1. Wouldn't it be easier to get a checkerboard pattern printed on some sticky backed plastic and apply that to your bass? Plus, if you wanted to sell the bass later, you can remove the plastic film...
2. Found a local buyer so this fine bass is now SOLD. Thanks to all those who showed interest!
3. Basically I'm looking to tweak my '57 RI P bass by fitting an active circuit. I'd like something that involves the minimum of electronics knowhow (as I have none) and doesn't require any woodworking skills (same again) - so preferably something that just drops in place simply in a typical 2 knob P bass configuration and is also easily removed to return the bass to stock configuration if desired. I'd also like to retain the original tone characteristics of the bass, so ideally something that allows me to switch between active and passive. Following a quick scan through previous threads, I'm seeing a lot of positivity about the John East P-Retro set-up. Is this the best option? Any other recommended alternatives? Any words or wisdom gratefully received.
4. Tentative local sale is agreed but not yet set in stone - so this could be the last chance for any lurking BCers to grab themselves a real beaut of a Rickenbacker. Going once. Anyone.....?
5.
what tuning system is the kubicki using? adam
All Kubicki ExFactors have the same tuning/bridge system, custom made by Kubicki. The advantage it has over some headless basses is that it is designed to use regular strings (ie: not double ball-end). I have one currently strung with Ernie Ball Slinkys. Basically you string them in reverse: the ball end of the string sits in a small cavity above the nut and the other end of the string sits in a hole on a rotating cog wheel on the bridge end. The cogs are ratcheted, you first tighten them as much as possible by hand and then rotate the tuning knobs to bring them up to the correct pitch. It sounds complicated but is easy to do. The action and intonation are also very easy to adjust.
6.
She's also probably has had her mates and parents blow smoke up her arse
Kinky! Is that a French thing?
7. Simple answer: yes, Pete.
8. Old Skool headlessness... Fretless Status S2000 5 string: Kubicki ExFactor: I reckon BigRedX has us all beat for sheer outlandishness though!
9.
There is a thread by me on here all about how to make some
Can't be that hard surely? Just find the sharpest edged metal known to man, cut it to shape, drill a hole in it and bend it to fit, and VOILA instant thumb-slicing fun!
10. There's another C64S for sale on Ebay UK for £2500 - compared to that, mine's a bargain!
11. You could always try cutting up an old mousemat and sticking pieces on with double-sided tape.
12. Nope, not just PCs. I'm on a Mac and a MacBook Pro and still have the same problem.
13. Alas not just PCs as I'm still having this issue on both my trusty old G5 and MacBook Pro.
14. I'm still having to log-in pretty frequently...
15. Oops! Well spotted that man I've asked the mods to kill the other listing to avoid any confusion.
16. Up for grabs is my mapleglo Rickenbacker C64S - the Paul McCartney model. This is not your standard Rickenbacker 4001 - it's in the same league as the Chris Squire limited edition and the V63 - and has the vintage 'toaster' and 'horseshoe' pickups and reverse headstock. The C64S is no longer in production, making it a sought after model. Here is the blurb from the Rickenbacker website: Since the time he obtained his Bass in 1965, Paul McCartney’s original Rickenbacker 4001S bass (actually made in 1964) has “evolved” through Numerous modifications. Using the 4001C64 starting point, the 4001C64S fast forwards to incorporate these changes to replicate his Bass as it finally exists today. Most evident is the reshaped body, zero-fret Fingerboard, pickup type, and tailpiece detail. A satin sealer-only finish helps protect The natural Maple body and neck, as well as the Rosewood fingerboard. Full specs can be found here: www.rickenbacker.com/model.asp?model=4001C64S The bass is in really excellent condition - the only marks on it are small scratches on the upper edge of the body above the treble pickup which are only visible at certain angles and impossible to photograph. I've never gigged with it, it's been strictly home-use only. It comes with a standard Rickenbacker hard case. I'm looking for £2000 for it, which is as near as dammit half the price of a new one as quoted on the Thomann website: www.thomann.de/gb/rickenbacker_4001_c64_mg.htm If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Cheers!
17. Mine has it under the 'Precision Bass' text too - but although mine has an S8xxxx serial number it's actually a '79er as the pots are dated 1979 .
18.
Tony Goggle and his 12 finger tapping adaptation of Rick James' 'Super Freak', on his debut solo album.
Blimey, there's dedication for you - having an extra 2 fingers grafted on just for bassplaying purposes!
19. *holds up hand* Bands come and go, but bass gear is forever.
20. First bass: Hondo Rickenfaker Go to bass (at the moment): Status S2000 fretless My sound bass: 79 StingRay
21. All these old tarts on here moaning about old Fender P basses "Ooh it's over 8lbs, me poor old back can't handle it" and it turns out that the banjo is heavier! Who'd a thought it, eh?
22. It was the same old 'let's start a band!' chat with some mates at school that got me started. One bloke wanted to play guitar, another wanted to play the drums, so I picked the bass. I convinced my dad it was a brilliant idea for him to buy me a cheapo bass to learn on (Hondo Rickenfaker) - funnily enough the other 2 blokes are still yet to get their instruments sorted and get together for a jam (after 30 years.....)
23. Maybe it shrunk a little when it was in the oven being roasted...
24.
I see he lost the rubbish bridge and rearranged the pickups when he got his custom there. Good call.
Notice that he has the much derided pickup cover too - even though it's not actually covering a pickup but sits between the rear two. I bet Rickenbacker weren't impressed with the "Rickenbastard" truss rod cover though...
25. I'm putting my trusty old P bass up for sale. It's an all original, unmodified 1979 USA Fender Precision in the iconic black body, black scratchplate, maple neck configuration as championed by the likes of Bruce Foxton, JJ Burnel, etc etc back in the day. Oh yeah, and that Waters bloke from Pink Floyd... It has an S8 serial number but the pot codes date it to 1979. There are absolutely no issues with this bass - the neck is straight, the frets are in great condition, all the electrics work as they should, and there is no rattle or hum. The weight is 5kg (according to our kitchen scales). It has its original chrome bridge cover, thumbrest, and straplocks - the only part that has got lost over the years is the chrome pickup cover. Also included in the sale is the original Fender hard case which although a bit scuffed up on the outside is still fully functional. There are a few small dings on the body and a couple of patches where the chrome of the bridge cover has 'fused' to the paint of the bodywork, but nothing that affects playability. Likewise there is a bit of 'wedding ring wear' and a small chip out of the varnish at the 12th fret (see pic) - but once again nothing that affects playability. Basically it's in great shape for a 32 year old I'm an Englishman abroad - based in Warsaw, Poland - so unfortunately can't invite prospective buyers round for a test-run, a chat, and a cup of tea, but am only willing to ship this bass with a reputable, insurable courier company such as DHL or UPS. Price: £1300 Sorry, no trades. Any questions, feel free to PM. Cheers! *edited for price drop*
