2. Personally I prefer a good song - simple or otherwise - to a chopfest.
3.
They already do. What about Warwick's bell brass, and how about these!
Somehow I had the feeling that you would come up something... I bow to your superior knowledge, BRX.
4. Bad news...
5.
Everything on a bass, apart from the strap locks, affects the tone, including the construction and materials.
Whenever these discussions come up we hear all about different materials used for bodies, necks, nuts, pickups, wiring, etc., etc., BUT we never hear about different materials being used for frets. Surely, as the humble fret is one of the crucial points of contact where the energy of the vibrating string is being directly transferred to the body of the instrument, there should be more scientific analysis in the field of frets. I say we should be given a choice! When will manufacturers realise this and start producing brass, bone, carbon fibre, aluminium, solid gold, and composite resin frets? Eh? Eh?
6. I had a Carlsbro Cobra combo when I was about 15. It was crap. The second worst amp I've had was some Acoustic thing: small rack-mountable head and a 2x15 cab with power amp built-in. It didn't sound very good and the power amp in the cab spontaneously combusted during rehearsal! Still, beats having to buy pyrotechics or a smoke machine I suppose....
7. Hello. I have a Status Vintage P bass, and it's great! Really well made instrument, with a lovely sound. Mine is the single humbucker model. As it has both active and passive circuitry you can go from a super warm bassy tone all the way through to quite a bright hi-fi tone. The F hole doesn't really add anything much - I guess the cavity in the body behind the hole just saves a bit of weight. The graphite neck is standard P bass width, but has a quite shallow back - quite like the Fender Precision 57 reissue. I can't comment on the price or waiting time as I bought mine second-hand - don't even know how much one would cost new or how long it would take to deliver. I think BCer Happy Jack has the PJ model - so if you want info about that version maybe give him a shout?
8. *raises hand* I write music, but don't do lyrics. Typically I will write a whole 'song' but I leave it up to vocalists to provide input and write the lyrics.
9. Nick Fyffe: ex-Jamiroquai. Some of his basslines are easily up there with Staurt Zender's and Paul Turner's.
10.
I like to think of Sir Thomas Beecham as more than just 'Orchestra conductor'.... He just came up with so many funny, funny quotes. One of the best for silver tongued acid humour. Garry
I could only remember the quote, not who actually said it...
11. Lovely fretless!! Purely for sale, or would you be interested in trades...?
12.
And I'd love to try Ernie ball's and GHS too.
Witaj! This is a good website for strings: http://bassworld.pl
13. Strange... I have a SR5 that has had the same set of DR FatBeams on it for 3 years, and every time I play it I think "Ooh, a bit too much zing".
14. Orchestra conductor to cellist: "Madam you have something between your legs capable of bringing joy to thousands, but you just sit there scratching away at it!" [sub]this may be apocryphal[/sub]

NBD! :)

Rickenbacker haters look away now! Here's my new addition to the fold - a VERY black 4003S with toaster and horseshoe pickups. Me like! PS: I'd also like to add that dealing with BC member AlanFitz_75 was completely hassle-free!
16.
Not one, but 3 TL sigs then. The Sabre is the interesting one though. Of course to be TL correct the Sabre should be Black and fretless (carbon fibre neck too I think, or am I wrong in my anorakness?).
The power of the anorak is strong in you.... In fact to be completely historically correct, it should be a reissue of a fretless Cutlass II.
17. There's also the Status Vintage P...
18.
I've never seen an old instrument with corroded metal parts. Chrome plating tends to hold up... Gibson gold plating not so much.
All 3 of my MusicMan basses have lost the shine on the machine heads...
19. To the OP: I wouldn't worry too much - the only people who are going to be aware that you have a 'fancy' bass are going to be in the minority (a percentage of other bass players). The last time I used the fanciest of my basses - the Music Man Cutlass 1 - was in a Polish shopping centre on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon. You can't get much more of a mundane (or non-fancy) setting that that!
20.
[pedant]Actually it's another term for emigrant.[/pedant]
In Holland they just call you an 'alien'
21. Have a free bump from a fellow Cutlass I owner
22.
The web has made things easier and quicker, but before that there was Loot, Exchange and Mart and the Melody Maker classifieds.
Not to mention musical instrument shops...
23. I used to own an old Astra van and load it all up with my bass gear, which at the time included an 8x10 cab. I had a bass in a flight case laying on top of the cab lengthwise and braked heavily - which led to a flight case/back of the head interface situation. Not recommended.
24.
Fretless basses full stop, if the current output of the major manufacturers is anything to go by.
I have a fretless Status - does the double negative coolness-factor make it actually cool..? I also have a Status that doesn't look like a 'typical' Status, does the fact that it has a Status logo make it uncool? PS: I am not a King fan and do not slap.
25. "Asked why he had never played a Precision bass, McCartney once said in an interview that he had thought about it, but had considered himself "too much of an amateur" for such a professional instrument and found that the Precision bass was out of his price range!"
