1. Voila!
2. Luckily he's on the other side of the Atlantic
3.
To me he's not the new guitarists but just trying to be another John.
People were saying the same thing about John when he was drafted in after Hillel Slovak died....
4. I've had the same problem with Ampeg grilles - firstly on the 8x10 cab and then on the 1x15 and 4x10 that I currently own. In the end I just screwed them in - job done!
5.
my first bass, warm tone. got superseded by a P bass as needed more punch in the band I was in. - tried finding out where it went, passed around basschat for a while then 5 owners later traded part exchange into a shop and they think it went overseas. Top top top quality bass, great neck. Oh well, sold it for a warwick streamer. The other one I've kinda been offered is natural with a tort scratch plate like this.... it's cheap for what it is.... but a good buy for me?? (ps if anyone else is interested PM me)
Something strange going on with this bass if you ask me... What's with the string spacing at the nut? That knob situation looks a bit iffy too.
6. I use an M-Audio NRV10. It does all the things you want it to, plus it has the advantage of being an audio interface which can be connected to a computer via FireWire.
7.
And the gap around the 12th fret?
Roughly 2.25 to 2.5mm - but I'm just eyeballing it using a ruler, so don't quote me on that!
8.
Can you achieve low action on it? That is, action low enough where you can't slide a 1 quid coin between the frets and the strings without making contact?
Ermmm, I don't know how thick a £1 coin is, to be honest - I left the UK in '96 and don't have any laying around - but the gap between the top of the last fret and the string is around 3mm. I'm not a fan of super low action anyways, so it suits me. BTW is that 600 number you mentioned an official figure for how many Cutlasses were made? I always wondered how many there were out there...
9. Hello! I have a Cutlass 1 too. I bought mine from the Bass Centre in Wapping in 1991 - just walked in there one day, saw it hanging on the wall and had to have it. Mine's black and it's a 1983 model - so not strung through the body and with a 4-bolt neck. Years ago I remember talking to a guy from Strings & Things - UK distributor for MM gear - and he told me that 12 Cutlasses were only ever imported to the UK. The only other guy I've met who has owned one was Paul Raven of Killing Joke - he played mine and asked if I wanted to sell it to him as mine was in much better condition than his. The answer was a resounding "NO!"
10. The basses I use most frequently for gigs are both from '79 - the StingRay and the Precision - and I have never ever had any problems with either of them. In fact, apart from the occasional broken string, I've never had any problems with a bass at a gig. Have I just doomed myself....?
11. How about this one? It's a quality bass! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/159514-aria-pro-ii-sb600-1985-blacknatural-l225/page__p__1555209__hl__aria__fromsearch__1#entry1555209 I'm not selling it BTW or have any reason to plug it, other than the fact that I bought a very similar bass back in 1983 and still have it. I part-exchanged my Westone Thunder 2A fretless to buy it...

13. See my sig...
14.
. I've owned various P basses in my time, a US 78, a 70s CIJ and a 51 and found them all missing something in a live situation. BUT at the studio I played a mexican 50s P and I loved it.
One man's meat etc., etc., - for recording I prefer my Jap 57 reissue, but for gigs prefer the US 79... Funny old world, innit?
15. Don't listen to the naysayers! I have been a long time Stingray & P bass type too and took to the Rickenbacker like a duck to the proverbial. "Why oh why is there no Ric in your sig?" I hear you cry - cos I had to sell it when I was skint. If ever a 4001 V63 comes up for sale when I have some cash at hand, it will be the next bass I own! I have PMed you with info you might find useful...
16. I was at college with Paul Hartnoll of Orbital. My sister was at school with Grog Prebble of Die So Fluid. That is all...
17. HOLY sh*t!!!! BigRedX advises someone to buy not just a 'traditional' bass, but a Fender!!! Will wonders never cease?
18. I have one - but it's been so heavily modified over the years that it doesn't count as a JV any more The only original parts left are the body (which has been refinished) and the volume pot!
19.
"menu's"
menus
20.
As a designer myself, it's easy to overlook very simple things
The golden rule for proofreading is: "always get someone else to check your artwork" - as it is difficult to spot your own errors.
21. I have a Fender Precision '57 reissue - a Japanese one - and it ticks all your boxes: light (about 8lbs), lovely neck (quite a flat rear profile - not big and chunky), and it definitely does the fat vintage warm tone thang.
22. I know what you mean - I do the same thing all the time.
Half the trouble with bass is knowing what position you played it in in the first place..
Yep, your fretting hand falls into place, and you have an "Aha!" moment.
23. Must have been a nightmare doing the casting...
24. You should also try asking in the 'Items Wanted' section of the board too. I did last year as I wanted a replacement maple neck for a Fender Precision 57 reissue - specifically that model - and the same day got a response which led to me buying the neck. I think I ended up paying £90 for it. Basschat is your friend.
25. You only need one choice: black.
