If it's in the higher price bracket, it could be the high chaparral
Boom tish! Nice one. Apparently it's not the USA model, so I'll pass on the info gathered so far with Rhys' estimate. Thanks chaps!

How do you set your volume playing live?
matski replied to John Cellario's topic in General Discussion
saves having to walk all the way back to the amp.
You stand more than 5 feet away from your amp? I run all my basses at full chat, and adjust amp volume to suit. -
Here is a pic of the bass in question. It will be sold with a TRL hard case.

I'm not exactly sure, tbh. I did (attempt to) play it once, but can't remember if it was that model. There appear to be 2 different types. I will ask and find out.

Dear fellow BCers, I'm looking for advice on how much a jet black Hamer Chaparral 12 string would be worth on the second hand market. A friend of mine has one he needs to sell, but has no idea of how much to advertise it for. I said I would help him out, but can't find much info about these basses on the internet now that Hamer is defunct. Any ballpark figures much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Fretless wanted. Will be my 1st fretless - advice appreciated
Try a Westone Thunder fretless... cheap as chips, does the job
As long as it's not a Thunder 1 - had one, was bloody diabolical: awful tone, more neck dive than a Stuka, and was harder to keep in tune than a club singer at chucking out time. However my first fretless was a Thunder 2A - which was great. I would buy this if you wanted a Pinoesque type of sound: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/221220-usa-ebmm-sterling-fretless-ebony-early-bass-with-mutes-reduced/page__p__2385696__hl__fretless__fromsearch__1#entry2385696 -
Schallers for me too. Never had a problem with them. Even the ones I've had fitted to basses since 1983.
Can't believe I just watched a Buble video!!! The bridge and pickup cover are identical to the ones on the Rockinbetter branded models, so I'd guess that's what it is.
Heh heh! It's not so bad if you have the sound turned down and somehow ignore Mr B...
-
Thanks for that. I would have thought Mr Buble could afford a real Ric for his vid though.

What brand of faker is this? It's pretty close to the real thing.
They may have changed their policy or make an exception.
No chance! Ernie Ball don't even let them export strings!

NBD: Squier JV 1st Series (pic added!) - Calling all other owners!
matski replied to Chiliwailer's topic in Bass Guitars
I've got one too - a big Fender, small Squier logoed 57 Precision. Bought it from a 'bloke down the pub' for 50 quid back in 1984. But to be honest it's been modded so much over the years, it's not really a JV anymore. I think the only original parts left are the volume pot and the body - but even that's been stripped and refinished. However I do have the original (warped and unplayable) neck stashed away in a cupboard somewhere. Still a great bass though… Sorry, that was a bit of a useless post wasn't it? -
It's pretty much accepted that humans rely on our sight more than any other sense. Our brain will override anything we hear, smell, feel, taste in favour of what we see.
Interesting. For many years I worked in the studio departments of advertising agencies, usually assisting Art Directors (in reality actually doing THEIR work for them). Many times I had the comment: "we're almost there with the layout but can you do me a favour and just move the headline/logo/image 1mm to the left/right/up/down" Usually I did nothing of the sort, just printed out the exact same layout 5 minutes later and showed it to whoever requested the change - without fail these 'revised' layouts were ALWAYS said to be much better and just right.

Cheese and 80s - first thing that sprung into my mind was The Wotsits

Mine used to be quite modest when I was about 13, but then as I got older it got larger - to the point where it was absolutely massive at around age 21. However now that I am older, it seems to have shrunk again.

Kubicki Ex-Factor replacement parts - help needed
matski replied to Kubickiboy's topic in Bass Guitars
There are 2 on eBay at the moment - a black one and a white one. They are both in the US though... -
If you use Twitter, ask the man himself: https://twitter.com/SteveGordon2 I had a good chat with him once at a gig - he's married to Skye who is Morcheeba's singer - lovely chap and very friendly. This was back in the days when Myspace was popular, I was well cheeky and basically sent Skye a message saying "I'm skint, can you put me on your guest list" and Steve sorted it out for me. Result!

Good call! It's a pity it didn't work out with Nicole Russo on vocals though.

There is no such thing.
You know, mostly straight 8s.
These type of basslines have their advantages: if you also use open strings while playing them, your fretting hand is left free to use for a multitude of other tasks. For instance: taking a quick swig of your beverage of choice, picking your nose, flicking bogeys at the drummer, scratching your nads, waving to members of the audience, fiddling with the knobs on your amp, fiddling with your own knob, adjusting your coiffure, throwing gang signs to your homies.... The list is almost endless!

I once went to a blind audition - turned out the band was some mental death core band with not one but two 'vocalists' who basically just went "grrrrrrruuuuuoooooooorrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhh" in some vague semblance of harmony. If memory serves me correctly the name of this outfit was Nun's Beaver. Out of politeness I endured an hour or so, before making my excuses and getting ready to leave. I had no problems with telling them I was not going to be joining their band

I swap basses on stage at every gig - it's no big deal. Depending on which band I'm playing with, it's because I am either playing both fretted and fretless basses, or I am using different tunings and find it easier to swap bass than start arsing around with retuning and then having to retune back again at some point. Usually when I record I use various different basses, but draw the line at taking 4 or 5 of them to gigs to exactly replicate the specific sound for each individual track. PS: once I did have 3 basses on stage as I had to collect one of them from a luthier en route to the gig. The only comment I got was from a rather fetching young lady in the audience who told me I looked 'very professional with so many guitars'.
