Yep, I concur! I put a pair of Fatbeams on my Stingray 5 and haven't changed them since 2009...

Hi guys, fretless was an option for the Cutlass back in the day. I remember some bloke in Finland or somewhere had one with an unmarked fretless neck and I also found this old listing which shows the unmarked neck too. https://reverb.com/item/1538845-music-man-cutlass-1977-fretless Obviously the '1977' is a mistake though.

Let's list all the vintage/used bass shops!
matski replied to ZilchWoolham's topic in General Discussion
If you're ever in the Nijmegen area of Holland, I'd recommend Paul's Bass Matters: https://bassmatters.nl/en/home Generally, he sells new stuff but does have the odd vintage treasure every now and then. For instance, he has a 1961 Fender Jazz in stock at the mo. -
I have done that in the past. If I remember correctly I just used my old Sony Walkman plugged into my mixer - which is connected via USB to my Mac - and then used Logic to record my old tracks in realtime just as you would an instrument. I'm sure someone else here will be able to come up with a better option though...

I did a similar thing a while back: recovered my old JV from a guy who had borrowed it for 20 years... It was in a dreadful condition, so I stripped mine down back to wood and found it had a lovely grain pattern so had it refinished in transparent black. I also put a new black scratch plate and proper Fender knobs on it. The neck was twisted and had been badly refretted too, so I sourced a Japanese P57 neck from on here and use that instead.

A guitarist is auditioned and can't take a "no thanks"
matski replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
Once upon a time when I was living in Amsterdam, a drummer friend of mine invited to go and play with him and a guitarist he had met with a view to starting up a new band - the guy could play well enough, but he had this unnerving habit of psychotically staring at me directly in the eyes when he was playing solos. I dismissed it at first, but after a while it was really starting to freak me out. Afterwards, my drummer pal mentioned that maybe it wouldn't be such a good idea to play with that guy again as he 'looked like he wanted to kill you!'. -

If you're looking for the original 'grumpy' Precision sound, how about these? https://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_vintage_pbass_pickup.htm
Came across this - will this give a good aggressive P tone?
I'm sure that would be good if ever you needed some sub bass.... I'll get me coat.

Fellow Basschatters, I am reluctantly putting my Status Graphite S2000 fretless 5 string bass up for sale. It really is quite a lovely thing, but it's not getting the use it deserves. It's actually quite a rare bass, as some have said that Status never actually produced a 5 string version of the S2000, however I have attached a pic of a specsheet for the S2000 range and it does mention a 5 string version. I did once contact Status and enquire and the reply from Rob was "maybe it's an early Stealth?" which was quite vague really. The colour of the bass is transparent green over the graphite weave, the body is a hardwood composite with carbon fibre overlaid, the neck is obviously graphite, the pickups are Status Hyperactive high-resolution and it is switchable between active and passive settings. Warning: due to the 18v active circuitry this bass is extremely loud! Usually I run it in passive mode with the volume rolled right back, to be honest. The fretboard is lined phenolic resin, and I have been reliably informed that it would be no problem to have it regretted if desired. Weightwise, it comes in at bang on 4kg, or if you prefer, 8lbs 13oz. It comes with the original Status flight case - unfortunately, as is common with these, the foam inside the case is beginning to biodegrade somewhat so would need replacing at some point. I would give it an 8.5 out of 10 for condition - there are a couple of small dings and some minor surface scratches on the back of the bass - nothing that affects playability in the slightest. I have attached pics so that you see what I mean. The bass is located (as am I) in Warsaw, Poland. International shipping is absolutely no problem for me - I have sold a couple of basses on BC before and shipped them to England and the buyers were most impressed with my OCD approach to packaging and safeguarding the basses. No trades I'm afraid, sale only. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks for looking. PS: Forgot to mention I have a spare set of Status double ball end strings that I will throw in too.

I'm a fan of Rickenbackers, but this is just hideous!

Just buy Ampeg gear but don't bother with any form of cases - you will have a roadworn bass rig after having loaded it in and out of your car a few times, guaranteed!

I once sold a bass amp to Paul Hartnoll from Orbital's then girlfriend.
