Sale' thread for the 'Bash - I may have a couple of pedals up to go soon? HTH, Ian

Yeah, wasn't overly impressed with the 'I'm in a Rock Band' programme, but then it's not aimed at me, it's aimed at the great unwashed. Filled the time I guess. 'The Stones in Exile' was much better IMO - fascinating insight into the bands' ups-and-downs during the recording of 'Exiled on Main Street' - couldn't believe the hedonistic lifestyle produced such great results. Now that's Rock 'n' Roll....... Anyway, just my tuppence in the mix Ian

EBS ProLine 4x10 - but - it ain't lightweight by any stretch of the imagination (a hernia-inducing 88lbs, last time I checked). Will give your 4x8 and 1x15 a good run for it's money, and can be picked up s/h for reasonable cash. HTH, Ian
Hi Bottle, If you use the following link - http://www.cort.kr/english/products/common...product_id=74#; ...and click on the second button below the picture, you'll get the circuit diagram. It's a start. Balcro.
Top banana!!! Had a quick shuftie - looks like a standard on/on/on toggle - no worries there . Thanks Balcro! Bottle

Cool, thanks Balcro et al Been GAS'ing for a dual pickup bass like that ever since I saw the Sandbergs - this might be a serious contender. Only thing I would like to see different is the MM pickup switch changed to series-parallel (I guess that would be an easy mod though). Cool beans. Off to have a look for Cort dealers in the area, see if I can't snag one somewhere. Ta, Ian

A lot of good comments on this thread already - I feel your pain GafBass. I wear both hats in my church - I'm mostly a PA bod, but I play bass maybe two or three times a month for the morning worship service, so I know what it's like to have a mix you're unhappy with. Fortunately I've got a great guy on the desk for the most part - we swap over most weeks. Sometimes when I'm on the PA desk I can have a great morning - the musicians just gel, and the mix is easy. Other mornings are like 'Why the f*** did I bother getting outta bed?' - especially if you've got a full FoH mix plus six-way monitor mix (four IEM plus two wedge mixes) to do before 10:30 (get-in is 9:15 and we have to set up everything beforehand and strike it all at the end - sometimes I don't have time to do a complete sound-check with everyone - line check and fix it in the first song). Unfortunately, that sometimes means that bass, second guitar, sax/woodwind and drummer get left till last. The line-up of musicians changes every week - we have something like five guitarists on rota - two at a time and a mix of electric and acoustic. I'm one of two bass players. We have two completely different drummers. Several people can play keys. Don't get me started on vocals. So, the mix set up changes on a weekly basis. I/we do the best we can. I've also upped my gear now - I started out with the Line 6 Studio 110 in my siggie, when we had a smaller venue. We're now in a 250-cap school auditorium with it's own acoustic anomalies, so I've started bringing in more and more gear - the 4x10, then added the 1x15, now thinking about adding a 2x12 for the SansAmp effected output - it's a never-ending battle with the drummer . And that is just for my own monitoring - it's insane I wish there was a simple solution. HTH, Ian
